My DH is currently struggling with mobility after a fall so isns't currently driving. He is having physio and there is some improvement. His main issue is the lack of power in his "clutch" foot. However we have two cars and one is a doddle to push the clutch in, while the other is SOOO heavy that everyone hates it. His reflexes are fine, his eyesight regularly tested so there really isn't a reason for him not to drive. Yes, he is more cautious that many drivers - but he always has been. I used to joke that he wasn't "make due progress" but I suppose he was safe. He has never really enjoyed driving, sees it as a necessity. He was certainly never a boy racer!
You can get all kinds of adaptations for cars nowadays which we might look into so perhaps someone like my DH could do with an extended clutch pedal or an automatic car.
Fortunately I both love driving and have no disabilities - yet!
He has done it! The toolmakers son has resigned!
