Good morning from the bright but still chilly west midlands.
It's one of those funny days today, a mix of good things & bad things! Firstly & positively my leeks are growing nicely & then secondly; I look like a character out of Dicken's due to manky, sore. & bandaged hands because of Raynards syndrome. Does anyone suffer from this blight during prolonged cold spells?

Good Morning Saturday 21st February 2026
(37 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark and has been wet overnight here in Brackley this morning.
I am up to my usual bus trip into Bicester slightly earlier, will have a coffee and a snack on arrival before a shop, hopefully see those I know..
Light lunch, followed by cycling on TV and then maybe a Chinese Take Away .
Health OK .
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast. Really enjoyed the art group yesterday although it was a small turnout. I took some of the flowers we had painted round to a friend not long out of hospital, but didn’t stay as she was very tired and I hadn’t phoned.
Then I had lunch in a cafe in the park and chose corned beef hash which I haven’t had for ages. It’s a nice friendly place with dog owners chatting to each other.
A long FaceTime with my sister in the south rounded off a pleasant day.
I’m off soon to a church fair although I should really tackle some house stuff. It can wait.
Thoughts to FGTs and all🌺
.
Good morning all from the Black country.
Haven't read through yet have overslept and I'm meeting DS and the boys after gymnastics
So I shall wish you all a pleasant day and catch up later as the usual Saturday full English is calling. ☀️
FGTs 💐
Another damp Good Morning from Co Armagh
Hopefully a quiet day here , my up and go is having a rest
Wishing a pleasant day to all
Good morning from a dry Cambridgeshire where it is 10 degrees but apparently feels more like 3!
Yesterday I enjoyed a walk into town to meet my friend and we had a good catch up over lunch and then she gave me a lift home as the rain had arrived which then set in for the day. Lots of road closures and floods here causing chaos.
Lovely pics of beaches on here today. The Norfolk coast is my nearest but still nearly two hours away.
Today I plan to walk at my local National Trust property and will then settle down with my kindle unlimited book for the afternoon. No doubt the rugby will be on as soon as DH arrives back from his indoor bowling.
Wishing a good day to all 💐
Bamburgh is a great favourite of DD1 its where she would really like to live. I have very happy memories of Perranporth
Hello everyone from West Lothian. I was convinced it was going to be raining but when I opened the curtains it was, if not a blue sky, at least dry.
Yesterday was a pretty ‘rubbish’ day. Neither dh nor I woke up in good moods and this wasn’t helped by me getting stuck in the downstairs loo. I’ve no idea how this happened because I didn’t lock (only shut) the door. Somehow the part that goes from the handle into the door frame, to keep it shut, got stuck in there 😳 and very firmly! Dh had to kick the door open and then blamed me for being too ‘heavy handed’ 🤷♀️.
Hopefully today will be a better day. I don’t have much planned. Housework. Hip exercises. And hopefully a chance to practice my Spanish. Tonight I’ll be watching the GB men in the curling final against Canada.
I loved the pictures of Perranporth and Bamburgh beaches marzipan and greyduster. I have happy memories of being on both of them. In the case of Perranporth it was over 40 years ago! I would love to go back but Cornwall seems so far away.
Have a good day everyone
Good morning from a dry and milder NE.
Yesterday's lunch out was okay but not as good as anticipated.
Neither of us finished our main course so when we asked for the bill the owner came and asked what the problem was. He deducted a percentage from the bill. I guess he thought we may give a bad review. They weren't out of pocket as friend always tips well and afterwards I realised that they had added a service charge too.
DS and GD2 will visit this afternoon, always lovely to chat to her and hear her play the piano.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning everyone from a brighter Northampton, but showers are forecast, so hope I can get to the shops and back without getting too wet.
Had a very lazy day yesterday, doing very little; newspaper, puzzle pages, reading and knitting. I actually finished The Bell Jar! Was pleased that the book finished on a more hopeful note, which sadly was not the case for the author Sylvia Plath.
Will shortly shower and get off to the shops on the bus, not much on my shopping list, but I need to get out of the house. Hoping to be back for the Six Nations.
Wishing all a pleasant Saturday.
Good morning from so far a sunny Leicestershire.
Nothing planned today although I have plenty of admin piling up. Yesterday I had to make a video appointment with a rep from the Dutch government in order to get a personal number so I can log on every year to get the annual statement of my Dutch pension. Bureaucracy gone mad.
Our buses are usually pretty good with one every 15 minutes into town. They are quite fun as everyone chats to each other and they all know the bus drivers.
My thoughts are with those struggling and I hope everyone has the best day possible.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Dry at the moment in South Yorkshire but not set to stay that way. I slept like a top last night. Marvellous!
After having had to leave it at the garage after its service on Thursday, it was delivered back yesterday, problem solved. One of the new spark plugs was a rogue apparently. I was very relieved it wasn’t anything more serious. GS rang last night for a chat.
I have food shopping to do today and then if the rain stays off I shall try and have a tidy up in the lower garden and maybe a run over to the garden centre for bulbs to go in the front planter.
Georgesgran the news about Bamburgh beach will not surprise anyone who has visited there. Lots of happy memories here of walks along its pristine length with views of the Farne Islands.
Have the best day you can, folks..
Have the best day you can, folks.
In response to the ghost buses, generally the buses are every 20 minutes, but…. Suddenly out of nowhere they ghosts appear, for no apparent reason.
If it’s one, I can cope, but two in a row (then add the just missed bus!) is too much.
Morning from a cloudy S Hants, warmer though.
Beautiful picture Marzipan, serene.
Yesterday we had four deliveries, my current hip constraints don’t hinder online shopping, happy with a new jumper using Christmas gift cards.
Sport today after exercises, cottage pie for dinner.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and damp. The clouds look foreboding so I expect we'll see rain.
Bellasnana that's good service indeed. marzipan I love your photo of the beach. madeleine I'm glad you are feeling better today.
Yesterday I didn't do much as this cold has floored me. I did a bit in the school library. I noticed some bags of new books were in so I'll process them next week. I was being lazy when a message came in from ds asking if I would pick him up at the station and take him to dds with dgs1s birthday present, so off I went. We had a pleasant hour with the family then I dropped him back at the station. He brought some of his homemade chocolate for us to try which he'd made in York. It was quite nice but a bit too salty. I had hoped for a fish supper last night but there was no parking left at the shops and horrendous traffic due to traffic lights in the village so home I went for a dinner out of the freezer.
Today I'm still choked with the cold and finding it unpleasant. Dgs1 is having a party with some of his friends but I'm excused. I'll see him tomorrow on his actual birthday. I need to go to aldi for food and then do some washing and housework. Have a good day all.
Good morning from S E Essex, where it is trying to brighten up.
Local shops first thing, nothing else planned.
Lovely photo Marzipan22
Thinking of our poorly friends and those with troubles 🙋♀️
Good morning all from a very dull, warmer North Leicestershire.
We are having a slow start today before going to Denby Village. It is the last day of their sale and we want to get some more plates. No doubt other things will find their way into our trolley. We will have lunch out.
My health check went well yesterday apart from the nurse telling me that the results from my blood test would be on the NHS App and maybe someone could help me access them.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Morning Mick, morning All from a grey, gloomy corner of Somerset.
Thankfully the gusty wind has died away, yesterdays the heavy rain showers stung, horizontal rain isn’t welcome.
A quiet day at home ahead. Mr C wants to finish an interminable jigsaw, I plan to carry on sorting our guest bedroom come study. Much weeding out is occurring and it would be good to have it finished before friends come to stay next month. I’ll make some random vegetable soup for lunch and we’ll no doubt consider chocolate biscuits at some point.
Ghost buses are almost expected here grandmattie. It’s infuriating isn’t it?
Best wishes to all. Have the best day you can everyone.
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I’m still in bed and haven’t peeked through the curtains yet.
We enjoyed our lunch out yesterday with very old friends of OH. Sadly ‘he’ isn’t well at all physically.
We picked up another batch of antibiotics on the way home which I started last night. I’m not particularly optimistic that my toe will improve so expect to be looking up local podiatrists before long.
A quiet day beckons. OH will be watching rugby and the Winter Olympics.
Have a good day.
FGT2S 🌹
Good morning all and it’s getting much lighter earlier .
Yesterday was full-on. Vets checkup but no vaccination so have to make another appointment! 😤.Why? 🤷🏻♀️.
DGD and I decided to take pooch to the fields for a run (first time in ages). We all came back covered in mud. I might have known, but it was good to have a run in the fresh air.,
Back home, dog in the bath and us stripped down.
Drove to hairdressers as running late and couldn’t park, so drove home and walked. Fortunately they weren’t busy.
A quick lunch and DGD and I caught the bus to the hospital. Dd still poorly but was pleased to see her lovely girl.
Had to wait half an hour for the bus home, diversions due to an accident. Home to cook tea , Dh saying he was starving! (He’s capable of making a sandwich and a cup of tea) 🙄.
Today I must shop and go to DD’s house for more clothes for DGD and for her school uniform in readiness for Monday.,
The twin boys are fending for themselves. Goodness knows what the house looks like , not to mention the pile of washing.
They are capable at nearly 20 yrs of age.
What lovely adventures you have Marzipan.
Bellasnanna what nice garage men.
Liberty have a wonderful weekend.
Take care all.🌱
Good morning from the East Coast and it’s much milder for a week or so now.
I had a lovely day yesterday with GD1 she was so good. She was chatty and lovely company all day. We had a video chat with DS and family in China. They were at an airport hotel as early this morning they flew to Dali for a six day holiday. While we were chatting he got a message to say an order of coffee had arrived. He opened the door and there was something that looked like R2D2 from Star Wars at the door, he tapped on a button and a little door opened and there was the coffee. The robot then turned round and wheeled away. DGD was fascinated as was i.
While they are in Dali DDIL has booked a photographer for a day to take pics of the three of them so I'm looking forward to those pictures. The Chinese really do love to be photographed.
Today we have a quiet day just the two of us so I’m not sure what we will do. I need to go to the post office as I’ve just sold a dress on Vinted and need to pick a parcel up. We may offer to have GD2 this morning while her sister is doing double jujitsu to prepare for her next belt and she might be bored while waiting and they can pass our house on the way. I’ll message DD.
Hope today brings a few moments of joy🌼
Thoughts to those finding daily life a struggle with sadness or pain. 💐
Good morning everyone from Inverness, it’s forecast to be slightly warmer and I’m hoping the bitterly cold wind has gone
Lovely picture Marzipan, thank you
I’m going into town today for a bit of shopping. I need to return some jeans to M&S as I bought various sizes as I wasn’t sure of the fit. Then probably a bit of a browse around the shops. DH will run me in, we’ll have a coffee together and then he’ll come home and I’ll get the bus back later
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning from a wet W Kent. Have to get up soon to return DGS5 to his parents. They are off to the other grandparents for the weekend. He sat with us and watched the Olympics which was fun
A bit of shopping today otherwise quiet
Best wishes
Good morning everyone from a damp, cloudy and mild mid Essex. A dry start to the day is forecast with showers later. Yesterday was showery in the afternoon. I may attempt a little more gardening this morning.
I hope the coffee morning at Church is well attended grandmattie.
Very frustrating to have to unpick your crochet melanie, I hope it doesn’t take too long to do it again.
marzipan thank you for the lovely photo of Perranporth beach, so good for the soul to be able to walk on the beach. Enjoy your day, either in St.Ives or collecting a tree.
ash I hope the new buses don’t cause too much disruption, the council will probably try to restrict parking on the bus routes!
marydoll I’m sorry your DDiL is still in hospital and hope that the infection clears quickly and that she is discharged on Monday.
Thinking of all those who are poorly or worried in any way.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still cold dark morning here in North Yorkshire, however improved by being a little later and I can see the outline of the tree against the sky, which cheers with the promise of lighter mornings to come.
Today begins with a somewhat better start than yesterday. Not a lot of sleep and I am still moving at snail pace, but am grateful to start the morning with no cramp, so fingers crossed, I hope that drinking more water may be a fix for it a bit, but at least I can just move about without having to think what I am doing all the time. We dont really notice all the things that we do automatically , until we have to and it is quite tiring checking up all the time. Anyway here I am with the joy of J S Bach , and a piece I love, so with those two positive things I am choosing to think that today will be better!
Sorry I was such a misery yesterday. It really was a horrible day, and I struggled for most of it, and even a promised visit from a friend didnt happen. I was starting to get worried as no phone call or anything, when she rang later to say that her phone had died on her, and she was delayed and had to wait until she got home to ring me as she couldnt remember my phone number to ring!! I changed my phone not long ago, and of course we put favourite numbers in to just press and ring and the new numbers are so long, we dont really learn them by heart now. A bit late but she has now written half a dozen important numbers on a paper to keep in her wallet, in case of another need for them. So that about put the tin lid on a rubbish day. But I did get a bit done, as I plodded along, using my grabber to pick up lots of bits and pieces that had fallen on the floor, threw quite a lot of out of date papers and stuff away, so at least the floor is not a trip up hazard today.
The afternoon improved as I was able to listen to gardeners question time and last word etc etc. The tv was avoided as I am sick and tired of the endless Mountbatten repeated story and there wasnt anything I felt like watching on the olympics so radio 3 and 4 encouraged me to carry on doing a few things.
This morning I am up dressed and have my shopping list ready to venture out on the yellow peril to the market. I did go through the fridge yesterday and hope to get some good fresh fruit and vegetables and now we are past valentines day, should be able to buy some flowers to cheer the day at a reasonable price. My two hyacinths bowls have been lovely, but the blue ones are just about over and the cream ones are at their best today and their perfume is lovely. Each to their own, but I have never liked air fresheners or scented candles, but much prefer what I would call real perfume, so flowers with a beautiful scent, and I always enjoyed the smell of the christmas tree as much as the look of it.
If I could invent a way to make my own scents to wear that smelt of what I enjoy, they would be a funny mixed lot. Besides the normal smell of lillies and other flowers, I would love the smell of cherry blossom shoe polish, and that smell of tar on the road from a summer day, although that of course is actually very bad for you. Then that lovely smell of newly ironed clothes that were dried outside on the line. A smell of just toasted teacakes or grilled bacon, would just encourage me to eat more so perhaps wouldnt try those.
Anyway I am hoping to get the shopping and the Yorkshire Post and probably watch some rugby this afternoon if the rain promised yet again arrives. The ironing basket is full and awaiting my attention so might do a bit of that, and I hope that some inspiration will give me some idea for dinner tonight as I have nothing in mind so far.
Hope you have a good day Mick and get your chinese tonight. Well done with your quilt GrandMattie and hope your coffee morning efforts go well. Bellasnana you did very well with your car, hope the tennis goes your way tonight. Melanie how maddening to have to pull all your crochet back.
Well the sky is lightening now and still looking dry, so time to get organised and by the time I have got myself sorted and down the market the stalls will be ready for business and being early I should be able to get the bread I prefer from the breadshop too. Wishing you all a good day with positive outcomes from whatever you are planning, and hopefully a little sunshine to cheer the day.
