Just a wee warning. If you choose a ‘designated safe place’ for a delivery’ you have no comeback on the retailer if the parcel goes missing. The delivery company’s responsibility ends the moment they leave the parcel in the ‘safe’ place. They generally take a photo to prove that it has been delivered as per your instructions. If the parcel then disappears, that is your responsibility.
I designated my porch as my safe place. The parcel was delivered and a picture taken. My video door bell then recorded the delivery driver taking the parcel away. The retailer refused to refund as it had been delivered according to my instructions. I hope the driver found some relief from the antacid tablets the parcel contained.
I no longer specify a safe place for any delivery.

I am lucky if a driver uses my designated safe place. Parcels are usually just dumped on my doorstep, regardless of what I have asked for. All except for DPD, they always knock and wait to see if I answer the door first too.

I thought contactless delivery was, for example, the InPost system, which I have just started using, you download a code to your phone, and collect your parcel at your convenience from a designated InPost box. My daughter has been using it for a while it for buying and selling on Vinted, and I like it as it is so convenient.

We have contactless deliveries most days. I like the service.

In our last house, during COVID I had a large plastic box outise the front door labe;lled 'DELIVERIES'.

In the whole of the year if COVID only 2 delivweries were left in the box. Most de;ivery men, would leave the parcel on the door mat next to the box.

Drivers can’t be arsed to knock on the door & wait for an answer.
I put a note on the door to tell them to take it next door, TBF they usually do.

I am not sure its “can’t be arsed”! I spoke to a delivery driver once who told me that they have very very tight turn arounds, large rounds and little time to deliver so no time to stand on door steps and wait while someone shuffles slowly to answer it. If they dont make the time frames they can loose pay or face dismissal

I had something delivered today. Just left on the doorstep. When I checked my email later I had 1 at 10.35 saying it was out for delivery, another at the same time giving a delivery time of between 10.30 and 11.30 and a third saying it was delivered at 10.35!

Contactless delivery here - no problem at all - they just leave it as directed , usually in the garage

I've got a large parcel safe next to my front door. Royal Mail and all the courier companies happily use it for all my packages & parcels. I love it!

Contactless delivery means dumping it upon the doorstep so that passersby can steal it.

In that case my deliveries have been contactless for years! Parcels just left outside the gates, no attempts to ring bell. Often small items that would easily fit in parcel box are just left on top of the box - just to make it easier for passing thieves.

I cannot bend so have a stool by my front door with a large notice saying please put parcels on stool.
I can only assume that some of the drivers do not have English as a first language!

The lock up parcel lockers are a great idea. Only just recently discovered them.

Have you asked them? (I'm sure you have).

I am really happy to be helpful occasionally but I'm not the sorting office!
They did ask me once maybe 3 years ago and they obviously assume it was a "forever" ask?
If they were to pop round and say "I have something important coming this week but i know I'll be in work when it comes, "would you mind....?"

I am SO fed up with it. I rejected a parcel earlier this week.
I was even more annoyed when she had already marked it "delivered" and told me my neighbour put me as her "delivery point" if out.
I told her to take it away and mark it as "undelivered"or "rejected".

Of course now I feel bad about it but... grrrr!

They are always out and don't bother to collect deliveries.

AND I end up having to take them round, eventually.
Sometimes several at once.

I would love for them to have contactless deliveries and leave me out of it!

My neighbour kindly phoned me & told me to tell the driver to leave my parcel inside her porch as the door is always unlocked during the day (she has a locked main door).
Delivery guys all seem to go to her house.
I don’t really have many deliveries. I do however opt for the lock up box around the corner as you quite rightly pointed out that it’s not fair on the neighbour. I don’t blame you for refusing.
My neighbour moved a few years ago always had parcels coming to us, twelve one Christmas 😳
We had five in all the time they lived there, delivered to them.
Her husband a kind of ‘sugar’ or all ‘sh__’ kind of guy said, “l bet you are going to miss us”? I said, why? He replied because of all the parcels he’s ever taken in for us 😳
I replied, was he having a laugh.
Our new neighbours of three years, young couple, were always asking us to take in parcels, a pain if it’s early hours. The other neighbour has told them the same ‘Oh get the delivery guy to put in her porch. I suppose it’s up to her.

It's been happening here for quite a while, mainly with Amazon deliveries.
I have a designated safe place which they sometime use, but often just leave the package on the front steps, or leaning against the front door etc.
And they never ring the bell.
I find it infuriating.

Tbh I have never heard of a contactless delivery.
Mainly now I have opted for a lock up post box as it’s only round the corner.

I know DPD used to have a contactless option but I never chose it.

Amazon ring my bell or knock.

It seems to be thing now . Delivery drivers dump it on your doorstep. Very occasionally they’ll knock on the door . I have a ring doorbell with a camera , so I get notifications if someone’s at the door .
I do put a safe place on delivery notes when ordering but it often gets ignored or I’ve found parcels thrown over my side gate !!!

I've had the same happen and the contents were ruined. The online company were great re-sending a replacement and said they'd charge Royal Mail. From what they said, they have this quite a lot. I always put a note on my orders to leave in a covered bin at the side of the house if no-one is in but sometimes parcels are still left by front door on full view. I think the problem generally is that the delivery people are under such pressure to complete their run with too many parcels for too little time.

Amazon deliveries are the same here, I’ve had a parcel left outside the front door at 10pm in pouring rain - after I’ve gone up to bed - and only knew because a message pinged on my phone.

I've had several of these recently, and am getting more and more annoyed about them. Generally from Royal Mail. They don't ring the bell, so we don't know that the item has been delivered. Often left by the front door, instead of by the back door, which is our designated safe place. I have medication delivered from pharmacy2you, and don't appreciate it being left in full view of the street. Royal mail like sending surveys, so I always tell them what I think, in no uncertain terms!
