When I was a child life was full of small treats, because there were so many things we didn't have.
Sweets were a treat, as they were on ration. A glass of suash with lunch instead of water, the bottle lived on the top shelf in the pantry and came down for birthdays and other celebrations. Soft fruit. The strawberry season was short and the fruit were expensive, we might have them 2 or 3 times over a summer, likewise ice cream, perhaps one or two over a weeks holiday, ata home, occasionally for Sunday lunch in the summer only.
The thing was, there were so many of these small treats, that with luck one would get one every week on average. Now we have most things all the time, so we have to create our own treats.
I love hummous, if it is in the house it lasts only a few hours, so to stop me bingeing on it, I only eat it when I visit DS and family and they always get it in for my visits. It is a real treat.
