I worked as PA to an MP in the HoC many years ago and found most members, of whichever party, to be decent people trying to do their best for their constituents.
Of course, we tend not to hear about them.

We don't hear about them because people just love to read the scandals the media feeds them and they aren't going to stop.

So many angry people with no where to go...

Tbh we don’t really know which MP’s are ‘decent’ and what goes on in their private lives and dealings.The media can’t ‘feed’ stories which aren’t actually there can they? We need the media to expose and show up those who are the cause of scandals.
If the electorate are angry it’s for good reasons.

I have no doubt that most MPs are honest, faithful and reliable and work hard at their jobs. I am also sure that the potential for corruption is distributed fairly evenly across all parties and emerges once they encounter power.
Mandelson is something else; he had a trail of dishonest dealings in connection with politics and business without needing any reference to Epstein,did raise concerns about his appointment, but he had acted as an adviser to Starmer apparently, while leader of the Opposition.

I personally think more scrutiny and attention needs to be given to the selection process of each Party.
if things go "wrong" there, then the electorate has a miserable selection of people from whom to vote for.

I don’t think people get anywhere in politics, without back stabbing and Machiavellian antics.
I agree Keir Starmer’s days are numbered, maybe not immediately but soon.
I am appalled at the whole affair, but not surprised as money is power.

It was what you said that puzzled me as you didn't name names. It almost read as though you were pointing at Starmer having given Mandelson the peerage.

As Bagsseti has actually worked in Parliament for an MP I think we can take what she says to be reasonable.

Not all MPs reach the dizzy heights of ministerial posts which make them the target for lobbying and bribery. Nor, I suspect, do most of them expect to.

I'm happy to believe that there are many MPs who do enter parliament with excellent intentions.

As with all corruption it will end when those people who say they are innocently caught up in the vortex of these crimes “grow a pair” and tell the truth and face the consequences.

I joined GN a few weeks ago. I’m 61, mum of two, granny to one 5 year old. I’m a real person and yes, I did work for a London Labour MP, albeit many years ago. I’m not a particularly political animal, did the job because it was interesting and we did make a positive difference to the lives of some constituents.

After all the lies and cheating an incompetence of the preceding shower of clowns and power hungry idiots, I thought (hoped),we might be safe with Starmer...knighted, former barrister, head of CPS, seemingly honest, normal etc etc. But of course it's one big fat NO to all that!
Clearly his motivation was to suck up to that other asshole across the pond (also a member of Epstein's cabale).
When are we going to get people of real integrity in charge of our country?

It's not just a UK problem - read Politico or other non UK media - there's scandal all over the place about his dealings. Hilarious how some of these poor fellows were too mean to pay the ladies or get themselves their own hotel room. Great for the ever helpful Jeff - who was taking the film/photos?

I never thought in my lifetime I would see anything as far reaching as Operation Yewtree which arose from the Jimmy Savile scandal but the Epstein affair looks set to have even bigger repercussions. I really can't see how Starmer - the self styled "Mr Rules" who was going to stamp out corruption and is now up to his neck in sleaze - can survive; bad enough that he knew more than he let on but trying to limit the publication of information about what exactly he did and didn't know makes it all look even worse. The question isn't will he fall, it is will he bring the rest of his government with him? he is not a good leader but when you look at who might end up running the country instead things could get even worse. Buckle up folks, it's a rough ride ahead with, I suspect, a lot more fallout still to come!

Starmer is in danger now over the Mandelson issue. This is leaving the door open for Reform which would be a disaster for our country.

Looks like it's going to be Angela Rayner as Labour's next leader. Guess that means she's served her time on the naughty step and it's thought they can bring her back on stage.

Still think we should have proportional representation - as otherwise we're left voting for "the lesser of all evils". In some parts of Britain at least that means some of us are left having to vote for "whoever has the best chance against one particular party". Which, thankfully, leaves me voting liberal these days - though it's the same political party that has got in every time since I moved to Wales and they get a pretty overwhelming number of votes - but I live in hopes...

Actually, it has turned out to be a 'good thing' that Mandelson was Ambassador to Trump, and here's why.
If he had been just some 'has been' politician, his name would not have stood out, in the way that it has, at this point in time.
We possibly would have missed the details of his betrayal and treachery. With millions of documents to explore, many of the disgusting criminals will get away with it.
Mandelson is in the full glare of our scrutiny now. And he will pay for what he has done.

I do think that many solid, hard working MPs ( of which mine is one) are appalled by the behaviour of a number of people in power.
Let us not forget the abused women named in the Epstein files. The key word is NAMED! I am waiting for other photos to emerge showing who else was enthralled by this odious, devious human.
Marina Hyde has written an excellent piece in The Guardian on this subject, well worth a read as it is balanced yet thought provoking .
