Fitted sheets

Is there sonething going on, sheet wise?
Mine just do not seem to fit anymore.
They're either all baggy, or i have to fight to get the corners on, and they pull the mattress into a pringle shape.

I have been wrestling all day to get a clean sheet on my bed.

Oh, thank you. smile

Asda Living have great fitted sheets and they are deeper so stay put.

They are "recylced or repurposed" by the Salvation Army. So says AI in a very speedy answer. That's useful to know. I wonder if the Salvation Army would take them directly and the bedding and towels as well.

HelterSkelter1 Sun 10-May-26 20:51:13

I wonder that as well. Duvets are so expensive to launder or clean and they would need to be clean before Dunelm passed them on if they were going to be used as duvets and not just disposed of. I must Google the question and see if AI comes up with answer.

Thanks HelterSkelter. That's helpful. I'll need to do it gradually because noone can cope with huge amounts, at least our charity shops can't.

I wonder what Dunelm did with the old stuff? SueDomin

Dunelm take used bedding, even duvets and pillows. Our Tesco also accepts them but I don’t know if that’s a country-wide thing.

Is there not extra material on the mattress, though, if you size up?

Depends. Don’t go for extra deep sheets if your mattress is normal depth.
Mine is 38 + I have a pander topper so I like the extra depth.
I just wash & dry in my heat pump tumble dryer & don’t bother to iron as there doesn’t seem to be creases if I get it out straight away.

Grammaretto. There must be lots of people who would welcome sheets etc, but finding them is difficult. Charity shops do have them for sale. I have taken mine there. And have given a friend with horses and DD for her dog drying some old towels.

I had single size plain coloured duvet covers , duvets and sheets and managed to pass them on to friends whose had GC. They were all in good condition, but the towels were more worn. Fine for dogs and horses.
Would a local church welcome sheets etc for parishioners who are short of cash. Could you ring your local church and ask? A shame for good things to go to waste

MissAdventure Sun 10-May-26 16:57:38

I'll probably take my old sheets to a charity shop.
Or, I'll check them over, and decide they're not worth it.

MissAdventure Sun 10-May-26 16:55:44

Sorry, two 'I's.
Fingers are playing up, along with eyes.
People will just have to work out what i mean. smile

Grammaretto Sun 10-May-26 16:55:21

What do you do with sheets you no longer use? Such a lot of material but just clog up the linen cupboard.

Towels too. I have far more than I'll ever need.

I don't mind if fitted sheets are a bit big as you can just tuck them in. Too small on the other hand is tricky.

MissAdventure Sun 10-May-26 16:53:58

I I do hope not.
I haven't the energy!

Read this as 'Is there not extra marital on the mattress'.....😳

MissAdventure Sun 10-May-26 16:35:43

I'm still checking out fitted sheets.
Its a whole new world!
Percale, wicking, full, emperor, i think i may have found one to try, but they havent got it in pink, whoch os what i want. (And cheap!)

I haven’t found it so. I just pull the corners right under and any extra fabric can be tucked under the mattress.

It also means I don’t have to mess about looking at labels to see which are the double and which are the King size sheets. One for all!

Witzend Sat 09-May-26 15:32:11

I had to buy deeper fitted sheets after buying a king size mattress topper that wasn’t even very thick. And another for the double sofa bed the Gdcs share, since it’s padded with both a thickish quilted cover, and a thinly quilted waterproof one.

The old fitted sheet did still - just about - fit but it was a battle for dh each time. I just couldn’t manage it.

Like Tom Kitten in the Roly-Poly Pudding, Welbek? grin

I have started buying deep fitted sheets in the next size up for my beds. Doesn’t work for singles, but for doubles get king-size and so on.

Way to go 👍🏻
Although a lot of grans might find super king sheets hard to work with.
I find them easier than yanking sheets to make them fit over the corners

Oreo Sat 09-May-26 13:27:44

Fitted sheets are the work of the Devil👹 so I only use flat sheets at home.
At work, in my care home we use fitted simply because they stay taut on the bed.Several residents have beds that look like there’s been a fight in them but most stay smooth.

dragonfly46 Sat 09-May-26 13:23:48

I find duvet covers are often a little too big which is annoying as I end up with no duvet at the head end. Dunelm are particularly bad for this.

MissAdventure Sat 09-May-26 13:08:13

I'll have to get my tape measure out, but I'm pretty sure its just a normal sized mattress in terms of depth.
Perhaps it's on the brink of being deep?
I don't know.

If anyone hss sheets that glide on, smooth out, and are reasonably priced I'd be grateful for suggestions, please.

Dunhelm, maybe?

My bamboo ones do (By CUBE Home of London) online. I have quite a deep mattress with a topper though - I wonder if that's MissAdventure's problem - ie the depth of the mattress - I know I've had problems with this in the past before I got this new bed.
