I’ll be visiting family on the south coast so a little paddle in the sea and plenty of ice cream 🍨 😀

Digging out rampant bkuebells, scarifying a 30' strip of lawn then forking it to try aerating it. Also sanding down wooden garden furniture before applying preservation. Cutting the back lawn. Knitting a twiddle muff for hospital transport. Should have the weekend filled.

I have been on gardening watering duty for son who is away on holiday. What I had hoped would be a single visit has become a daily necessity because of the heat and quite a few newly-planted things in his garden!
But he does a lot for us too, so I really can't complain. ☺

I live in a hot flat! Not nice in extreme heat. My thyroid doesn't cope with it either. Trying not to put a dampener on it but survival is blinds and windows completely closed. I hate it as I feel like I'm in darkness when I'm at home. Soo really looking forward to later in the week as temperature drops.

It was 34 in the shade here today (East Midlands) so did very little this afternoon having potted on some plants this morning. Did do some prep for taking up holiday trousers I bought online - tacked up the hems ready to get the sewing machine out later in the week. Granddog has arrived as we are taking our turn to have her as her family are on holiday. She is not keen on eating the food in her bowl - she is just too hot I think. She was lying about in the garden and didn’t even stir when a cat wandered through.

Lovely weekend, bbq with old friends on Sunday. My friend who hosted pushed the boat out as usual, cooking lots of delicious and unusual recipes she wanted to try. She’s a keen cook. I felt guilty because I had been about to invite everyone to us but she beat me to it and I felt relieved. My guilt was assuaged by all the other women expressing similar sentiments. On Monday we had DS2 and his partner together with the Ukrainian family we hosted 4 years ago and are still in regular contact with. It is marvellous to see them doing well, the boy is now at university and on a year exchange to Japan! Mum is a teacher but working as a teaching assistant here which she finds frustrating. The girl is year 10, has won loads of awards at school and is taking some GCSE’s early. She was 11 when she came and now towers over me- she calls us her UK grandparents. I wonder what the future will hold for them, their home town where the father and grandmother still live was hit by a drone attack last week. The mum often says that she wouldn’t have believed it if someone had told her 5 years ago that she’d be living in the north of England.

Tidying up my son's garden. Spent more time telling him what to do that actually doing anything myself in this heat.

Secondwind

Not what was planned at all!
Fell in the road walking to the car and now nursing cuts and grazes on arms and legs as I was wearing a short-sleeved dress, a cut forehead, a black eye and bruised ribs.
Talk about things changing in the blink of an eye! Never mind. Nothing broken.

Oh I hope you re not too sore, and heal quickly 🌼

This morning I did under planting for a tree in a pot on the patio. Did some more painting of my shed. Cut a pyracantha right down and treated so I can redesign the area.
I had planned to make a new recipe with chicken and lemon but couldn’t be bothered as I am hot and weary. Cooked the chicken in the oven so I wouldn’t have to stand over a hot stove and had it with some salad veg and a well earned gin 🍹

OH is driving daughter to the station as we speak.

I am melting and sitting in the lounge with a fan full blast. I’ve also got a little hand held one.

We sat outside for an hour or so for our barbecue, I have to say it was delicious. Sausages, beef kebabs and prawns. All served with rice salad, green salad and bread. We finished with the iced chocolate soufflés I made the other day.

Milo and Ripley, who are long haired, are finding the heat difficult,

sazz1 Mon 25-May-26 16:04:16

Home alone with the dogs as they went swimming in the sea this early morning. It is 26C atm and I've just finished making up beds for visitors coming tonight. Felt dizzy upstairs so went in the shower and now sat infront of the fan.
Don't do well in heat over 24C and its forecast for 31C tomorrow will probably sit in a cool bath as long as I can lol

Rocketstop2 Mon 25-May-26 16:02:21

My phone reckons it's now 31c.Too hot to be out right now.
Got curtains and windows shut which is awful, but necessary.
Otherwise , doing nothing !!

A weekend at a rather posh (!) Hotel for DH birthday then home on Monday and all the family round for supper (not barbeque) in the garden.

Luckygirl3 Mon 25-May-26 15:03:59

I am indoors. For various reasons it is hard for me to muster much energy at the best of times just now and the heat is a step too far, although I love it. Last evening I was sitting in the garden listening to the birds in the cool of the evening at 10pm. I will do the same tonight.

In the meantime my National Theatre at Home sub runs out on Thursday so I will grab a play to watch with the fan on and big cool drink at my side.

Peaseblossom Mon 25-May-26 14:57:57

I think the advice when the weather is very hot is to keep all windows and curtains closed to keep the heat out and then open them in the evening when it's cooler to let the air in.

Peaseblossom Mon 25-May-26 14:55:39

My daughter and her partner who live in London were supposed to be coming to mine in Berkshire, but there's been so much trouble on the trains. They were supposed to get here at 1 o'clock and now it's going to be about 4 o'clock so that has totally ruined our day. We were supposed to be going to my other daughter's, so now we're not going and we're just going there for tea on Wednesday. I'm so angry and disappointed and my daughter and her partner are sick of the travelling and being boiling hot. Not good weather for travelling. They will be staying at mine until Thursday, but they will be working while they're here.
