What are you avoiding doing in this heat?

I like sunny days but the heat saps my energy.
I can’t do anything energetic for more than 20 minutes.
I have watered the plants but am not going outside until there is some shade. The housework will have to wait. I have no plans for today but will try to tick some admin jobs off my list.

I have to stay in due to the persistent high levels of pollen. If I go out it is in the evening when it's cooler.
I love the hot sunny weather and feel frustrated that I am still suffering with the hay fever- it has never been so bad before.

That’s not a proper bbq David far too clinical. You need filthy hands from charcoal, odd pieces of food accidentally dropped on the coals (quickly put back on the rack) and mouth burning chefs perks.
Not poisoned anyone yet in 40 odd years.

Nice to see you, too smile

I cheat, I don't like cremated or undercooked food so I cook in a tray on the Gas BBQ then char the meats sightly on the hot bars.

So it looks good and IS cooked properly

I am supposed to be having a barbecue - but it is so ‘blimmin’ hot, and we are hungry and don’t want to wait until it cools off - at this rate about midnight.

Might just cook it indoors where is is half a degree cooler.

Everything! It's currently 28 degrees in my flat, outside is probably cooler but I'm unable to get outside due to illness. So I'm laid on my bed (the bedroom is the coolest room) being blasted by my fan.

Yesterday I was on my ipad so much that it died on me!
Actually the battery was not holding its charge any longer so I knew it was life expired. This morning I collected a new one and went round in circles trying to get it set up. It didn’t help that I hardly slept last night. Success eventually.
I have to go out this afternoon but it is a bit cooler and a pleasant breeze.

Hi
I came back from my nephews wonderful wedding in Barbados (he’s married a Bajan) yesterday. So accustomed to 30c! But this is different.
I live in a 2 bed flat: so no garden
I did my skin damage when I was 16 with ambre solaire ! When I’d be like a rotisserie chicken!
No more: I don’t go out in the heat, don’t sit in direct sun, sunglasses, sun hat, factor 50+
Windows only open early or late with blinds (don’t have curtains) down! Don’t let the sun in, keep the house as cool as possible.
Washing was done (nearly dry) at 5.30am!
I’ve just done holiday and other admin.
Drinking lots of water and just crashing as I’m still on Barbados time!
Take life cool & easy, no rush

It has been marginally cooler where I am this morning, and a few degrees make a big difference to me. I was up early, and I’ve done quite a bit in the garden already, but I’m now flaked out.

EVERYTHING.

Thank you ViceVersa for the information about anti depressants. I was not aware but now understand why I am constantly drenched in sweat in this weather

On holiday down near Bath in a holiday lodge. Missing the AC. Went into Bath yesterday on Park n Ride then open top sight seeing bus - heat was brutal! Silly decision 🤪.

I’m so grateful that I retired and so am not in a classroom with 30 5/6 year olds!

I had to go into Brighton today to do some errands. I was aghast to see so many people wandering about with very little sun protection. There will be many sore shoulders and backs tonight I think.
I am avoiding exposing skin as much as I can as I dislike the sticky feel of sun screen.

Having sweltered all day I am sitting listening to the thunder under grey skies praying that it will actually rain so I do not have to water my parched garden

Estrellita Tue 26-May-26 20:25:12

Housework.

I have still not collected my parcel as it keeps raining on and off. I wouldn’t mind a bit of rain but don’t want to get caught in a full on thunderstorm.

Please send some rain here! 🙏

Great excuse to avoid housework. I am comfortable couched with a cold drink and on Gransnet for now. My cat doesn’t know what to do with himself.

🐱Poor thing. Make it a couple of
little dens in l shady, cool areas inside and inside. Use a fan if poss as well to cool it down.

Nothing! I love it!!Been sitting out reading my book. Loving every minute of it

RosesandLilac Tue 26-May-26 18:47:18

I couldn’t do nothing today 😬, had an optician appointment in town that went well apart from being told I have a cataract in my left eye that’ll need doing in a year or two.
Then home and housework before going to the hospital for the dermatologist to excise a basal cell carcinoma from my left shin.
I have 10 stitches and an impressive dressing! It’s still numb from the local anaesthetic….
It was unbearably hot here at home, we’ve had some thunder and a few drops of rain.
DH has gone to the fish and chip van 😋

Bazza Tue 26-May-26 17:57:17

Everything.
