I thought we'd be more space age by the time I had children so I wanted Apollo for a boy and Cassiopeia... That isn't what I called them of course! Though my daughter has called her daughter Cassie 😊

I was going to have a girl and boy and call them Jane and Simon. I had 3 boys and didn’t use the name Simon ☺️

I never thought past whatever age I was. I played out, hide and seek, rounders, picnics with a bottle of water snd jam sandwiches. Never thought about children or getting married.

I never gave it any thought. Never gave marriage any thought either - it wasn’t on my agenda at all - until DH turned up. And I certainly didn’t see myself as anyone’s mother. However, needs must and my son is named for an English king, a saint and DH; my daughter has her grandmother’s second Christian name.

I didn't think too much about children when I was growing up, I preferred cats and dogsshock The names I liked, more girl related and what I would have preferred as my name changed constantly.

I just wanted a pony 🐎

You and me both! I had many fictitious ponies and horses, but never a fictitious child!

I never imagined myself with children.

Neither did I. I can't say the idea of baby names ever crossed my mind.

I had an ever changing list of names for imagined daughters. I never forgave my parents for giving me a boring name that most families had named their daughter too, so I changed it.

Jeremy for boy and Petronella for a girl. I don’t like either of them now. We only had girls but Petronella was not on the radar at all.

When I was young I thought if I ever have a son I wanted to call him Cory as I loved the Flowers in the Attic books. I’ve never been able to use that name be it my boys or dog or cat. My DH really didn’t like it.

I used to know a family where the parents hoped for a boy and had boys named picked out, the first was a girl and the chosen name had been Joseph so she became Josephine.
This happened four more times, with a boys name chosen and a girl being named the feminine version, think Edwin , Edwina, I won’t use the names as it may identify.
The last pregnancy just a girls name was chosen and it was another girl.
They were a lovely happy family.

My last child was Alexander until she arrived 😀

I was always very interested in names, but never thought about having children until I had them. Both mine were boys, and I only liked girls’ names, so it was difficult, but I think the names we chose were good.

I never fantasised about weddings either. I only thought about being a ballerina. Didn’t happen.

An only child-I wanted to have at least four preferably six children .
But I didn't think of names for them .

When I was pregnant I chose a name for a boy and a girl and gave birth to a girl .
I'd chosen a very unusual name for her .
The family were against my choice and repeated stories about our relatives having far too many unusual names and a traditional Victorian name was chosen .
The name is pretty ,but rather popular.
When she was younger it suited her .
But as she hit her teens I don't think that the name suited her at all and my original choice would have .

We traced our family back to 1737 and the names Clara or Clarissa featured in every generation, my GM was Clara and my M was Clarissa , however she didn’t like her name and I missed out on it as did my D.
When my GD was born it came as surprise to everyone including my Son in Law (now ex) that although it wasn’t used his M was Clarissa so my GD has it as a middle name.

Anna was a name I loved but never used. Tamzin was a name liked by my ex. We never used it as we had a son.

M0nica Tue 21-Apr-26 08:55:55

I never really thought about it, but my female line has a name running through it, so I knew that any daughter I had would have my name.

I never expected to marry and have children anyway, so didn't waste time on what I thought, for me would be a pointless exercise.

I never called any of my DDs this.

Fallingstar Tue 21-Apr-26 08:31:11

When I was a child I imagined that if I had a girl - never thought of having a boy - she would be called Belinda. I had a friend called this whose name was shortened to Belle and I was very jealous of her name.

harrigran Tue 21-Apr-26 08:21:28

Growing up I always said I did not want children so names were never thought of. When I had my DD I couldn't think of a name so gave her my name, well she did look like me.
Two years later I had DS and I chose three names for him, DH registered the birth, reversed the first two names and dropped the third one. He thought they sounded pretentious and thought he would be bullied at school.

Never gave it a thought but hoped their surname would be Harrison since I was going to marry George Harrison.

I wanted Andromeda if I had a girl, luckily I had two boys.

merlotgran Mon 20-Apr-26 23:06:02

My late daughter was named Tamzin after the girl in Wish For a Pony. 😔

When I was about twelve I dreamed that I would have twins called Gareth and Lindy. I have no idea where it came from or why I remember it because it never happened. 🤔

Grannybags Mon 20-Apr-26 22:52:15

I wasn’t going to have a husband, children or a mortgage!

My dil however fell in love with a name in a book when she was 12 and that’s now my GD. It’s very unusual and I’d never heard of it
