It feels odd to have a kitchen without our founder.

We shall carry on as she would have wished.

Supporting each other and sharing our ups and downs 😘🥂🫖☕️🍰

Im feeling better today, thanks all. The housework and washing is well underway and shortly I will make raspberry jam. Enjoy your Saturday kitchen folk

Hello kitcheners L’il Miss and I are about to eat she didn’t want to go out so I’ve got garlic bread in the oven and spag Bol not home made Charlie Bigham’s we just nipped into the larder to buy it!

I love she arrived with her backpack that she’d packed herself with all the essentials a nine year old needs for an overnighter … 🥰

Redcar Sat 01-Aug-26 21:30:28

fgt I hope you have a lovely time with L’il miss this evening! I like her overnight essentials!

Warm again today, breezy at times but a bit humid. I pottered about all day, not achieving much, but kept busy, changed the bedclothes and will wash them tomorrow on the cheap rate electricity . Both DDs and families are away this weekend, they planned to go to a theme park near the Suffolk coast today. DD2 may call in on their way back tomorrow.

grandmabatty I’m pleased you’re feeling better today.

It’s dark now, nearly bedtime. I hope I can get to sleep before 1.30 tonight!
Night night all.

Hello kitchen people,

Well, I collected my dress from the seamstress and she has done the alterations beautifully. I also popped into Waitrose and got a few things.

I thought we were having lunch out tomorrow and had booked a table. OH still has a bad cough so I’ve cancelled.

While OH was outside in his hammock I watched the Kenneth Branagh Death on the Nile. Decidedly odd!

Sleep 💤 tight.

Charleygirl5 Sat 01-Aug-26 23:22:09

fgt li'i miss couldn't have survived a night without those essentials. Did she remember a less relevant item like a nightdress or whatever she wears and clean clothes for tomorrow? She sounds delightful.

I am not a fan of Charlie Bigham's food, I don't like it and think it is very expensive.

I wore a cardigan today as there was a nip in the wind but I enjoyed the sunshine. I can't remember when we last had rain. Grandamabatty I am pleased you are feeling better but are you not doing too much? I think you should come here for a "holiday" and tackle this house. I would be very grateful. You would enjoy London if you were not too exhausted.

Hi kitchen pals, DGS and cute puppy have just left for home. It’s been so lovely having them stay here, I’ll definitely miss them and already the house seems very quiet. I’ve a bit of tidying up and cleaning to do, the utility room floor has a few doggy paw prints but it’s an easy wipe clean surface so wont take long. I’ll change DGSs bedding later ready for next time. I’m going to have a lazy afternoon, I definitely don’t want to see any board games for a while although we learnt a new one called Catan which was quite good
I hope L’il Miss enjoyed her sleepover fgt, you too
Charleygirl do you have any pets?
I’ll catch up later with you all, in the meantime enjoy your Sunday everyone

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Aug-26 12:42:07

I am currently laying on a sun lounger in the garden, lovely and warm 25°

The washing machine is doing its thing, I shall look for a new easy read on my kindle, cannot be doing with a thinking book at the moment 😹

Enjoy your Sunday 🙋‍♀️

Usedtobeblonde Sun 02-Aug-26 12:58:05

It is a beautiful sunny and very warm day here today.
68 years today since my H and I married.
My friend up the road has bought a mobility scooter so we have been round the park and had a takeaway coffee from the cafe.
She is not very confident on it yet but enjoyed our outing.
I am invited for a Sunday roast with my GD and her partner later I am really looking forward to it.

Do far I have made boeuf bourgignon in the slow cooker, a quick trip to Aldi for stuff I forgot yesterday, a large sponge which I will ice soon and peanut butter cookies. I've had lunch and I'm about to make chocolate chip cookies and a gingerbread. Most of the cake and goodies will go to the family but I'll keep the gingerbread. It's been a very productive day so far!

I’ve just been on the bus to see my stepfather.

He must be getting over his shingles. He’d just come in from cutting the back grass. 🫪

Charleygirl5 Sun 02-Aug-26 13:56:44

brook I had a dofg as a child and cats swhen we bought our first house. I didnt choose the cats, they chose the house and its occupants. I have been on my own since 1988 and have had cats until 3 years ago when my last cat died.

I was 79 then and made a decision that was the last because when I die there is nobody to look after it. At 82 I no longer drive so would have mega problems getting an animal to a vet and if I had a hospital emergency, heaven knows what would happen. I miss a cat but it's best for the animal.

Still no rain in London. My weeds are flourishing without.

Nannytopsy Sun 02-Aug-26 19:09:56

Charleygirl I have had at least one cat for most of my life but we lost Charlie about 3 years ago. We decided to take a cat break, while we can go away frequently. There may be one in the future …
My DB is 80 and has been very unwell for a couple of years. Today he has been taken to hospital with multiple organ failure and his family have been with him all day. I have been watching my phone for the message all day.

Redcar Sun 02-Aug-26 19:49:42

nannytopsy I’m so sorry to hear this. Thinking of you and your family.

Another warm day but with a stiff easterly breeze, if I open the patio door to get some air in the house, all the other doors bang shut🙄. I vacuumed downstairs, the stairs and bedrooms this morning. Then attacked my bedroom carpet with stain remover, to remove the marks left by drips of body lotion. Fairly successful, but my back aches now.
DD2 and family called in on their way home from a long weekend in Suffolk. They had a lovely time. DD1 is back tomorrow. DGD3 has had a good birthday today.

utbb I hope you have a lovely time with your DGD.

fgt I’m glad your stepfather is recovering from his bout of shingles, it can be very nasty and painful. He’s done well to cut the grass!

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.

brook2704 Sun 02-Aug-26 19:58:59

So sorry to hear about your brother nannytopsy, thinking of you and the family ❤️

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Aug-26 20:03:33

Nannytopsy (((hugs)))

We are a cat free household, and I feel that there is something missing 😿

I have had a lazy day, no guilt as a busy week ahead.

I have also admitted to DH that his new car is good to drive (despite having backseat and passenger seat drivers, slightly inebriated, and knowing best ) negotiating multiple roadworks, diversions and wearing prescription sunglasses as opposed to normal ones in the dark.

Thinking of all kitchen pals in the quiet corner 😿

brook2704 Sun 02-Aug-26 20:09:01

We used to have a cat charleygirl but sadly no longer. My mum had a cat right up until she died, and then her next door neighbour took it in and looked after it for a good few years. We used to get regular updates on how she was doing
Goodness grandmabatty you’ve been busy, well done - much better than me today
I changed the bedding in DGSs room and found quite a few chocolate wrappers hidden under his pillow ….. 😂

Grandmabatty Sun 02-Aug-26 20:13:17

Oh NannyTopsy I'm really sorry to hear that.

Jaxjacky Sun 02-Aug-26 20:39:41

Thoughts with you Nannytopsy x
A quiet day, just sorted out logistics for driving daughter and grandchildren to Gatwick next week, an early start.
Every time I see raindrops on the forecast the next day they’ve disappeared! I keep hoping.
Memories utbb 💐

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 02-Aug-26 21:41:53

NannyTopsy thoughts with you tonight dear lady.
👋 to all in the quiet corner.
Anxiety, for whatever reason, is debilitating. x

My brother died peacefully early this morning. He has been ill for a long time so it was not unexpected but of course we shall miss him.
