It feels odd to have a kitchen without our founder.

We shall carry on as she would have wished.

Supporting each other and sharing our ups and downs 😘🥂🫖☕️🍰

It’s been quite pleasant here today and it’s such a relief to be able to get on with things.

After all the work it takes to set things up that was hugely disappointing Nannytopsy. Hope the meds work quickly for you Grannygravy.

GrannySomerset Mon 29-Jun-26 19:12:36

Hope your time in your happy place is all you need and hope for, FGT. I am enjoying having enough energy to deal with daily life though next week looks hot and challenging again.

Jaxjacky Mon 29-Jun-26 19:06:42

Hi all, a very pleasant temperature today of 23, all my clients needing lifts were matched by 5 when I sign off, satisfying.
Well Nannytopsy that’s rather disheartening after all the effort, I understand the hours involved.
That was very efficient Redcar good job done. MrJ’s car decided reverse gear was an issue during the hot weather, I had visions of a new £££ gearbox. A brilliant mechanic sprayed the gearbox from underneath, not WD40, but similar, all fixed, our usual mechanic is retiring, so this new chap will get our trade.
I envision FGT sitting with something cold in a glass and her memories 🍹.
Get better soon GG13.
Have a pleasant evening all.

It’s been mid to high 20’s here in my little corner of Essex.

I have been thinking my hay fever has been exceptionally severe this last week, silly me, seeing the GP this morning they told me I have a chest infection and an asthma flare up so back on steroids and a course of antibiotics 😡. I shall take it easy for a few days.

The Imp is here for his weekly sleepover, time to wrangle him off of the iPad (he is playing a game remotely with his cousin) and into the shower.

I hope FGT2 has had a good journey to her happy place 🛫

Thinking of all our friends in the quiet corner 🙋‍♀️

brook2704 Mon 29-Jun-26 17:56:32

All ok temperature wise up here in Inverness redcar 🥶 might just need a jumper later 😂

Redcar Mon 29-Jun-26 17:47:37

A little cooler today thank goodness - only 27 outside! It’s a comfortable (ish) 26.5 upstairs, hope it gets a bit lower tomorrow.
nannytopsy what a shame that so few people attended your village meeting yesterday. No doubt they’ll all complain that there’s nothing to do in the village!

brook enjoy your line dancing, still too hot for such activity here, unless you have air conditioning in the hall!

I had to call out a locksmith this morning as my back door wasn’t locking properly. He came within an hour and replaced a couple of parts in the mechanism, so I’m secure again.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner.

Have a pleasant evening everyone.

brook2704 Mon 29-Jun-26 16:36:46

Such a shame and a disappointment nannytopsy when you’ve made such an effort and not many show up. You can only try. I’d certainly enjoy a scone with clotted cream please if you’ve any left
Hoping your dishwasher is fixed now charley, one less job for you. I’m hanging onto my driving licence as long as possible although DH does most of the driving these days. But should that change I can take over if needed, we’re lucky I know
Tesco Finest Crispy & Herby Garlic Haddock Kievs later - not sure what they’re like but will see ….
I’m off out to a line dancing class this evening, I’ll be seeing lots of the same ladies as yesterday but we all enjoy it so off we go 😀

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 29-Jun-26 13:37:46

Ah not so much really Charleygirl5 we did out homework when we bought in Málaga

Not just one but TWO supermarkets are right downstairs - one on each corner of the apartment building - 😁

Charleygirl5 Mon 29-Jun-26 08:24:10

I agree Nannytopsy and those who don't bother to turn up are the ones who wonder why x, y or z was never done.It is very irritating for those who care.

fgt a pleasant flight out, I hope it is not too hot there. You must miss the downstairs larder when you go to Spain. I would!

OMG there is such a breeze coming into my kitchen I am considering closing the doors as I feel a tad cold.

My dishwasher will be repaired this pm. That will make a difference as the machine does it better than me.

I have nothing to wash which is a minor miracle so I must get dressed and face the day.

I am still missing surrendering my driving licence, it will be a year next week. Be warned ladies, life is definitely not the same!

Nannytopsy Mon 29-Jun-26 08:00:47

It’s a lovely morning in Suffolk - not too warm today.
We were part of a team that organised an open event for the village yesterday. Cream teas and an opportunity to discuss what events they want, should we rebuild the village hall etc. of a population of 500, 24 people came. It is so disappointing that we made so much effort and no one could be bothered. I think we have to accept that’s the way it is here. I have rather a lot of scones and clotted cream if anyone is interested!
Today is gardening after some WI admin and a dog walk. She’s growling at pigeons at the moment.
Have a good flight FGT and I hope everyone has a good day.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 28-Jun-26 22:33:33

Hello kitchen people.

Much cooler today! Around 22 degrees. In fact it got so cool that OH put long trousers on! I nearly wore a cardigan,

Have a good flight tomorrow FGT.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Redcar Sun 28-Jun-26 21:37:47

fgt safe travels to Malaga tomorrow. Good you were able to find another cabin bag for your new swimming costumes. Have a good time with your friends there. I’m pleased your mammogram was clear, a quick response from the nhs!

A cooler day today with a nice breeze, I felt more energized and cut the grass/weeds in the back garden, it looks so much better now. Did some washing and got it dry outside, I’ll iron it tomorrow.

Night night everyone, I hope we all have a better night now it’s a bit cooler!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 28-Jun-26 21:09:22

I am having an early night, my busy but fabulous day yesterday has caught up with me.

Safe journey FGT2 I remember the first time I landed at Malaga airport after mum had died, I cried all the way to the train station.

You are doing so well 👍🏻

brook2704 Sun 28-Jun-26 20:51:15

fgt ❤️, safe travels to Malaga tomorrow
I’ve had a really good day, been out all afternoon at a line dancing social event in a local hotel, it was really good with live music, dancing and a few drinks 🍹 I’m on the sofa now with my feet up, Fitbit shows 19,000 steps - that’ll do me for today 🤣
Hoping the extreme heat has eased a bit and is more bearable, take care all especially friends in the quiet corner

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 28-Jun-26 20:12:39

‘Evening All’

A much more pleasant day weather wise here, with less humidity. I went to the local garden centre with youngest daughter and L’il Miss, where she bought scented jasmine and honeysuckle. Home to find an NHS letter telling me that my mammogram done on Monday was normal.

My relief is palpable. Cancer now terrifies me. A learned response I suppose.

I’ve just gathered together the bits and bobs I want to take out to Málaga tomorrow afternoon. 3 new swimsuits bc I had to cull some when I was last over - they were past their best. Consequently I can’t fit them into my more spacious leather ‘airport’ handbag and had to get a grip bag out of the wardrobe for this trip. Then I cried. That cabin bag was used extensively for so many Christie admissions last year and I just couldn’t bring myself to get it down. 😢

I found another, with no memories.
Such is my life at present. I try not to press the bruise if I can help it, as it hurts.

cornergran Sun 28-Jun-26 10:52:44

My hot water bottle has done sterling service half filled with water and frozen Charley. Alongside me in bed I felt at least comfortable. It’s never off duty.

Much cooler here today, the coastal wind is back, windows open front and back. Wonderful!

Wishing you all a cool and comfortable Sunday.

Charleygirl5 Sun 28-Jun-26 10:13:49

I watched the second goal then went to bed. A good job England wasn't playing Spain or they would have been slaughtered, Although they scored, I didn't think it was up to their standard. I have no idea when they are playing again. Poor old Scotland has been eliminated,

All I had to eat until early evening were two ice creams All I could manage was spag with a tomato sauce.

Today is much cooler, not 35C, more mid 20's which I can cope with.

Soon I will be searching for a hwb and moaning about the cold.

At least I am saving money not cooking. My dishwasher has taken a holiday so I must get it repaired, hopefully tomorrow.

Redcar Sat 27-Jun-26 22:58:48

Still hot here in Essex, but down to 22 outside now. A lot warmer indoors. When I went to bed last night, there was a lot of lightning and some thunder a long way away. I think it rumbled on all night, with showers. A sunny morning but grey and showery this afternoon.
DD1 and her DH came over (plus dog) and dd2 and family also called in, so a houseful this morning. The 3 year old played on the slide for a while. The slide is 10years old and is showing its age. She’ll be too big for it soon then it can go!
Didn’t do much after they’d all gone. I’ll be glad when it cools down a bit more and I can start to do some gardening again. I have to be careful gardening but I like to do it. i hope you enjoyed Take That grannygravy. My DDs usually go to see them but haven’t booked this year.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner.

Night night everyone, I’m not staying up to watch the football, but will no doubt check the situation if I can’t sleep!!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 27-Jun-26 22:17:53

Ooh that’s a thought Charleygirl5! I probably could. There are some chairs dotted around the place….

England have just kicked off I believe. I hope they do well. I shall find out in the morning. 💤 Night dear Kitcheners.

dragonfly46 Sat 27-Jun-26 21:42:03

Today was the first day I have struggled in the heat. It feels so hot and humid and everything aches from Pilates yesterday.
Hoping for better days from tomorrow.

Jaxjacky Sat 27-Jun-26 20:27:03

Have a wonderful time GG13 🕺
Oh no, Charleygirl how frustrating for you, roll on tomorrow.
At last, it’s cooler, lovely, even earlier at 27 it was humid, no sign of any rain, we’ve just had a bbq, full tums ready for the ⚽️.
Earlier we called into our local and caught up with people, the pub is gearing up for a busy night, we were one of the last few to have real glasses, plastic from then on.
I hope you’re more comfortable utbb.
Hugs to the quiet corner, Baggs and Mrsoop

Charleygirl5 Sat 27-Jun-26 18:39:41

I live in London and it has been mid 30's here. No rain unfortunately but Monday may be cooler. Both legs are bandaged so I haven't had a shower for 2 weeks. I thought I had bin bags here but no so they are ,coming tomorrow via Tesco,

FGT I am jealous of where you live. Surely the store wouldn't mind you sitting quietly with your book beside a freezer?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 27-Jun-26 09:59:52

Usedtobeblonde I hope you are cooler today.

Feet in cool or even cold water helps, worth a try.

It was mid 30’s,when we went out to dinner last night, and our bedroom was the same most of the night. Thunder rumbling from just after midnight, heavy rain and lightening joined the party around 3am. Of course DH slept through, unfortunately I didn’t, and feel exhausted.

I am going to the Take That concert tonight with one of my daughter-in-laws, dinner first and then into our hospitality seats (courtesy of DS3 he knows they way to keep his wife and mummy happy 🥂🍾🩷)

Thinking of those in the quiet corner 😘

Jaxjacky Sat 27-Jun-26 09:27:21

utbb you sound so despairing, I’m not sure how to offer help. Could you perhaps get air conditioning in at least one room to make you more comfortable?
Take care dear lady, hopefully today will be easier.

Redcar Fri 26-Jun-26 23:15:40

My bedroom faces west so gets the sun from about 3.00 until sunset. I’ve got a fan on but the thermostat on the landing says it’s 31.5!! If I can’t sleep I’ll go downstairs where it’s marginally cooler.

utbb I sympathise, I don’t cope with the heat as well as I used to and don’t really know how to keep the house any cooler.
I’ve been looking at some sort of film to stick to the windows, but it works best if it’s stuck to the outside, fine downstairs but difficult upstairs!
Night night everyone. Fingers crossed we get some sleep.
