Good morning, Michael12 and all!

FriedGreenTomaties2 - it looks beautiful there!

Last night was still humid, but the clouds were thick and dark, then in the night there was rain, and I saw flashes of lightning from miles away, about 10 past midnight. It's been raining heavily this morning, and it was gorgeous! I walked to work in my t-shirt and thin, long, flowy top, getting wet, so beautiful!

In bed last night, I had a massive sneezing fit, 22 of them, one after the other, like a machine gun! My skull opened at the top like a lid, my brain jumped out and walked over the duvet and onto the floor, where it stood facing the corner of the room! Well, it felt like it did! I then spent ages killing myself laughing as the constant sneezing was hilarious!

Tatty bye for now!

Thank you dragonfly

Welcome Sunshinegirls my DH said this morning that the storm last night reminded him of camping in France in a storm.

Sunshinegirls Thu 28-May-26 09:57:37

Good morning everyone just joined GN although I have been following this thread for a while and soops thread. Lovely and sunny today I'm camping in Shropshire we were woken up last night with thunder and lightening and hubby had to jump out of bed to secure our awning the joys of camping lol. Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Good morning from sunny Wiltshire.

We had a huge thunderstorm at 1am last night with massive hailstones which dented conservatory roofs and car bonnets in places. We didn’t get more than a minute of hail where we are - it was reported as being the size of ‘cotton reels’. DH slept through it.

Feel slightly heartbroken. DS said DGD2 has swum in her last competition. Winning a gold medal with 10 seconds off her personal best at 100m for breast stroke and a silver in individual medley. She wants to concentrate on AcroArts now which is a combo of gymnastics and acting apparently. All pressure on DGS1 who has made the Nationals.

DGD1 is home from Uni for the holidays and has got her old summer job back at Nirvana health spa which is good news for her.

Have a good day everyone. I’ll read your posts when I get a chance.

After another torrid night I am fit for very little but have quite a busy day ahead. Yesterday evening the door on the garden room wouldn’t close, leaving the house vulnerable (and the insurance invalid) so I when I did sleep it was with one ear open. Just waiting for a call back from the installers to say when they are coming - they are a local firm so it should be some time today. The car is going to the garage as it is saying it needs an oil change and I am waiting for it to be collected. U3A book group due at 10.30 then nothing till a Tesco delivery at 4.00. No wonder I feel exhausted!

Shall be really glad when this heat moves off but guess it is a warning about what the future may look like.

Good morning from Sunnyside Sandhills northwest coast after thunderstorms and rain last night.
Really enjoyable day yesterday and I’m loving this weather, just right for me with my Raynauds and I feel the cold so much. I love jumping in the shower without being an ordeal.

The usual Wednesday lunchtime recital. although it consisted of some piano pieces Schumann wrote before he was carted off to a sanatorium. I wish they had left them in the drawer, but redeemed by some lovely Liszt.

I was so pleased when someone in the audience recognised me and congratulated me on my singing, although couldn’t remember what they had seen them in. It made my day.

Then a panini lunch and a little shopping. New t shirts.

This morning off for my Covid jab which I’m not looking forward to as I often feel wonky afterwards and this afternoon I pick up my new contact lenses after a try out.

Thoughts to all and wishing you a good day 🌺

Grandmabatty Thu 28-May-26 08:33:15

GrannyIvy a happy birthday to your dh.

GrannyIvy Thu 28-May-26 08:27:56

Good morning from the sunny (and less windy today) Algarve.

DH is 71 today and we are planning to go on a walk we enjoy ending up at a beautiful beach then lunch out. Our holiday is rushing by and we will return home to the UK at the weekend. I have missed my garden and worried that certain things will have survived the heatwave. My friend (who is not a gardener and a bit forgetful) has been watering so fingers crossed.

Hoping the day will be easier for those who are struggling and everyone will find something to smile and enjoy today 🌷

EkwaNimitee Thu 28-May-26 08:12:02

Good morning Mick and everyone from cloudy Carlisle where it is 13°C and rain threatens.
I got a rare 8 hours sleep last night though I suppose that was because I got such a bad night's sleep the night before. So I'm later today...
It was still very hot yesterday so I ambled through a few chores, sat at some admin but finally managed a walk in the park after lunch. It was very busy, lots of youngsters about as it's the holidays. I really prefer the early mornings but good to see them being active and not indoors over screens.

Today I will still be playing catch up with jobs so a bit of vacuuming and shower cleaning is in the offing, plus I have a Tesco delivery mid-morning. And the garden beckons...maybe this afternoon. Plants are still sitting around waiting to go in though their number is diminishing. Just about everything in the garden seems to have exploded into growth, it's all beginning to resemble a mini jungle, which was my plan.
I've been giving my little fruit and veg border a hard look, I shall probably be re-organishing it come autumn. Meanwhile, my new gooseberry and blackberry bushes are thriving though I think the former will only be contributing to a very mini gooseberry crumble!

And wishing you all a pleasant day if possible.

Good morning from sunny South Lanarkshire.

I’m thoroughly enjoying this spell of beautiful weather, our temperatures aren’t as high as down south though.

I caught up with the ironing yesterday morning, along with bed changing and batch cooking so I felt I deserved my afternoon in the garden with my book.

There has been a question mark hanging over our flights for our holiday next month as we were due to fly via the UAE. However DD now has managed to get them refunded and has rebooked with another airline so we can relax and look forward to our trip.

Childminding day today. I haven’t read the thread yet, I’ll catch up on the journey.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Redcar Thu 28-May-26 07:41:42

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, where it’s sunny and a little cooler this morning. There was a cool breeze yesterday which kept the temperature down to a comfortable 23degrees. No rain for us!
I pottered about yesterday, tried on a lot of my summer clothes and have a bag ready for the charity shop.
The washing is on and I’m hoping to be able to do some gardening this morning. I was chatting over the fence to my next door neighbour yesterday afternoon and realised how much bramble there was and how many unidentified plants are growing. A gift from the birds I think.
DD2 and family arrived home from Türkiye in the early hours after their flight was delayed by an hour. Hopefully they will have had some sleep and we’ll catch up later today.

nannyjan I hope that your stepdaughter’s operation goes well this morning.

fgt I hope you have an enjoyable, if poignant, meet-up with your friend. How is your BiL?

brook your holiday in Switzerland sounds delightful.

I hope that marydoll’s DH is less irascible today and that the new meds will help him. It must be such a worrying situation for them both, which hopefully will improve soon,

Thinking of all who are struggling.

Have the best day possible everyone, keep cool if you can,

Marydoll Thu 28-May-26 07:37:16

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 11°, with 24° predicted.
Not often, that we get temperatures like that up here.
Most of my summer clothes are in the loft, I need one of my children to go up, DH is obviously not able. It will probably be Autumn, before I get them.🤣

Thank you all for your kindness yesterday.
I am mortified, thinking about my meltdown at the surgery yesterday.
I had reached the end of my tether and couldn't deal with things anymore.
My children are burying their heads in the sand and think I am exaggerrating, DH is very good at putting on an act in front of them and anyway, they are too busy with stressful jobs and family. DH is ever ill, they are scared. Ostriches. 😪

This morning, I have to drop off samples for DH at the surgery. The GP was very thorough and made a point of inviting me into the consultation. She wants to rule out that nothing else is going on and has organised tests. She agreed DH's BP is too high and has given him more medication.

I hate that drive to the surgery in Paisley, through the junction, where a lorry once ran in to me, having run a red light. I had to drive it twice yesterday. My stomach churns every time I approach it.

I will go out early and then spend the day pottering in the garden, so much needs done. I just haven't been well enough.
Yesterday, I dropped a small paving slab on my toe, I had been asking DH to move it for weeks then banged my head on a tree. 😭
DH had removed the bricks, which were keeping the bottom of my little greenhouse stable, promised to replace them, but never did, so I dragged the slab across his precious grass!
It was the last straw. My language was choice the P.P. would be horrified. He thinks I am a good Catholic girl.🤣

The convent grammar school, Borrheid and I went to, was attended by girls from all over Renfrewshire, we did not come from the same town and met there at the age of twelve.
It is funny how everything comes around again. I keep bumping into former pupils, I have not seen in decades.

GM, I hope you enjoy your meet up, as much as the Glesca Grannies do!!

Best wishes to all, especially for hospital appointments and operations

Melanie61 Thu 28-May-26 07:36:44

FGT, it must be very difficult for her and a worry for you, I hope the op went well and he recovers quickly . It sounds like it’s going to be a tricky road ahead. A lot of rehabilitationflowers

Gingster Thu 28-May-26 07:32:27

Good morning all.
Yesterday was beautiful with a refreshing cool breeze. I managed to go up to town and shop with my trusty trolley. Solicitors, bank and market. I bought a tray of geraniums and trotted back down the hill, ready for coffee with dh. He’d had the chiropodist come while i was out,so the rest of the day was ours.

9.30 Ive got an appointment at Specsavers with the audiologist.
Dh had lost one hearing aid and I couldn’t get the other one working after changing the filter and globe twice. 😤.
Last evening I came in from the garden and there, in the stones was lost hearing aid. We had searched everywhere in the garden, house, under chairs etc. and I’d given up.
Before bed I tried for the nth time to get the other one working and, yes it lit up - success.

I’m keeping the appointment so that they can have a look and ‘service’ them.

Back home, a quick shower and hop on the train to meet my two school pals for lunch. We had to cancel when Dh was in hospital.

I hope MD feels better and calmer and her Dh is getting some medical help. 🙏

Take care all 🥵

FGT, how is your BIL. Did you manage a visit?

Not yet he only had his surgery yesterday
My sister goes every day (natch)
I’ve WApp’d her this morning telling her she’s in my thoughts when she drives to Marbella today it will be the first time post theatre so I thought best give them some space

I will possibly go Sunday or Monday but will of course ask her tomorrow beforehand. I imagine she’s quite emotional.

dragonfly46 Thu 28-May-26 07:26:05

Good morning from a warm Leicestershire.

NWR was good last night. We read a play which was very funny.
We had a spectacular storm last night and I am hoping all my peonies have survived.
We are going to visit kitty’s lake today for lunch.
I hope it won’t be too hot.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

kittylester Thu 28-May-26 07:21:58

Good morning all from a cooler North Leicestershire. We had a big thunderstorm about 4am. The forecast, however, is 29° later on.

We made a lovely discovery yesterday - a cafe, by a lake, which sells lovely food. We will be back.

Today, I have a dental appointment and DH is doing a volunteer drive. Sainsbury's delivery at tea time.

Have the best day possible everyone.

ginny Thu 28-May-26 07:18:32

Good morning. We had rain overnight after a very windy evening. Today should teach 25 but not clear sun.
Not sure what’s on the agenda today but probably not too much driving as we return home tomorrow.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Georgesgran Thu 28-May-26 07:17:57

Good Morning from Durham. I wasn’t expecting heavy rain, but we’ve got it. It won’t help me empty my water butt, which I want to re-site.
Coffee this morning with a friend, then back home - not sure if I’ll start DGS2’s laundry if it’s still raining, but there’s plenty to do before I take Little Dog out before dark.

Thinking of our unwell posters and those dealing with their unwell loved ones.

Best wishes to all. X

BlueSapphire Thu 28-May-26 07:15:39

Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny 🌞 day in Northampton. Yesterday was a lovely bearable day with a cooling breeze; I managed to get the front grass cut (at 9am!), and in the afternoon actually sat in the garden under the shade of the pergola and started a new book. Got quite a few household tasks done in the morning as it was cooler.

My neighbour should have been coming for coffee this morning but texted me last night to see if I'd mind changing it - it's her DGS2's birthday today and her DD wants to take everyone out for breakfast. So have switched it to tomorrow afternoon which actually suits me better.

So I will hop on the bus and go to the shops this morning; I want a nice steak and like to choose my.own, rather than have it in my delivery. I am sure I'll find a few more items as well.

Thinking of all with struggles especially Marydoll.
Wishing all a pleasant day.

Melanie61 Thu 28-May-26 07:07:05

FGT, how is your BIL. Did you manage a visit?

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 28-May-26 07:04:58

Morning all from a slightly cooler West Oxfordshire. The temperature is predicted to be 28.

It is my Book Group today. We meet in the local cafe so I will have a light lunch there.

My latest V&A course starts today. It is on Art Deco.

OH cut the lawns yesterday, we had left them for no mow May but we’re off on holiday on Sunday and don’t want to come back to a jungle.

Good wishes for the MaryDs. I hope things are starting to improve.

Have a good day.

Melanie61 Thu 28-May-26 07:04:26

Good morning from Sheffield
Well the jet washer man worked his magic yesterday . He’s done a fantastic job. It looks so much better and he’s going to give us a price to resurface our tarmac drive which is a bit worse for wear.
It’s a bit drizzly this morning .
We will be moving all the pots and furniture back onto the paths this afternoon and then I need to go and get my bedding plants. A bit later this year because of going away last week.
I also have 2DGS 6 and 9 for the day as my daughter is working . It is a bit easier now that they are a bit older. It used to be like WW3. They’re quite happy little souls and get on quite well these days.
Just the DSinL for tea when he comes to pick up the boys. I’ve got a big quiche, not sure if I do salad or chips probably chips as it’s easiest.
Take care everyoneflowers

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° with hazy sunshine. It's forecast to get hot later. Brook that's sounds lovely. Enjoy the scenery. GrandMattie it's beyond belief. They take your money but don't fulfil their side. Fgt a lovely photo.
Yesterday I visited my best friend's partner for coffee and cake. We blethered for a couple of hours. I headed home afterwards to put up my swollen ankles for a while, then did nothing else. Dgs1 won his race at his school sports day so he was a very happy wee boy. Dd managed to go for some of the time.
Today I will go to tesco to buy cakes for the nursery staff. I'm hoping for strawberry tarts which are quintessentially summer. It's just as a wee thank you for all they do. Then I will do some tidying in the school library before heading home. How much I do at home will depend on my feet and the heat. Have a good day all.
