I missed it in the morning but it was shown in the evening on BBC2 so I sat and enjoyed every minute of it.
I’m not ashamed to be a supporter of the monarchy, I love tradition and no one does ceremonial like the British, plus how can you not admire the skill of these soldiers playing their instruments on horseback or whilst marching in complicated formation?
It was beautifully done, as always, I’m glad the sun shone and I thought Camilla looked great, for what it’s worth.

Trooping the Colour
(48 Posts)Maybe I am an unashamed Royalist but I love this. I love the music, I love the spectacle, the precision marching and I love the horses!
I remember vividly the year I was pregnant with DD3 and we were staying with my in-laws, the year someone took a potshot at the Queen. Her unflappability and horsemanship were unforgettable as was her lovely calm black mare Burmese.
I believe Queen Camilla is hon Col in chief of the Grenadier Guards but that pantomime ‘uniform’ today does her no favours. I thought it looked like something out of a theatrical costumiers in contrast with the Princess of Wales looking elegant as usual.
Just nit- picking I know!
But we do do ceremonial well, don’t we!
Well the RF are supported by the taxpayer , no? Yes I know they have loads of private dosh as well accumulated over the centuries from eliminating opponents and seizing land etc but essentially this is a showcase event that rings a bit hollow when you look at cuts to our military spending.
(Catherine is the princess of Wales? As I said, not a royalist, watch for the horses and the red arrows 😁)
I’m not a royalist, either. Was pleased to see the Princess of Wales looking so well, though.
IMO it’s good idea for the King to pay for, to keep up tradition and to provide entertainment and enjoyment for so many people with the trooping of the colour.
Not just those there in person, but the millions more watching on the media.
I love seeing all the beautiful horses. I did miss it so hope it’s on catchup.

I’m aware of that. The money used could be put into the Defence Budget pot to enhance it.
Why would the King pay into the defence budget? The RF pay for most of the Trooping of the Colour costs themselves as it's not a State event. The Ministry of Defence pay the wages of the military personnel that participate, but it's not an extra cost as the military are paid 24/7 whatever they're doing.

Trooping the colour is a ceremonial event and funded by Buckingham Palace, Duchy of Lancaster and Sovereign grant.
It doesn’t come out of the defence budget.

One incidental thing I noticed today is that there is clearly a busby hierarchy. The important people wear bigger, fluffier ones - which must be a mixed blessing.
I dipped in and out of it and thought everyone on the balcony was dressed appropriately, it was not a fashion parade but respectful.
I love all such displays by our troops and well done the royal family, particularly those getting on in years.
I hope all the people who harp on about British values were watching. I loved seeing the flags along the Mall celebrating a special occasion. That doesn't mean I want to see sad dishcloths hung from every lamppost. The horses and the troops were wonderful and would not have been improved by men draped in flags or wearing pretend Templar armour.
Oh dear every photo I now see of Camilla today I can only see a washing up mop on her hat.
I do like Camilla and I usually really like what she wears. She looked lovely at the Phillips' wedding.
The Trooping of the Colour is an exercise for the Armed Forces and I believe they take great pride in it.
Discipline, timing, exercise, team work, presentation and a chance to show off their skills: musical, horsemanship, presentation.
I still have DH’s Mess Dress jacket and trousers. It’s lovely. A beautiful bit of tailoring. I will get rid of it one day but for now it reminds me of happier times.

Did you see the Duke of Kent filming on his mobile phone and George suppressing a sneeze during the National Anthem?
I didn't catch the Duke of Kent🤔 but did see the Gloucesters on the Balcony.
They were there by invitation, presumably, but I feel more could have been done by the others to involve and integrate them into the celebrations, rather than being stuck on the end,
à deux. Especially as they are Seniors - in age at least.
That includes you too, BBC!

I thought Camilla looked terrific. As she is Colonel in Chief of the Grenadier Guards and it was they whose colour was being trooped, she obviously had to wear their uniform. It would have been extremely impolite not to do so. The whole parade was absolutely brilliant. At least we still have something to be proud of. Nothing much else, but something!
The point is she wasn’t wearing their uniform which would have been properly tailored and would have sported whatever decorations she is entitled to.( I think it would have looked a whole lot better.)
She wore a a red silk crepe Grenadier Guards ‘uniform dress’ by Fiona Clare, one of her go-to couturiers. She completed the look with a black Philip Treacy beret with white plume and cap badge.
Women’s Mess Dress for the Grenadier Guards serves as the formal evening equivalent to "black tie". It typically features a striking scarlet melton wool jacket with a royal blue shawl collar, blue facings, distinctive rows of gold/gilt piping, and the regiment’s iconic Grenade insignia on the lapels
This was neither uniform nor Mess Dress and the latter would anyway have been totally inappropriate when uniform is being worn.
I think Charlotte looks beautifully dressed for her age and for the occasion.
Am quite sure she has ripped jeans and teeshirts for less formal moments.
And her hair always perfectly styled and brushed.
The bits I have managed to see I thought everyone was dressed appropriately for the occasion.
I adore the pomp, ceremony and tradition.
Pleased the sun shone for them, not too hot, just right.
Well done to the military and horses 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I loved it! Princess Charlottes dress was perfectly ok for such a prestigious occasion - she is a Princess for goodness sake!!!!

And no, I didn’t like the Queen’s outfit either, I’m afraid.
The money wasted on this nonsense could go to funding our armed forces
Have you any idea how much money the ToC brings in? In tv rights, ticket sales, tourism etc. But this is not just an event put on for tourists. It has a purpose for the Regiments that goes back centuries - to make sure every soldier could see and identify their colours in battle, and they still need to see and revere their colours now. It’s not about uniforms and spectacle. They would parade in their underpants if necessary (perhaps not Vern Stokes though - you have to draw the line somewhere!).

I’ve been out all day so I’ll watch the highlights later.
I love it..
