Hi, has anyone tried the widely advertised (by "celebrity" women) collagen supplements? Im waking most days now with aching everything, hips, knees, wrists, ankle, feet etc. I have arthritis bit it is getting much worse so I wondered if anyone "real" knows if it works 😉

High strength Turmeric with curcumin made a noticeable difference to my joint pain after a couple of months.

Tooyoungtobeagrandma - I have bone-on-bone in my knee and awaiting partial knee replacement. When the surgeon asked what pain relief I took I told her organic bovine collagen powder and organic magnesium 8 in 1 - both from amazon. She was amazed that I was managing the pain in that way - done because I didn't want any analgesic tablets full of bulking agents that play havoc with my stomach and bowel. I add the collagen and magnesium to my morning smoothie. I would hate to think what the pain would be like without them. Agree also that nails and hair are vastly improved by the collagen but not noticed any improvement in the wrinkles - that said, it was joint pain that prompted me to take this and I'm glad I did.

I took collagen for my joints, mentioned it to my doctor and She told me to stop straight away, I have HCM a heart condition and it interferes with it

jakuss

Dont waste your money,, I am a scientist and all options are useless, and that includes anti wrinkle cream, a market worth billions

Collagen creme is effective for a short while. I use it when going out somewhere

Thanks petra. Very interesting -
Though I'm vegetarian so never considered collagen anyway!
I'd not listened to "Sliced Bread" for a while and also found an interesting thing about vibration plates!

Hyaluronic acid capsules are better the collagen but good ones from British Supplements.

I have been taking Natures Plus Collagen powder for 6 months now, initially because of thinning hair and weak nails. It dissolves easily in my morning coffee, taste isn’t bad. Starting now to see an improvement in nails and hair but unexpectedly to me after only a couple of months I no longer have the joint stiffness and muscle aches I thought I just had to accept as part of aging. Good luck, hope you find something that helps you.

Apparently turmeric goes straight through unless it has a ‘binding agent’ in the mix so a lot of the tablets bought in health shops etc are useless and a waste of money . The ones
I ve sent for have a binding agent and black pepper so once they arrive !!! I ll hopefully be able to tell you more

I had this problem too knspol. It made me feel nauseous and gassy. I gave it away.

Regarding your arthritis, my brother started taking turmeric and says he has seen a huge improvement with arthritic pain . I tried it but unfortunately it has me running to the loo 😒.
I guess we are all different .

A friend who’s a nutritionist says that collagen is a waste of money .

My Osteopath advised me to take Tumeric with black pepper, to soon to tell if it works

Been researching collagen for months hoping to reduce effects of arthritis creeping in. Read scientific and medical reports and concluded not to bother with marine, bovine or hydrolised. Certainly not recommended by NHS. The loss of collagen in the body starts in the 20s. Not being scientific just wondered how long it would take to restore body back to anything like a younger version of self taking a tablet or spoonful of powder a day. Just going to save my money.

I’ve started to take bovine collagen to help my creaky joints!!! I’m hoping it helps!

Jodieb Sat 09-May-26 16:50:27

I have read you shouldn't take if you are on Losartan.
Any scientists care to comment? 😁

I’m not convinced that collagen, especially collagen alone, is the best supplement for arthritis? Customer reviews on the website of the UK company I buy all my “clean” supplements from suggest that things like Boswellia, MSM and maybe turmeric are better. Don’t expect immediate results, but you may be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks one and all. Whilst my nails are not fairing so well my hair is still thick and wavy and my skin (according to a skin consultant) is is excellent condition. Mind you not sure he noticed the wrinkles and possibly needed new glasses 🤔I have arthritis which is beginning to get more painful especially at night so was asking in case anyone had tried the product. Im not one for believing so called celebrities hence asking on here. So Ill save my £s and spend them on a sunny holiday as the sun/heating always lightens my mood and gives some relief to my aches and pains 😉

Collagen is the same stuff as gelatine. The latter is miles cheaper bought as a food ingredient. Make your own jelly with whatever extra ingredients you fancy.

missdeke Sat 09-May-26 16:17:50

I would suggest maybe you read some test studies before you decide, this may help www.bbc.co.uk/future/article/20250214-do-collagen-supplements-work. On the other hand it may confuse you even more, some studies show no real benefit, some say anecdotal evidence only and some say definitively that it works. Good Luck.

A dermatologist would say that the love moisturiser because it benefits the skin. I have to agree with the dermatologist though I disagree with paying a fortune for moisturiser. As for collagen, I’m sure I recently heard from a TV doctor that it does not help with wrinkles but it does help with keeping skin plumped up. So, you pay your money and take your choice 🤷‍♀️

I tried the Elevate collagen but the flavours were awful. Plus it’s almost impossible to mix the powder smoothly

knspol Sat 09-May-26 15:33:11

Did buy some marine collagen a few months ago, tried it once mixed in a warm drink and I felt really nauseous so have not continued. Wanted it for nails and hair improvement.

Nomadica Sat 09-May-26 15:25:15

Collagen breaks down into amino acids in the digestion process and is used by your body as it needs it.
