Have you ever 'googled' yourself?

Just tried this - and am astonished as to how much information there is about me on there - even photos and my birth date.
Okay, I am someone who joins organisations and have sat, and still do sit on several committees......but even so.......!!!

Not me personally though there is a well known song about someone with the same name.
Clearly I am not a memorable person and have no achievements worth anyone making a note of.

I'm very common, now, apparently 😁

However, I was more unusual (refined?) before I married.

Going through life with very common first and last names means you always feel anonymous. If I heard or read my name anywhere I would ignore it as it could mean anyone.
John Smith used to be the most common British name but I’ve never met one. I’m going away to Google John Smith, I shan’t bother with myself.

Mollygo

My goodness me I’m famous in so many different categories and life skills, all of whom look younger and seem much better paid than me. None of whom is actually me.
I’m astonished about how much personal information, age, family, location, though not actual address.
I’m quite relieved to be anonymous.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I am so surprised. Just googled, and although I have a very unusual surname, there is another one of me out there! Interestingly it also shows a donation I made to a Justgiving fundraiser too.

Apparently I'm a Nigerian/American professional basketball player 😂. I was hopeless at netball in school so perhaps it's not me.

Why does it bother people if they have an online profile?

I have had one for years, all to do with my outside interests, although it is beginning to fade. it has never cause me any jarm, nor done me any good.

Purplepixie Tue 19-May-26 16:32:23

Nothing on me and I want it to stay that way!

springishere Tue 19-May-26 16:31:16

I have just done it. Apparently I died in 2020.

Menopauselbitch Tue 19-May-26 16:26:43

I googled myself and there’s someone with the same name that’s committed benefit fraud amongst other things.

FranP Tue 19-May-26 15:28:20

Found a linked in profile that I did not create, but is clearly about me. So thank you for this. Now I need to work out how to get rid

BlueBelle Tue 19-May-26 15:27:22

Yes I have, and yes I am, a few newspaper articles ( no not crimes 🤣) from work days and the charity work I did

Grammaretto Tue 19-May-26 15:18:47

All my DC can be found by googling though you need to know something about them first. Same with me. I have a Facebook page which is easy to find.

It's the way of the world I'm afraid.

MissAdventure Tue 19-May-26 15:15:48

No, but i have met someone who had googled me
Very disconcerting.

cornergran Tue 19-May-26 15:12:37

Just had a look. One mention for a directorship I no longer hold. All my working life professional directory entries have faded away now although I do still get emails from organisations assuming I’m still working.

MrsSquirrel Tue 19-May-26 15:12:09

Googling myself most of the results that come up are about a law professor in New York. Then there is a midwife in Maryland. The only one about the real me is my listing on Companies House from when I was a director of a company.

Dreadwitch Tue 19-May-26 15:11:05

I can't be found on Google, I value my privacy so make sure the info isn't out there.

Nicksmrs46 Tue 19-May-26 14:53:30

I googled me but no , I’m not there personally although about 15 ladies with my name …. I’m obviously safe from prying eyes!!😁

MT62 Tue 19-May-26 14:50:26

Nope. I am not interesting enough 🤣

Oldnproud Tue 19-May-26 14:44:06

I have found myself.
However, there is a much more successful person with exactly the same name. Given the field she works in, it is quite possible that anyone from my past who decides to Google me might well thing I have done far better than I really have.

25Avalon Tue 19-May-26 14:38:50

Dd has a very unusual name. To my surprise when I googled it I found another with exactly the same spelling but in another country and another time. Makes you think.

Chaitriona Tue 19-May-26 14:35:42

Have just tried. I have an unique name. Things that used to be there have vanished. But there are more recent things. I think it is because so many organizations are now on line, newsletters, charities and so on. A1 is quite flattering. It makes me sound like a very active and achieving person. It is illusion. But at least it is not derogatory. I don't worry about it. I don't suppose it will make much difference in any practical way to my life. I doubt if many or any people Google me..

suelld Tue 19-May-26 14:25:22

I run a small business, so am happy to be there, but another lady with the same name is an American author, so she turns up in the prime spot

AGAA4 Tue 19-May-26 14:10:46

Several people with my name but the only one that is me is on Companies House when I was a director.
