It feels odd to have a kitchen without our founder.

We shall carry on as she would have wished.

Oh Corner, I felt your pain and embarrassment and hope the car isn’t bankruptingly expensive to put right. My car costs me a fortune and spends most of its live sitting on the drive, but as I am in a village I am not sure Uber is the answer, though I could use them a lot for what the car costs to run - my insurance virtually doubled once I hit 80. Think I should I investigate.

Have had a busy day, including an afternoon’s bridge and am now contemplating what to have for supper. Meals for one are really of no interest.

cornergran what a horrible thing to happen, I hope the repairs to your car aren’t ruinously expensive.
utbb how nice to be able to see the house your DGD and her partner are buying.
castle goodbyes are always sad aren’t they. I hope it won’t be too long before your DD visits again.
I had a pottering sort of day, and didn’t achieve much. I had my hair coloured and cut this afternoon which was relaxing.
My cousin completely threw me this evening by asking if he and his wife could call in later next week on their way home from a short break in Norfolk. I haven’t seen them since 2017! We only communicate via text at Christmas and birthdays! Obviously I said they could come, but am now in a tizzy about their visit. I don’t often have visitors these days apart from my DDs and my niece. It will be good to see them, he’s ex navy and great fun!
Night night everyone, sleep well.

Thanks for a your kind thoughts. Just heard that Dd has arrived home after 2 long flights and a long layover in Dubai. One of her cats seemed uninterested to see her. Back to normal today. Went to get brows and lashes tinted and realised later we were too busy chatting I forgot to pay. A very embarrassed text followed. I love a glass of cremant llfl. naughtyneine I hope there is no serious damage.

I met a friend for coffee today, very pleasant. A trip to the small Lidl next door and then treated myself to a taxi.

I switched the heating on this evening for a couple of hours and it will help dry the washing. I have been using a hwb for nights. Is it June or January?

cornergran Sat 13-Jun-26 00:54:18

Thank you all for your kind messages. I feel fine now, quite pleased with myself for coping. We won’t know exactly what’s wrong and the cost until next Friday at the earliest. Until then it’s work out now life can go on via public transport. Off to collect an order from Next tomorrow. Usually it’s 12 minutes in the car. Two buses, a circular route, it’s at least an hour and a half each way. In a way it will be good for us as we will just have to go more slowly, no rushing about.

A decent, stress free day today. Volunteering this morning, my co volunteer kindly collected me. Salmon stir fry for lunch, a wander to the corner of the road to collect prescriptions and some milk, a lot of time reading my book while Mr C had a nap. A phone chat with both sons this evening.

Our heating was on for a while this morning Charley, couldn't face the shower in a cold bathroom.

How super you get to see the house utbb, it’s good to hear you’re included.

I’d be in a tizz too redcar, always am if anyone is foolish enough to risk my catering. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the day when it comes, a lot of catching up to do.

I couldn’t keep up the pace you do grannyg, good luck for the next visit.

Please look after yourself neine, your wellbeing is worth fighting the crowds for.

Time for sleep here. Goodnight everyone, sleep tight.

Charleygirl5 Sat 13-Jun-26 08:13:14

Welcome to the world of public transport "corner". I really miss my car but the Attendance Allowance easily pays for minicabs as I am not gadding about on a daily basis. It is a year since I surrendered my licence, and it feels like yesterday. I am restricted because minicabs are very expensive but IU survive.

I haven't felt the need to switch the heating on in the morning and until my wounds are healed, showers are a distant memory.

Look after yourselves.

Thank you for your kind thoughts. DH appeased ...it's a broken a rib but lung hasn't collapsed. ( I didn't think it had to be honest). Only worry if breathlessness gets worse ( it won't...I have a meaningful discussion with my lung and told it under no circumstances is it to collapse or cause any further problems). It will up to 6 weeks to heal and keep taking regular pain relief.....typical...I had only just stopped taking them for my hip which whisper it....is not hurting. The sun is out and the wind has dropped a bit too....The awning has stayed up which considering I carried on helping to get it up after the fall is a bit of a miracle but having said that DH is in his element wielding a mallet. DF is coming down to stay at the cottage next week and will be there when we get back...I think I might tell her to bring her passport....I feel the need for an all inclusive coming on.

Jaxjacky Sat 13-Jun-26 09:18:27

Good news neine worth getting checked, enjoy the rest of your stay.

cornergran Sat 13-Jun-26 09:27:24

That’s good news neine. Please, just be careful out there.

hulahoop Sat 13-Jun-26 09:47:57

Corner hope repairs are not too costly you appear to have coped admirably .
Neine what a thing to happen hope you don't get too much pain.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 13-Jun-26 10:33:58

cornergran I do hope your car repairs are not eye watering £££

naughtyneine ouch that is going to hurt for a while šŸ’ŠšŸ’ŠšŸ’Š

I am in zombie mode.

Didn’t sleep that well, two GC dropped off here at 8am (DS4’s he is celebrating his 40th with friends, should be back here around 8ish tomorrow night) GD (9) is watching a film on her iPad. GS (6) is in the hot tub with most of the bath toys.

We have school fete, gymnastics training (I will take GD), BBQ later. The Imp and DD will be at the fete, so the boys will have fun.

I think my next GC feee day is Sunday 21st, but being Father’s Day, I suppose we will be seeing them all and doing something.

I think I need a lay down in a darkened room…

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 13-Jun-26 11:17:56

Glad to hear your lungs are okay neine tgat was my concern for you.

GG13 you deserve a šŸ„‰ well done you! I bet you just love it all really and spoiling your grandchildren. A real pleasure isn’t it to see happy faces on children?

On that note I have decided I will take L’il Miss to The Trafford Centre this afternoon. Lush and Lego will feature. The bus itself takes only 5 minutes from here (3x sets of traffic lights!) but L’il Miss will enjoy a bus ride with grandma as obviously as a family they go everywhere by car!

Time for a coffee first.
I’m still in bed …. 😮

GrannyGravy13 Sat 13-Jun-26 17:34:31

The Imp has gone home, GD and little monster are in the pool, if I don’t get them out soon they will have shrunk.

BBQ all prepared to cook once they are showered and in their pj’s

Just had notification from Sainsbury’s that they have a 25% of wine promotion, best stock up with Whispering Angel and Chicken wine…

Grandmabatty Sat 13-Jun-26 17:48:11

Sounds good Grannygravy. I had the boys this afternoon. I filled the watering cans with salty water and they took great delight in watering the weeds in the drive. Then they wanted to do science experiments with water, salt and paint. Then I made salt dough and they made little people. After that, dgs2 fell asleep and dgs1 watched Blue Planet. A thoroughly educational afternoon! They are away now and I have put fish cake and chips in the oven for dinner. I might open a bottle of wine. I'd better make the bed first. Enjoy the rest of Saturday kitchen folk

8am Gg13! Goodness me.
We’ve had to water believe it or not, it’s windy again and it dries out the ground.
Good for drying washing though, two loads done, bed remade.
Then MrJ dug up some new potatoes to have for dinner tonight with quiche and salad.

ā€˜Evening All’

I just eaten a ready meal. Nice to have after a good couple of hours in the Trafford Centre with L’il Miss. I bought her a huge box of Lego and treated myself to a mid calf linen dress from Hobbs, cream with brown polka dots I love it for summer … if it comes!

Redcar Sat 13-Jun-26 20:03:09

jaxjacky i was putting plants in the front garden, and discovered that the ground was only slightly
damp for about two inches, and bone dry and compacted under that! I struggled to put the plants in and gave them gallons of water. The wind is very drying.

A nice afternoon for you fgt and for L’il miss too.

I’ll try watering the weeds with salt water grandmabatty it will be easier than spraying with weed killer.

You’ll need that wine after tomorrow gg

Enjoy the rest of the evening folks.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 13-Jun-26 21:32:15

I’ve had a lovely afternoon. I’ve eaten and been watching some catch up tv. I went to the fridge and found some 70% dark chocolate from Aldi in the fridge door. It broke my heart s I remembered this was what Himself used to eat because it would melt if he took his time with it - he could swallow and enjoy it. Small things like this just undo me and I’ve cried a lot this evening. I suppose it’s a release of sorts.

He counselled that I’d be best to save my tears for when I’m home and on my own. My most darling man I miss you so much.

I’ve had Horlicks and feel totally drained alone this Saturday night.
Best I turn in I think.

Tomorrow is a whole new day.
Goodnight Kitcheners. My thoughts are with all who, like me feel this depth of longing and sorrow with no where to put it. x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 13-Jun-26 21:35:06

Sorry to offload it’s just hard sometimes and I wouldn’t share this with anyone tonight. It’s a nice feeling to know I can do so here - a safe space for grief.

Thank you to Soop. x
