I have just seen on the News that Trump has had erected a cage surrounded by seats for a Cage Fighting event to celebrate his 80th Birthday and their 250th Independence Day.😳

I’ll be 80 in September and our son is taking the Family to the Aquarium in Brighton near his home to celebrate.

Any other GNetters 80 this year ?

MissAdventure

So, will we get to see the celebrations?
I'll have to have a look if we do.

... I'd like to see the flotilla of tall ships, and the events around the Smithsonian Festival...

you?

Will they be pig shaped Casdon?

Trump apparently wanted this benighted 'Peace Deal' over the stupid war he started, signed and wrapped today, his birthday, as a marvellous piece of self-publicity.

Doesn't look like it's going to happen though - Netanyahoo has been naughty and deliberately disobeyed Trump and is carrying on as per usual.

Trump and Melania will just have to seek consolation watching some cultured and sophisticated Cage Fighting.

I thought maybe baby blimps Jaxjacky, the nappy does look a bit like cage fighter shorts?

Here are all the other things I need to celebrate today before I can pay attention to that man.

Wrong link.

These are the things I need to celebrate first. Who wants to join me? It can be an adventure. wink

Of course this 250th anniversary is about so much more than the ego and whims of Trump though he might well attempt to make it very much 'about him' one way or another.

Because our histories are so intertwined, there are events and exhibitions etc taking place here in the UK too.

Dickens
I'd just like to see the whole spectacle of it, and watch Trumpty Dumpty revelling in it all.
He is such a ridiculous caricature of a human.

imaround Janis Ian, At Seventeen. I just had to go to listen to her again, I last saw her on TV when she was on The Old Grey Whistle Test.

... yes, a sort of 'world-weary' observer then! grin

It was apparently on Paramount+ which you have to pay to see, MissAdventure

On March 25 Trump bought shares in the company running it.

MissAdventure Mon 15-Jun-26 09:45:32

Oh well, I won't be watching, then. smile

NotSpaghetti Mon 15-Jun-26 10:04:43

I'm sure there will be news about it - or maybe a YouTube video or two?

Can't see British channels buying it though!

MissAdventure Mon 15-Jun-26 10:22:22

Yes, it'll leak out, no doubt.
Oh,, I can just see him posturing and preening... eurgh!

People dislike the man so much I am actually beginning to like him …oppositional syndrome. Have to think he is ‘different’ and won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Only in America ….

Maremia Mon 15-Jun-26 10:38:03

To 'like' him, you would perhaps also have to accept his alleged listings in the Epstein Files, the fact that he has been found guilty of SA, the fact that he is a convicted felon.

Winner gave Trump his medal.

How typically crass of the Donald to have a cage fight on the White House lawn to celebrate his birthday. The man has no class not to mention many other deficiencies.

Estrellita Mon 15-Jun-26 14:54:40

Yes. I was 80 in January. My two daughters took me for a night in a nice hotel in Richmond with a meal at a nice restaurant and a trip to the cinema. On my actual birthday my husband took me out to lunch.

Estrellita Mon 15-Jun-26 14:56:17

What is a cage fight? I don't like the sound of it.

Magenta8 Mon 15-Jun-26 16:08:39

Estrella it is two men fighting in a large link-wire cage. It is, allegedly, quite a sophisticated form of fighting with lots of different techniques and skills involved.

Your birthday celebrations sound really enjoyable. Much nicer and more civilised than Trumps.

MissAdventure Mon 15-Jun-26 16:11:18

Two people in a cage, fighting.
Well, supposedly demonstrating their mixed martial arts skills, and with evenly matched opponents, and good a good referee, that's what will happen.

It doesn't take much for things to go awry, though.

My 80th is in October… nothing planned. Eldest son and grandchildren live in Japan, other son busy in London. Best friends already died. But happy enough. Will likely have a meal with a few remaining friends? Or not…?
