Good morning Mick and all GN's on a wet and windy morning in North Yorkshire. As I am a bit later this morning I can at least see the branches of the tree waving about against the grey and wet sky. If the rain eases off I might get my bedding on the line later, but shant hold my breath.
Yesterday turned out to be a day of pleasures, with jobs left and ignored. It was bitterly cold and I was struggling to even walk about never mind briskly. Being market day, I would have needed to go on the buggy as no parking for cars. Looking at my shopping list, I decided it was far too cold to be out in the open air on the buggy, and nothing was really desperate . Looked to see what I could take out of the freezer for a meal, and no inspiration at all. Plenty of things needed doing but I was just having one of those mornings where I couldnt raise the energy or the effort to begin anything.
Then looked in my local paper and had ringed the cinema in Thirsk, as they were showing Hamnet, and as luck would have it they have a matinee on wednesdays . (Think that comes from the old ways of having a half day on wednesdays) You can book seats in advance but also just queue and pay as you go. So that galvanised me into doing some basic housework, making a short list of shopping to pick up whilst in Thirsk and then went very early. I cant manage to walk from the normal parking area and there are two or three spaces along the street from the cinema, so went early, taking my new Makaton work book with me. So I was able to park, and sit for about 20 minutes , practising my signing and reading a bit ready for the next lesson.
Then I went and joined the queue, which was quite large. Obviously the weather had made many other people think the same and there was much meeting of friends in the queue and then in we went. The cinema is a very old Ritz cinema with a ground floor and a balcony, just like the one I used to go to as a child. It cost £6 and they even have a loyalty card, which they stamp each time you go and after nine films you get one free. It is all run by volunteers, and the only thing missing is the usherette with the icecream and the light to shine on the back row couples!! I thought it was a very good film, well made and very worth seeing. Also as most of the audience were about my age a very decent audience. No phones ringing, talking, rustling bags etc., so tick tick for that.
I came out and went across to the bigger Tesco with the intention of now getting my bits and pieces, but no chance! They only have one disability scooter and it had only just been taken out, the lady on the desk informed me , so I couldnt know how long it would be. Gave up on that idea, but called into a nearby shop to look at some flooring as I still havent got the hall sorted out. That was worth the looking and has given me some ideas to follow through. So then I went to a chinese takeaway and bought something to eat (always have the trusty picnic set with me) and then off to the whist drive, where for once I was an early arrival and so had the pick of the parking places. Enjoyed the evening, no prizes and no especially brilliant hands, but it was a pleasure to be there and so my rather miserable start to the day turned out to be a very good day.
Today I have a sore throat and a cold. Nothing terrible but have two meetings I need to go to and hopefully the cleaning lady will be here. I have already made a note to ask her to look for my wretched glasses as she goes and put a jar of beetroot out to remind myself to ask her to open it, as I cant! If it wouldnt have made such a mess I felt like throwing it to the floor in a temper, when I couldnt open it after much trying with openers towels etc etc!
So this evening I hope for small miracles , to see everywhere tidied and the bed made with the lost glasses found and the beetroot jar opened! We shall see. I will then be happy to spend a quiet evening recuperating from the day.
Hope you have a good trip on the bus Mick. I expect you are looking forward to the cycling on the winter olympics about to start now. GrandMattie hope the new Teflon man finally gets something done. It does sound very odd that those few windows were missed out. RoseandLilac hope your tablets arrived and can help a bit. Marydoll, you have had such a hard time and I hope all goes well with your DIL. Good that the young curate went to see her, and I hope Babydoll improves soon and that it is nothing catching so that you can remain as well as possible and get to the hospital soon. Thinking about you and your family and wishing that the problems ease and you can get some rest.
I wish everyone an easy and calm day if possible today and hope that those in flooded areas dont get too much more rain today. At least if it is windy it might help to dry things out a little. Hope the signs of green and growth coming through cheer everyone to look forward to some better days.
