if they win power in the general election, will this change your stance on voting in the local elections??

No I would not. The party is vile as is their leaders, the smarmy Tice is as bad.
It pains me to say it about my age group but the views we express on here are not the views of alot of pensioners. I have heard quite a few on the local news saying they will vote reform.

That’s ‘cos there’s only a handful of posters on here and there’s loads of Reform voters in the real world.

No they need to take a long jump, they are vile, misogynist, far right, racist and a huge blot on our country, they could give me a million pounds and I d still never feel different.

They've already already voiced their intentions to repeal the equality laws and ex-Tory Danny Kruger seems to have some extremely medieval ideas about women.

He's obviously an avid fan of "The Handmaid's Tale".

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 14-Apr-26 09:17:48

I will once again vote for Reform UK

And no Sarnia I don’t consider myself a ‘knuckle dragger’.
What a vile description. I won’t report your comment but let it stand as I think it says more about you than anyone who intends to vote for Reform UK

As for your question infoman their promise to keep the triple lock wouldn’t interest me either way.

Funny old world though when we say ‘we can’t afford it’ yet MPs get to enjoy platinum pensions. Gah!

nanna8 Tue 14-Apr-26 09:17:57

Were I to vote I definitely wouldn’t vote for Forage, but I think comments about people voting for his party being thick knuckle draggers are very snobbish and hateful. Those are the sort of comments that actually persuade people to vote for the buggers.

Oh good someone voting for Reform.

So would you be so kind to list your reasons? To me it is a complete puzzle, but also something that interests me greatly. Be really, really grateful if you would list the positives as against the negatives (they aren’t the Tory party for example) .

Thanks in advance

Interesting comment mae13

Of course his mother is Prue Leith who had, a self confessed, affair with his father who was her best friend’s husband.
I make no judgement, but might explain some views.

No, the offer of the triple lock wouldn’t persuade me to vote Reform, tho am not quite pensionable yet anyway.I expect the Conservatives will likely say the same thing before the next GE as well.
The younger generation may not like the triple lock but since a lot of them also like Zack Polanski and his crazy ideas/ policies I don’t know what that says about the 18-24 year olds😱

It says they care more about the environment than they do about other political concerns, just as people voting for Reform care more about small boat migrants than they care about about other political concerns.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 14-Apr-26 09:27:06

To be fair, FGT, the number of retired MP's collecting their excellent pensions is miniscule compared to the number of over - 67s in receipt of the state pension.
I do wonder how sustainable the triple lock is, whatever party is in government, as the numbers of older people increase

I wonder if they’ve looked at his other ideas? He’s a cynical grifter who’s just as populist as NF.

Name calling is not the way to go but can understand people’s frustration.
If the MAGA faithful hadn’t voted for Trump we wouldn’t be dealing with an illegal war in Iran that affects all of us.
In any case I do know that some on here who will consider voting Reform may have made derogatory comments about the ‘raging lefties’ or ‘Wokey lefties, and I know some refer to Labour voters as the loony left.
Perhaps we should all refrain from doing this.

Casdon Tue 14-Apr-26 09:35:52

Exactly so Oreo, they are the opposite extremes. I think it’s the out there policies that attract people to both, and not everybody looks deeply at what the implications of their choice are.

“Nigel Farage has had his MEP's salary docked by £35,500 after claims he misspent EU funds, the BBC understands…………………..
The 53-year-old will be entitled to annual EU pension of £73,000 when he reaches the age of 63.”
BBC 12 January 2018

Looks like he’ll be getting his “platinum” pension soon.

Well said!

Whilst many of us want the boats to stop, for different reasons, I’ve heard zero about the “how” from Reform!

Indeed.
And of course we shouldn’t forget that Brexit made the small boats situation a hundred times worse due to ceasing cooperation with the EU. And who masterminded Brexit - the snake oil salesman himself.
He hasn’t clue how to deal with the small boats issue and in true Farage style will probs just make matters worse then blame others, like his best buddy Trump.

Well said Falling Star, I'm so heartened by the majority opinion on this thread. Reform are a bunch of corrupt, racist, misogynist, opportunist crooks. No way would they get my vote.

Happylady2025 Tue 14-Apr-26 09:45:09

Yes until they get into power then they will change their minds. I dont trust them one bit. Actually I dont trust any of the political parties. They all lie, cheat and are in it for themselves not the good of the country

MayBee70 Tue 14-Apr-26 09:48:07

Any future Reform government and cabinet is unknown because they’re still trying to recruit people who agree with their unpleasant policies. How can people vote for change when that change is faceless? How many Reform councillors and MP’s are under scrutiny for misdemeanours? Racist comments or tax evasion. Or both.

There are Reform voters who are also GN Posters, but they are shy about explaining why they chose to do so. Which is, of course, their prerogative.

Why on earth would anyone be shy about the reasons for voting for a particular party. That is so weird.

The parties manifestos are there for everyone to see.

ronib Tue 14-Apr-26 10:17:47

Does anyone remember the vote to leave the EU? Can anyone explain why Labour can realign this country with the EU without a single referendum vote being cast?
Reform is not in power and is unlikely to form the next government. Save your anxiety for Labour.

This is not the subject for this thread - interesting though it is - start a new one

Vote for Reform ?No way. I trust Nigel Farage and his henchmen , and women, as far as I could throw them.
His work record as M.P., just as it was when he was in European Parliament is appalling.

I think that it’s more likely that most of those on here who might support Reform are too nervous to say so because it’s possible the rest of us might jump on them!

I’m normally pretty laid back with people’s choices and happy to agree to disagree.

I’ve tolerated being called “woke”, “loony liberal”, “leftie” and so on.

I don’t mind as I’m proud to be a person who genuinely cares about their fellow humans, I’m proud to have brought up our five children who have not a shred of discrimination between them and are honest hard working people.

I must admit I really struggle with Reform, Trump and those with similar views and I have no idea why Farage appeals to anyone with a social conscience or indeed any female.

BUT we live in a democracy, they are entitled to their choices.

I’ll still like to know though what appeals or policies attract people to Reform?

TillyTrotter Tue 14-Apr-26 10:47:42

No , triple lock is a “nice to have” but not if that meant the Reform party being in power.
