It’s 15 years ago today that Gransnet went ‘live’.

Where are the competitions?
I think I joined about three years ago, I came over from MN and still look at their threads now and then.
I’ve found all the info very good here, both household stuff and health, it’s good to share.Books also.

I also joined just after the start. I won some lovely books in the competitions. My eldest grandchild is now 26. (We have eight.)
Happy Birthday Gransnet!

Happy Birthday Gransnet! 🎂 🥂 🎈

I joined just after the start in 2011, having heard about it on MN and thinking that it sounded more like my sort of thing. Sometimes I get fed up with it and don't read or post for a while (not that anyone has ever noticed!) but on the whole I've found it interesting and helpful.

Here's to the next 15 years!

Is anyone any good at searching stuff?

I wonder if it is possible to find the first post/thread?

kittylester Tue 05-May-26 13:35:15

I miss the competitions. I won some great stuff.

And, the on-line chats with authors etc.

I joined sometime in 2016, how do I find out exactly when?

I don’t post often, apart from Wordle.

Happy Birthday Gransnet.
I joined in 2013 as the editor of one of the ill fated local pages.
I've met some lovely people online and IRL.
I miss the book club, competitions and product testing of the pre Covid days.

Happy Birthday Gransnet. I joined 12 years ago and was shot down in flames for my first post.

It didn't put me off but I am more careful now.

Happy birthday Gransnet!!!

I joined in 2014 when my first DGS was on the way. I can't remember how I heard about it, possible on on Woman's Hour but was glad of the chance to connect with people in the UK in a similar situation to me and I hoped that I could maybe sometimes contribute an expat or a German angle to some topics.

I remember the search for greatnan and the sad loss of Phoenix/Rachel and the banishment of Jingles

I did meet up with some other Gransnetters once when I was home in The Cambridge area. The strange thing was that the lady who had organised the meet up didn't turn up and we found out that she had suddenly left the site and blocked PMs in the morning - just a couple of hours before we met!!!I

Let's hope we can keep it going.

Happy Birthday Gransnet!

I joined in January 2017 immediately got 'slapped down' by a regular poster, oh well you can't win 'em all grin

petra. Yes very hurtful at times but I suppose it takes all sorts to make a forum otherwise it would be boring.

Happy birthday to Gransnet. 🎂

I joined up very soon after it began and am grateful for the real life friends I have made through it, one of whom I met at the very first Glasgow meet up.
Come to think of it, that may have been the first Gransnet meet up.

There have been highs and lows and some sad losses along the road but I’m glad Gransnet exists.

aggie

I joined during the hunt for poor Greatnan ,
I avoid politics, probably because abuse I can’t understand it 🤔

That certainly was an emotional and apprehensive time, wasn’t it?

That’s why we had our run in She was being hurtful to someone and I called her out on it.

I love GN and had no idea that 'we' shared the same birthday smile.

Happy Birthday GN xx Thank you all, it’s been interesting, sad and fun.

I’m not sure when I joined, can I check??

JenniferEccles Tue 05-May-26 11:37:27

What I have mainly noticed is that there is a great deal of kindness on GN.

People post with a particular problem on a wide variety of issues and invariably the responses from other members are supportive, helpful and kind.

Obviously there are some exceptions but I would say they are in the minority.

There have also been a number of hoaxes over the years (alpacas anyone?) which have caused annoyance at the distress caused, but they are usually caught out sooner or later.

Nothing but praise for Gransnet so Happy Birthday!
I joined about eight years ago and have seen posters come and go. Living alone it's good to share thoughts with others.

M0nica Tue 05-May-26 11:16:13

Happy birthday. Like WW3, I joined in the first few months after reading ana rticle about it in The Observer.

I changed my name after about 2 years and came offit, although Id id not sign out for about 6 months during COVID. the constant doom saying and nastiness put me off.

Bellasnana Tue 05-May-26 11:10:29

Happy Birthday Gransnet 🥳

I joined around the time Greatnan had gone missing.😞

Not a joiner of anything usually I am not sure what made me dive in but I’m glad I did. So many friendships made, both in person and as ‘pen pals’, not to mention several wonderful cruises thanks to Galen.

Most definitely helped me through the loss of DH as well as a lot of understanding about having children and grandchildren living far away.

Long may we continue!

JenniferEccles Tue 05-May-26 11:09:37

I can remember when I joined as it was in 2016, just before the referendum to leave the EU.
I discovered the News and Politics section and expected to see some support for the Leave campaign (or at least some differing opinions) but it soon became apparent that the posters were predominantly Remain.

I was especially delighted and surprised then when it was announced on the Friday that the Leave vote had won!
