I have taken the liberty to open a new kitchen.

Bubbles, friendship and support in abundance xxxxx

I have just looked at the recipe - no wonder they are lethal! I must try one 🤣
It’s the middle of the night and I’m awake with toothache after all the dental work on Wednesday. Scared it’s infected, which would not be good for my 8 week old hip joint.

brook2704 Sat 06-Jun-26 07:43:54

I’ve just looked up the recipe too, bet that packs a punch! I’ve never tried one either, probably too strong for me these days
Hope you got some sleep eventually nannytopsy and the toothache has subsided, hopefully no infection
That’s brought back some memories, uttb I remember that bar well although only been into it once. It was when all the family met up in Manchester the evening before the wedding of one of my stepsons. We had a great time there
Safe travels to Corfu Yia, enjoy your holiday together with your family
Hope your journey home goes ok fgt
DGD is still asleep here, tired out after her school disco last night. Their new puppy however is wide awake and looking for something to play with!

Usedtobeblonde Sat 06-Jun-26 09:35:47

Good morning all.
How brave to give a temporary home to a new puppy Brooke is she housetrained?
I had puddles everywhere when my D brought her puppy to stay, I wasn’t happy, also my little Mollycat objected very strongly to a visitor to HER home.
Much hissing and barking ensued.

I am going to my GD’s nephew’s 1st birthday party today, she and her BF are going to a wedding so can’t attend the party, not necessarily a bad thing as she is estranged from her mother, a sadness for me.
It is not raining at the moment but very dull and very chilly, yesterday was actually cold.
I hope FGT has a good journey home, she will find a huge difference in temperature and that you all enjoy your days, flaming June it certainly isn’t.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 06-Jun-26 09:37:24

Sorry to hear about your tooth problems Nanny T
Infection after a joint replacement is a real worry..

Jaxjacky Sat 06-Jun-26 09:39:17

Fingers crossed it’s just settling Nannytopsy.

Hello kitchen people,

Just a quick peek to see how you all are.

Today is a rest day. Some of the group have gone sightseeing but others have stayed in the hotel. We relaxed by the pool and I finished Raising Hare which is an amazing book. Highly recommended. We then had lunch in the hotel’s Italian restaurant. I’m just relaxing in my air conditioned room (it’s 30+ degrees outside). The complimentary limoncello has made me sleepy. In an hour or so we’ll go for a wander. I’ve bought little holiday presents for my granddaughter but need to get something for my neighbour who is feeding the cats.

Have a good rest of the day.

Jaxjacky Sat 06-Jun-26 13:57:18

Enjoy the relaxation and bask in the warmth, wet, windy and cold here in the south, I’ve put our heating on!
I hope FGT is winging her way home safely after a very successful trip for body and soul.
Have a cosy afternoon if you can all.

brook2704 Sat 06-Jun-26 19:08:36

Hi kitchen friends, a good day here but we’re both feeling tired now. DGD has been so good and helpful, she’s absolutely besotted with their new little puppy, it was so lovely so see them playing together. Just one small accident last night uttb, otherwise she’s been very good. They’re both back home now and we’re about to enjoy a late dinner with our feet up
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

GrannyGravy13 Sat 06-Jun-26 19:17:58

I am trying to get two GC out of a soft play birthday party, it’s like herding cats 😹

Jaxjacky Sat 06-Jun-26 19:54:18

Miserable day down south, wet, windy and cold all day, so little done outside, in fact nothing!
An indoor day catching up with TV we’ve missed, phone calls, ordering birthday presents and sorting out what’s appointments we have next week.
Job done brook, enjoy your dinner.
I hope your mouth is fine Nannytopsy

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 06-Jun-26 21:03:13

I’m home.
I found Málaga airport somewhat emotional as I was last there 12 months ago and our flight back then was an urgency for a much needed Christie appointment then unplanned surgery so I found being in the departure lounge once more and on my own quite upsetting this afternoon.

Then I arrived home to find this message on the table from L’il Miss (9) who had been round with her mum and had left wine, cheese twists and olives to welcome me back. I cried.

Redcar Sat 06-Jun-26 21:14:27

I hope you enjoyed the 1st birthday party utbb.

Wet windy and cool here today, not quite cool enough for the heating to kick in,but it may be on in the morning.
It’s a shame because it’s “Open Gardens” in the village today and tomorrow. I don’t thing there were many people about today, I hope it will be better tomorrow, it must be very disappointing to have spent a lot of time and effort making the garden look beautiful only for no one to see it!

llfl I hope you had a lovely day today, please bring some sunshine back with you!

I hope fgt is safely home now, possibly wrapped up in winter woolies after the heat in Malaga!

Thinking of those in the quiet corner.

Night night everyone, sleep well.

Redcar Sat 06-Jun-26 21:17:46

fgt what a lovely welcome home! I’m not surprised you cried, after a very emotional journey home.

I did enjoy the party Thankyou but was exhausted by the time I got home.
I was sitting with my exDiL’s family and while not awkward exactly it was “different” but I have always treated her two children with her second husband as extra GC and wanted to be part of the little ones life.
His mum still calls me Nan and I expect her S will treat me as Grandma.
My GD and her BF were at a wedding and the evening part of the day started off with a van serving wood fired Pizzas, this is a theme now apparently, her BF took one bite of his vegetarian one and realised it contained Pesto, he is allergic to all nuts.
Sod’s Law he didn’t have his. EpiPen, my GD whisked him to A&E, less than 15 minutes away and he was taken straight to triage and treatment started.
He had injections, steroids and anti sickness tablets and will remain there for a minimum of 6 hours for observation.
Not what they expected when they left in their glad rags.

Redcar Sat 06-Jun-26 22:42:12

utbb I’m pleased you enjoyed the birthday party, how nice to still be in contact with your ex DiL and her family and to be able to see your great nephew.
What a nasty shock for your GD’s partner and for your GD. Good that she was able to get him to A&E quickly for treatment and even better that he was seen quickly. I hope he’s ok and will be discharged soon. They won’t forget the wedding in a hurry unfortunately.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 07-Jun-26 10:51:37

I’m such a worrier that if I had a nut allergy, every time I’d leave the house I’d be carrying my EpiPen uttb as you just never know when it might be needed. I’d be too scared not to have it with my in case of anaphylactic shock.

Charleygirl5 Sun 07-Jun-26 11:52:54

Although not the warmest day of the year in London, at least it is dry so the washing is out.

I slept solidly for over 9 hours last night, I must have needed it. Doing nothing can be very tiring. I need a lie down when I see what some of you have achieved in a couple of hours.

Apparently another heatwave is coming within a few days. I haven't switched on the heating yet, but I need a hwb again.

brook2704 Sun 07-Jun-26 15:15:25

Goodness uttb I hope your GD partner is ok now with no side effects. What a worry though, but pleased he was seen and treated promptly
It’s quite warm here today but a bit windy. We’ve just had a shower so I brought all the washing in, it’s sunny again now though so it might go out again 🤷‍♀️ I’ve been gardening and cut down quite a big rhododendron, I hope I’ve not been too harsh with it and overdone it, will see!
Hope everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, take care all x

Usedtobeblonde Sun 07-Jun-26 16:54:11

Yes he is ok today thanks.
They got home at 2am.
He usually has one EpiPen with him and one in his car.
I don’t know why he didn’t have one on his person but they went in my GD’s car however it was all ok, we live 10 minutes from the nearest hospital and the wedding was 15 minutes in the other direction, we are lucky.
Wet and chilly today and not much better for the rest of the week , I hope you all manage to get out and about.

Jaxjacky Sun 07-Jun-26 17:20:47

Good utbb a worry at the time though.
A dry, less windy day, I’ve had my car valeted as a treat, it’s pristine inside and out. MrJ is at bowls.
I’ve just cleaned a load of bugs from the kitchen windowsill, not sure where from, I’ll be keeping an eye out.
Chicken in the slow cooker.
FGT I hope you’ve had a lovely day seeing your family.

brook2704 Sun 07-Jun-26 17:37:48

How lovely to get your car valeted Jax, bet it feels like new. We just share the one car between us, I’m always going onto DH about keeping the seat and steering wheel clean etc. not to mention the seat and mirror adjustments needed every time we swap over 😂
Pleased all is ok now uttb
I’m going to parcel up a few old children’s books & games that I’ve just sold on Vinted, I was about to give up on them and put in the charity shop bag but surprisingly they’ve sold today, about 6 months after listing!

Jaxjacky Sun 07-Jun-26 18:00:37

Gosh, they took a while brook patience..said a very impatient person!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 07-Jun-26 18:53:00

👋 Jax I’ve had a really lovely day seeing family. My stepfather (94) was particularly delighted to see me, bless. His world has smalled down so much since Himself was poorly and died. He relied on us very much to go shopping at M&S each week and a Sunday pub lunch or his favourite Italian restaurant. Sadly that all seems a lifetime ago now…

Hey ho.

L’il Miss is coming in the morning (7:15am) an inset day at her junior school - I need to set the alarm for 6:45am 😮

Redcar Sun 07-Jun-26 19:25:11

fgt I’m pleased you’ve had a good day catching up with family, especially your stepfather. He’ll be pleased you’re able to resume getting his shopping! Enjoy your day with L’il Miss tomorrow.
I went for a walk this morning, met up with several dog walking friends and spent quite a while chatting rather than walking.
My gardening man came this morning and weeded the front garden which now looks very tidy. I need to get some more plants to fill it up before the weeds grow again.

utbb what a relief that your GD’s partner is fine today. You are very conveniently placed for the hospital!

Have a pleasant evening everyone.
