The only thing I buy that has to be branded is frozen Bird's Eye peas, other brands don't taste the same! I'm another Aldi fan, great wine, fruit and veg is fresh and good value and their aged steak is excellent!

Their own brand petit pois are lovely.
Lidl grass fed fillet steak is fabulous. Husband’s a complete fusspot about meat and it’s the only steak he likes.

It depends what it is for me. I like branded coffee, and Coke. Has anybody found any really good flavoursome tinned tomatoes that are own brand?

Lidl and Aldi both have own brand tinned cherry tomatoes, really tasty.

Yes Morrisons.

Oops also Waitrose tinned tomatoes are delicious.

Have a look at the list of ingredients, and percentage of the fruit on own brand tomatoes including Waitrose, and compare them with Mutti.
If you want cheat tomatoes they will never taste as good. You get what you pay for.

For chocolate try Aldi or Lidl own branded chocolate, tastes much better than Cadbury’s and every bit as good as more expensive brands.
Have been buying their own brands for some time and find them as good as big brands. And this is from someone who shops online with Ocado and loves a few M&S treats, so I can compare and contrast.

Aldi and Lidl's own chocolate is very good - and much nicer than the sorry excuse that Cadbury's is these days.

Sainsbury Yeast Extract. A carbon copy of Marmite but pleasantly cheaper.

Thanks, I’ll give them a go.

I agree with foxie48 on Birds Eye frozen peas too, they are the best.

Own brand all the time apart from Weetabix. Most own brands taste like cardboard unless you know any different!

I can’t remember the last time we bought brand items.

MOnica I don’t know if you use hair conditioner but Lidl Cien Repair and Protect is the best I’ve used.

Thank you for that.

I use Tesco washing powder.

Tesco cocoa.

Tesco fluoride toothpaste.

Tesco Scottish porridge oats.

Tesco (Flash) floor cleaner.

To name a few.

Virtually everything I buy is homebrands. The only exceptions are Fairy Liquid, Pepsi Cola and Ringtons tea. When my son was young and suffering with eczema a dermatologist recommended Waitrose washing powder for sensitive skin and to be honest it has been fabulous

pably15 Fri 12-Jun-26 17:23:15

I usually buy own brand, tinned peaches Del Monte £1.30
Growers harvest 45p...same size and can't tell the difference

I have found that these days supermarket own brands are just as good as branded goods.

A house move has made Lidl my nearest supermarket and when shopping there I buy, almost exclusively their own brand goods. I have never tasted one, said 'yuk' and moved on to another stores own brand.

I have never bought branded goods when there has been a cheaper own brand available.

I will have a look in my cupboard at some point.

Give Aldi a go, always pleasantly surprised at the check out.

I'm trying to save a bit as everything is so expensive now so when I've been supermarket shopping I've changed to their own brands. I'm delighted with Tesco washing bio liquid. Find it just as good as Persil which has always been my go to. Tea bags - love M&S gold tea bags but very happy with Sainsbury's or Tesco equivalent. Shout replaced by own brand - appears to be as good. Am still buying Burford brown eggs as we really like those. Own brand bleach.

Any tips for anything else you find just as good or if not better.
