Contactless Delivery

Luckily I can direct deliveries to the garage over the road to me. I live in a top floor flat and very often parcels are left in the front entrance. So im now going to use the garage . At least I know they are safe if I happen to be out when courier calls.

We’ve never had anything stolen, some drivers do ring and run, or just run, we get almost daily letter post too - most of it recyclable!

We have an unlocked porch door and a locked front door, 9/10 our parcels are in there, but I’ve found them in other places, two separate deliveries were put in our wheelie bins and two other “hidden” behind our food bin. It’s bonkers we live in a mid terrace, tiny tiny front garden, just as easy to open porch door as the wheelie bin lid or hide it! Drives me nuts!

contactless her mean that they dont touch they put item in porch or infront the door and if you cantlearn how to schedule the delivery that you faults
always wait for the delivery be for i leave the house
and they knock or push the bell

My parcel delivered by Evri was left 3 doors down the road. I recognised the house by the photo. So at 9.00 pm I had to put on a coat over my pjs and crocs and go and pick it up. The householder is even older than I am and was probably in bed so didnt want to knock.
My house number is 5 and she has the word eight beside her door and the number 8 on her door. Its a busy road and the parcel could have been stolen had I left it till morning.

I thought contactless delivery was, for example, the InPost system, which I have just started using, you download a code to your phone, and collect your parcel at your convenience from a designated InPost box. My daughter has been using it for a while it for buying and selling on Vinted, and I like it as it is so convenient.

Yes I think it’s this also. It’s a great idea.
No stress of worrying that it’s going to be taken, or bothering the neighbors.

It seems to be thing now . Delivery drivers dump it on your doorstep. Very occasionally they’ll knock on the door . I have a ring doorbell with a camera , so I get notifications if someone’s at the door .
I do put a safe place on delivery notes when ordering but it often gets ignored or I’ve found parcels thrown over my side gate !!!

My Shark hoover from John Lewis was flung over my gate. Must have dropped 6 feet. Luckily it was well padded inside so no damage.

I've got a large parcel safe next to my front door. Royal Mail and all the courier companies happily use it for all my packages & parcels. I love it!

How do they get into it, do they have a key?

Shopping online isn’t really my thing and only do it very occasionally.
On the website I was using today it stated that they operate “contactless delivery only”.
This includes not knocking the door or ringing the doorbell.
What’s that all about?
On a separate issue, just the other day, by text, I was informed that a delivery I was expecting would be made between 14:02 and 17:02hrs
Later, I happened to see the van outside went to the door to greet the driver who was walking towards the house with my parcel. He was very nice but said that as it was only 14:00hrs he could not complete the delivery until 2 minutes had passed. I thought he was joking but apparently not. We began having a chit chat on my doorstep This abruptly ended at 14:02 when he handed to me my parcel and dashed off!
I know the world’s gone mad but what’s going on.

& yet some one on here said they are super rushed so that’s why they dump the parcels & leg it 😳

So jenpax, whose fault is it if the parcel is stolen? Really that’s not my problem if they are on piece time.
If I am paying for delivery, I expect them to meet me halfway at least.
The delivery person can see me coming up the hall, because it’s a glass door so then I don’t mind it being left on the doorstep.
For this reason I now have to get in my car & drive to the nearest Spa to pick up my parcel from a locker.

In over five years of using Amazon and Ebay deliveries I had only one item stolen from the doorstep.

We've never had a stolen package, we receive 100s a year.

Contactless delivery means, that in some areas, parcels are left on doorsteps, are visible to passersby and can be stolen. As far as the delivery company are concerned, the photo proves it has been 'delicered'.

That could also mean it is left on an unknown doorstep which is the incorrect address. I have had a parcel supposedly delivered but left on an unknown doorstep for two weeks as the people were on holiday. I have had several parcels dumped on my doorstep which are not mine and had to take them to the correct recipient.

It's supposedly in the interests of efficiency but it's to save the companies money.

When I lived in London I had a long front garden and a parcel left behind one of the bins in the bin store was not detectable from the road, but I also had a cat flap installed inside the porch and despite it only working to the chips in my two cats, I had several delivery men (they were men) trying to push parcels through until eventually it broke under the pressure! Needless to say I changed the door and the cats were restricted to the much smaller, back garden. Now, in a truly rural environment, our parcels and post are left in a parcel box and there's never any problem as we're quite isolated from other people. I have to admit that parcels in London (not mine) were always being stolen.

I will not sign up for Amazon Prime because they dump and run , not even ring bell & I am home all day, they remind me of American paper boys, may as well chuck at your front door from their van window!

I had a parcel that took Royal Mail three weeks to deliver after they claimed they had attempted to deliver when they hadn't. They ignored my subsequent requests re rescheduled deliveries after confirming the requests. The item went missing. In the time before it finally turned up I had contacted the seller, requested and received a refund. When the item did turn up the retailer told me I could keep it.

I don’t have a problem with delivery people not waiting for me to answer the door at all, they have a large amount of deliveries to get through in a day, BUT….please just ring my bell or a swift knock to let me know I have a delivery. My porch has spaces either side where parcels could be put out of sight but mostly just dumped in full view of anyone looking up my drive.

I make a point of writing in the "Delivery instructions" when I order, asking the drivers to ring the bell before leaving parcels on my porch.
I live on a large estate and it's been found that sometimes thieves follow the courier around the local area once he's out of his van with his bag of parcels. It doesn't help that couriers sometimes leave all their load on the ground floor by the lifts.

We came home from a weekend away to find a bouquet of flowers on the doorstep.
Luckily they were presented in a glass vase with water in a box so had survived and the sun was not directly on them

Other times, the report has been that they rang the doorbell, no-one was home so they left the parcel in a 'safe place' 🤔 when in fact we were in.

Had a wonderful delivery (NOT) a couple of weeks ago! Royal Mail left the parcel on a wet day in a deep puddle halfway down my path. The path at the front door was only slightly damp! Think this is done deliberately as everyone here where I live is moaning about one letter delivery every fortnight. Apparently only parcels get priority now! So was really pleased after a fruitless afternoon trying to contact Royal Mail & ending up emailing the Seller when the Seller promised a new delivery with another company! Turned up fast & delivered safely! Hate Royal Mail now!

I had a DPD delivery yesterday (Sunday). I heard the ring doorbell and someone thumping on the door. When I answered it, the delivery man had dumped it on the doorstep and was taking a photo of it. I spoke to him and thanked him but he completely ignored me - I don't think he spoke English! Still, the delivery date was scheduled for Tuesday so it was great to receive it two days early.

Contactless delivery generally means ringing the bell and handing over the item, or putting it down in the doorway, but no need to sign anything. In other words no physical contact. I never have any of the problems described here with Amazon, Evri, DPD, Royal Mail (for parcels, they are useless in letter post), or Yodal. I also have a safe place for when I’m nit available and have no problems with that either.

Never heard of the latter! Usually as quick as they can get away and totally ignore any instructions given.
