I thought it was awful the way Catherine and her three children were booed by anti-monarchists when in the open carriage at the Trooping of the Colour. Be as against a Monarchy as you like but you don't boo innocent children who have no control over which family they're born into. And the same applies to Harry and Meghan and their children if they appear in public on the visit.

Harry's visit for the Invictus planning seems to be required but a visit by his wife with their children to see an ailing king who they have royally rubbished via books and netflix is totally disingenuous. They are looking for publicity.

As a non-royalist I think I look objectively at what's happened and appeared in the global press. The children are being used as emotional blackmail. The parents caused the estrangement. If they want to build bridges they need to eat humble pie and not voice demands.

They did not think things through. 'Escaping' from the Royal family and thinking they were going to be a success when neither of them are particularly trained or experienced in any area.(other than Meghan having been a mildly successful actor).
Harry's only experience is in being a pampered, protected, spoilt royal person..
Ridiculous, but endlessly entertaining and distracting, especially during such difficult times politically.

I’m simply making a point, I often read tabloid “gossip” but tend to dismiss most of it.

I laugh a bit when I read those up in arms about Meghan and how “she was welcomed her with open arms”. It wasn’t quite like that, I can recall our press comparing her on many occasions, very unfavourably, with the British born Catherine.

I think it was a marriage doomed from the start, Harry was besotted with her and Meghan had a Californian actress type of attitude and confidence we Brits don’t welcome. An ill-matched liaison. Quite a sad situation which could have been handled better by both sides and the running off to Canada, then Californian did nothing at all to help matters.

I notice in the few photos released of their children that they seem to live quite an idyllic life, large outdoor areas, lovely weather, bare feet, dogs, chickens. What young children wouldn’t love that life.

How could you possibly say that Harry is not trained or experienced in any area?
How could you say his only experience is in being a pampered, protected, spoilt royal person? Do you feel that his decade in military service working on the front lines of Afghanistan have no merit? Working as an Air Traffic Controller and a Gunner of an Apache helicopter is non-experience? Being the founder of an organization for wounded warriers is not honorable?

I am thankful his kids get to see their grandfather and Im sure the King will be happy too.

Well said, not to mention the support Harry gave in droves to injured veterans, even joining them twice, not the entire time, on fundraising in the Artic.

I doubt Harry would have achieved any of that had he not been Royal. Basically, he has no transferable skills.
He is not the sole founder of Invictus, moe like its front man.

If that's what it took to recover his mental health, so be it but I think it's made it worse.

I think he was allowed in as an officer cadet with below the required qualifications - I seem to remember a bit of a saga about it at the time involving the sacking of a teacher at his school?

I'm sure he faced the same physical dangers as other soldiers, ate the same rations etc

I know entire media blackouts were constructed for him and his postings were changed to balance his desire to be with his fellow soldiers with the risks involved and keeping him safe.

Presumably him being there would make his whole regiment more vulnerable.

I also think there was some dubious manoevering when he was accepted to train to fly Apache helicopters...

I don't really care (and honestly don't know a whole lot) - but I'm sure he was given special treatment.

I did not know that he was given royal treatment while fighting for the British army. I believe the military does give a person business skills but thats just my opinion.

Looks to me that he is doing a decent job of recovering from mental anguish and drug use therapy, seems to care about his wife and family, but i dont know him at all - just what i see in the news.

I think he’s an emotional mess and should have married someone entirely different. Doesn’t make either of them “bad” people.

I’d argue as well that anyone who has had the education he enjoyed and his 10 years in the military have given him plenty of “transferable” skills, which he should have used rather than whatever is it they both bumble around doing!

I utterly agree! That whole saga was utterly awful, he could have paid for private (very private) therapy and recovered that way.

Still if people (general public) hadn’t bought his book and watched his interviews …. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I am sure the proposed visit by the children to a, to me, unimportant event ‘ One year till Invictus’ is simply a ruse to force Charles’s hand towards a public reconciliation of some sort. If he doesn’t play ball, they’ll be hoping his credentials as grandfather will be damaged, and the Sussex supporters ( a dwindling number, maybe?) will be decrying him for ignoring his grandchildren.
Now I am no fan of the pair, Meghan in particular, but I would like to ask all those quoting their ‘bile’ or ‘vitriol’ towards the royals to share some examples. Of course they were critical of the institution, and said things like there were ‘ concerns about how dark the baby’s skin would be’, as well as giving ‘varying recollections’ of Meghan not being allowed out or having her passport taken away, but I don’t recall bile or vitriol.
I think the plan was half of the time carrying out royal duties, then flogging Meghan’s outfits online, or sharing the recipes from state banquets in a TV show, but Queen Elizabeth quite rightly scotched that idea, and the American dream isn’t going to plan, so UK involvement is looking more and more necessary.

Exactly. Anybody who thinks that he came up with this all by himself is deluded. He’d left the army. He was cavorting naked in Las Vegas (as seen in The Sun), he was drinking and drug taking. He’d been throwing women into a swimming pool at the home of the Duke of Worcester and only stopped when his butler intervened. It is said he was conveniently off base when other soldiers were taking compulsory random drug tests. His art teacher did his A level coursework for him.
And yet, people somehow believe he had the intelligence and personal qualities to start the Invictus Games. It’s all a myth, dreamed up by the palace to change people’s perceptions of him. I wonder how they feel about that now.
Meghan, while awful, is not solely responsible for how he has turned out in recent years. He was always like it but cleverly covered up by the hated men in grey suits as he calls them.
