Do you wear a wedding ring?

I am widowed buy I wear my wedding ring so interested strangers think I am claimed. When I lost my husband, I put his wedding ring on a necklace aroynd my neck as I cried. I dont like jewelry so I have put it all away, now. If you are not married, do you wear special jewelry for comfort or strength? Did you wear a ring every day, if you were married? If widowed, did it change fingers, other hand, or get put in a drawer? Was it sold or given to a relative? (Just bored and wanting some stories).

I have lots of rings which I never wear, but I still wear my wedding ring. At one point I had to have it enlarged, but now my fingers have shrunk a bit so it is a bit big, especially on cold days.
On special occasions I also wear, on my right hand, my late husband’s wedding ring, held in place by a dress ring which I bought, with his approval, to celebrate the end of lockdown.

Never worn one, never had a problem.

Yes, I don't remove my small gold wedding ring.

I don't have other rings, don't suit me.

I had my wedding ring cut off recently as it was too tight and causing pain in that finger. The jeweller said I should allow three months for the finger to recover before choosing a replacement. Sure enough the ring indentation is still very noticeable and the knuckle swollen even after three weeks.

I always wear my wedding ring and often my engagement ring and my mother's engagement ring too which is like an eternity ring.

Am I the only one whose fingers have got thinner even though I haven't? Really should have my rings made smaller.

Unfortunately due to arthritic fingers I can no longer wear my wedding ring or any other rings. I don’t wear earrings either as I seem to get sore ears whenever I put them in. I’m not really into jewellery but would like to wear my wedding ring. Occasionally wear a bracelet and necklace.

I've worn my wedding ring from day 1 of receiving it. It's part of me smile

I’d recommend you take pictures of yourself wearing anything precious that’s insured, if you don’t have the receipts or valuations. Years ago, I had difficulty proving ownership of something I’d had stolen, until a friend found an old photograph where my item was clearly visible. I’ve done this and of course there’s a timeline.

I didn't always wear my wedding ring even when I was married!
My daughter had it widened and now it is her wedding ring which I think is lovely.

I do wear my mum's gold chain which she never took off, and I never take it off either. I like to think it will be passed down when I'm gone...

I've worn a wedding ring for about 10 minutes in my whole life .

Been married twice so a ring was slipped on during ceremonies then slipped off shortly after.

I really dislike wearing rings and am permanently ring free

It will always be a wedding ring in my world. A band is something that gets me tapping my feet.
I still wear a wedding ring that DH bought me to replace the original which had to be cut off after a bee sting caused my finger to swell and turn purple.
My engagement ring is now too small so I mix and match other rings to wear on that finger.

Yes I do, next to an eternity ring, it rarely comes off.

Freda Payne sang about a band of gold in 1970.

All is left of the dreams I hold is a band of gold, and memories of what love could be…

Goodness Witzend. Calm down.
I take it you’re referring to me?

Just googled and it seems either band or ring is acceptable - even De Beers use ‘band’.
I tend to think of a band as plain, whereas a ring is fancy with gemstones.
It’s just a word anyway and language evolves constantly.

Cannot wear either wedding or engagement rings. The non-malignant growth I have has caused my fingers to get much too big - so cannot get either of those even on my little fingers. Sit in jewellery box now.

Witzend Fri 15-May-26 08:53:02

Not at the moment, since it got a bit tight - I need to get around to having it made a bit bigger. But it IS a ring, not a band! When did so many people start talking about wedding ‘bands’? They were always rings until relatively recently.
‘With this ring, I thee wed…’

Have you seen those rubberish rings? Electricians wear them.

A couple of our sons wear them.

Macaydia Fri 15-May-26 07:47:35

-- silicone. For safety.

I’ve never taken my wedding ring off, we married in December 1970. It would need to be cut off now.

tanith Fri 15-May-26 07:42:26

I don’t like jewellery and don’t wear any now including rings my wedding ring was getting difficult to take off so I left it off after my husband died. I gave my engagement ring to my eldest daughter years ago. I still have about a dozen rings which my family can do as they please when I’m gone. The rest of my jewellery can go to various family members.

I am fortunate, DH is still by my side.

I do not always wear my wedding ring, I take it and others off, put them away and forget to put them on.

DH is often asking are we not married today ? when he notices.

Georgesgran Fri 15-May-26 07:34:22

I love a bit of bling, wear it every day, but I’m not sentimental over jewellery. I was married in ‘72, with a wide yellow gold band. Later, I changed it for a much narrower yellow gold ring, then I decided I liked white metal better and got a very narrow platinum band, like a curtain ring! Same with ‘engagement’ rings - I started with a diamond and sapphire cluster, moved on to a diamond trilogy, then after we were burgled, I bought a pear shaped emerald and diamond ring. Widowed, I still wear my latest wedding ring - a diamond set band I bought in ‘05 before a holiday in Egypt. Sometimes, I do forget to slip it back on after I’ve cleaned it.
I was 75 in March and treated myself to a pair of diamond stud earrings - I think DH would have approved.

Macaydia Fri 15-May-26 07:34:10

I take my ring off if I am doing certain recipes.

Greyduster Fri 15-May-26 07:34:06

Mine would have to be cut off. I’m more than happy for it to stay where it is.
