I have no where to be today and nothing major to do so could have a lie in and listen to my audio book but I feel guilty if i do. What time do you normally get up each day or do you feel guilty lying in bed.🤔

My sleep pattern is not the norm. I suffer with insomnia. So I might be awake until 5 or 6 in the morning. I then go to bed, hopefully to sleep. So lie ins for me don't exist. I sleep when I want/ can. In fact I'm probably going up soon for a nap

Surely though, unless you have to be up for an appointment etc., why on earth wouldn't you lie in!

Ooh no never, I never lie in and don`t want to, I love my days and am always ready for whatever. I rise early and go to bed early, love my bed but love the prospect of another day too

Nowadays I have a lie in any time I feel like it. I don’t sleep well, so it’s not unknown for me to be tossing and turning for much of the night, but then to go into a deep sleep at 5 or 6, and wake at 9 or even later.
I never feel remotely guilty about it.

Wake up around 5ish for our dog, but then go back to bed with my Kindle.
If I fall asleep again, why not?
The alarm is set for 7.45. That’s a lie in from my 6am working life. Don’t feel guilty travelsafar, just enjoy.

I never feel guilty!

JamesandJon33 Mon 15-Jun-26 12:11:38

I never have a lie in. Never ever did

henetha Mon 15-Jun-26 12:23:43

I don't get up until nearly 8 am, my alarm goes off at 7.50.
But I definitely feel guilty if I don't get up immediately, so never lie in. I aim every day to be drinking a cup of tea by 8.

No guilt here - I lie in till I feel ready to come down - and that could be anytime from 9.30am - 10.30

dragonfly46 Mon 15-Jun-26 12:25:17

I wake up at 7 every morning, make a cup of tea and bring it back to bed. When I hear DH getting up I go for my shower. It is all very leisurely.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 15-Jun-26 12:38:58

Absolutely no guilt at all.
This morning I didn’t wake up ( for the second time) until 11am.
The first time was 4ish and then I didn’t go back until probably 8 after having my Actimel and a cup of tea.
I am less than a month from being 89 and my time is mostly my own, it is very liberating.

If I sleep late I am delighted. I wake several times in the night, and sometimes need to catch up. As others have said, I had an early start on weekdays for years, so why would I feel guilty now that I don't have to get up? Apart from anything else, who would know and why would they care?

Snap. No guilt. If I have something I want or need to do I'll set my alarm, or sometimes get up early becuase the night was disturbed and I'd like to sit and listen to a dawn chorus

One of the treats of being retired, and not having atm caring responsibilities, which of course makes things very difficult for some on GN to have a decent sleep:

Is to stay up late listening to some music or finishing a film or maybe getting a wash ready to put out when I get up. Atm I need a slow start to the day and am glad to be fortunate enough to do it.

I love a lie in, especially in the cold winter months and never feel guilty.

pably15 Mon 15-Jun-26 13:44:06

I only set the alarm if I or OH have somewhere to be , otherwise I get up around 9 or 10 am, during my working life I had to be up around 6 am ,so now that I'm in my 80's I certainly don't feel guilty when I have a lie in...so enjoy your lie in Travelsafar...ditch the guilt..

LauraNorderr Mon 15-Jun-26 13:54:18

No guilt here. I get up when I feel like getting up, usually between 8 and 9, unless I have somewhere to be at an earlier time.
I’m known to be grumpy if I’m forced to get up too early.

hollysteers Mon 15-Jun-26 13:56:04

I don’t feel guilty as I’m not a morning person and never have been, even after a good night’s sleep.
Also my life in the theatre got me into the habit of late nights and morning recoveries.

AmberGran Mon 15-Jun-26 13:57:04

I retired a few years ago, having spent most of my life getting up a 5 am, and it's only the last year or so I've started having a lie in occasionally. Not because I felt guilty about it, it just wasn't something that ever occurred to me to do as there was always something to get me up and about.

I'm usually awake by 5 am now, but might have a couple of hours reading my book with a cup of coffee wrapped up in the warm if there is nothing planned for the day. No guilt at all. I probably would feel guilty if I started doing it a lot and it got in the way of things I know need doing though.

Norah Mon 15-Jun-26 14:00:58

No guilt.

Dogs do need walking, we wake up early, out we wander.

SpinDriftCoastal Mon 15-Jun-26 14:08:23

Up about 7 but don't get going till 9.

paddyann54 Mon 15-Jun-26 15:02:33

No,we’re night owls rarely in bed before 2 am so are happy to lie and chat and cuddle until 10am or longer if the mood takes us.We both worked full time from age 15 ran our own businesses since we got married at 20 and 21 so long lies now are nothing to feel guilty about

LOUISA1523 Mon 15-Jun-26 17:54:44

I love a lie in ....I'm up at 7 if I'm in work .....I'm up at 7 if I take GC to school....sometimes on a Saturday if I'm doing nothing til the evening I stay in bed until 2ish ....love it!

Patsy70 Mon 15-Jun-26 18:44:04

Good heavens no! Why should I? I’m 79 fgs.
Incidentally a lie in for me would be getting up at 9 am.

GrannyIvy Mon 15-Jun-26 21:10:58

I usually get up between 8 & 9 but feel guilty I am so much later than I used to be !!! I also feel guilty if I am not busy doing something all day. I an 70 and retired so why? But …..

Bellanonna Mon 15-Jun-26 22:19:26

Not sure what there is to feel guilty about. I get up when I’m ready to, I’m in my mid eighties and unless I have something to do, when I would put the alarm on, I get up as and when, although that’s not usually very late as I get pains in my shoulders and legs which disappear once I’m up thank goodness.

CocoPops Mon 15-Jun-26 23:03:10

Q."Do you feel guilty for having a lie in?"
Well, I suppose it depends on who I am having a lie in with grin
