Do you wear a wedding ring?

I am widowed buy I wear my wedding ring so interested strangers think I am claimed. When I lost my husband, I put his wedding ring on a necklace aroynd my neck as I cried. I dont like jewelry so I have put it all away, now. If you are not married, do you wear special jewelry for comfort or strength? Did you wear a ring every day, if you were married? If widowed, did it change fingers, other hand, or get put in a drawer? Was it sold or given to a relative? (Just bored and wanting some stories).

I’ve always worn my wedding ring 56 years now. Did take it off a few years ago as my husband bought me an eternity ring which I now wear all the time below the wedding ring. Take my engagement ring off at night and when U clean, garden etc.

I only take my rings off when I am gardening. I've never thought of myself as wearing lots of rings, but I have 6 that I always wear since I was given them. Wedding, engagement and eternity. A Celtic knot band DH gave me for my 60th birthday, my mother in law's engagement ring which she left me and a sapphire and diamond ring that my great aunt left to my mum but mum's fingers we're too arthritic so she gave it to me. I don't see them as decorative but they all mean a great deal to me.

Yes I always wear my wedding ring, a symbol of the love that DH and I shared.
The only time I have taken it off is when I had a severe allergic reaction underneath it just after we.married, but luckily it cleared up never to return.

Yes, I still wear a wedding ring in my widowhood.
I’m not remotely interested in another man, although friendship would be pleasant. Besides, at my age, a man would probably be looking for a nurse!

That's me as well even if I could get it off I won't.
I had my husbands ring made into a solid gold small heart I wear on special occasions, I don't usually take it on holidays or any valuable jewellry but, decided he's walking the Camino Ingles with me tomorrow!

Never worn my wedding ring at night, and often don’t in the day, certainly if I’m just at home.

Usually put it on if going out.

It’s a wide 70’s ring, very fashionable when we married nearly 54 years ago, but if I were getting married now, I would choose a thin band and wear it all the time.

Wide bands can be uncomfortable as your fingers age, have had to have mine stretched.

Me too! I take my ring off at night like you. When my fiancé and I went to buy my engagement and wedding ring in 1975, I chose a matching set of wide band and diamond solitaire set into a white gold daisy. However when I tried them on together I couldn’t bend my finger so I had the wedding ring cut in half.

GrannyGravy13 - now you've awakened a memory and the whole song is on replay!

And yes, I wear my band of gold - a slim one moulded at one point with an arc so that my engagement ring nestles into it - every day and night. For baking the engagement ring comes off but that's not often.

After my husband died I wore my wedding ring but took it off when I met someone else ... as a sign that I was ready to start dating

pen50 Sun 17-May-26 16:34:13

My first husband died, I remarried and wear a new ring, my daughter used my old ring as her wedding ring.

I have never had a wedding ring though I have been married and divorced. Talking of wedding rings my mother had hers stolen while she was in hospital. There are some wicked people out there. I recommend leaving yours at home if you have to go into hospital.

I sold mine when things were very tight!

Maple123 Sun 17-May-26 16:03:19

My husband and I both wear wedding rings. However my engagement ring was damaged so I wore my mother’s engagement ring which has now become thin and worn so I’ve sold them and I’m having my grandmothers ring refurbished. I’ve always loved it. She was married in 1920.
I recently sold some old gold items some broken pieces and an earring and got £500 for them. Better than storing them in a box.

I’ve worn my wedding ring for 60 years now , only removed it towards the end of my first pregnancy when fingers were swollen. The intricate design has worn smooth over the years but still love it !

I have always worn my wedding ring whenever I leave the house but then take it off again once indoors, a habit formed over 55 years ago. That hasn't changed at all since my DH passed away, I still consider myself married to him and am not interested in meeting anyone else.

I love rings, I think I follow my paternal grandmother who always bought nice rings. I wear my wedding ring and eternity ring each day. Sometimes in the night my fingers swell and I have to take them off quickly, they always go back on when I get up. My engagement ring only comes out when we go out and that's when I wear my late Mums engagement ring as well. As for earrings, I have a few dressy pairs but tend to switch between just 2 pairs of a day.

I’ve always worn my wedding and engagement rings. They have been adjusted to accommodate the changes of the years though. I’ve been widowed for five years, but it’s never occurred to me to take my rings off. I know people who only wear their engagement rings if they’re going out, but I’ve always worn mine. This isn’t for sentimental reasons, it’s because I like my engagement ring, and can’t see the point of it sitting in a drawer. I take it off if I’m ‘ hand mixing ‘ when baking. Not many occasions to wear other jewellery nowadays, though I rarely go out without wearing ear rings - just small ones. In the last couple of years, I’ve made three trips to a shop which buys gold, to off load bits and pieces which belonged to my mother, and also odds and ends of my own, which no one will want. I made over £1100, to my surprise.

My husband and I both wear wedding rings (42 years).

Lollipop1 Sun 17-May-26 14:43:52

Still married after 56 years. I never ever leave the house without earings and every day a different pair depending on my outfit.
I love my rings but only wear them if it's a special occasion. They twist round, my engagement 💍 sticks out and my eternity 💍 ends up with the diamonds rubbing against the steering wheel. I don't want to hurt them. I lost a stone in Sainsburys once. Maybe that's why I'm careful.

I still don't know what to do with my nans engagement ring. My grandfather sexually abused me as a child and I just can't wear it.

This is not quite the answer to your question Macaydia but this memory came into my head whilst I was reading Gransnet answers! Fifty five years ago when I was newly married I made a pie with short crust pastry. I was VERY much a novice - and was following the instructions exactly - so I removed my engagement ring to do the rubbing in etc. I just put it on the work surface. I cut off the pastry around the dish just onto the surface - then somehow knocked it off - along with my ring. In a nano second our five month old Labrador gobbled it up - along with the ring! Panic all round! I rang the vet ( you could do those things easily back in the day) and he said she was unlikely to come to any harm with the pastry - but she might be sick and vomit up the ring or we should follow her around and check all poos! My husband did this and lo and behold - the ring eventually appeared in a poo!! I’ve worn my wedding ring since we were married and I wear the aforesaid engagement ring most days but not at night. Never forgotten that 😂!!

sandelf Sun 17-May-26 14:15:10

No - wore one for 31 years. I'd put him on a pedestal - and he had not done the same... Stopped being a doormat. After a while I tried it again - my finger burnt. The mind is a strange thing.

Janetashbolt Sun 17-May-26 14:09:22

been married 53 years neither of us have ever worn a wedding ring

Jane43 Sun 17-May-26 14:08:58

I always wear my wedding ring and my engagement ring which is now wafer thin at the back after 62 years on my finger.

Alison333 Sun 17-May-26 14:03:18

My wedding ring and eternity ring are both stuck to me permanently due to arthritic bony fingers.

Does anyone else have any tips on how to clean them?!
