A thread for the 3 am crew

I’ve had 3 hours, but my painful leg has woken me. There’s rain on the Velux window, so I’ll stay in bed for a while.

I missed the comma between “doing something” and “catastrophic “. Doh! 😣

Good morning early birds, I have again been dozing, not sleeping for I guess a few hours. I think I'll get up and take myself off with my book to another bedroom. Must try not to wake o/h.

Had a very odd, dream full night. Perhaps it was seeing “Midsummer’s Night’s Dream” done by 12/13 yo children with dgd2 in it, did it!
Contrary to others, I find getting up and doing something catastrophic. But, as I have tinnitus which is very “loud” in the quiet of night, I have the radio on, barely audibly, and find that it helps, even if I’m awake or dozy but not asleep.

Woke at 2.20 but just laid there hoping to doze off again and I must of as next time I know it’s 4.20 so I put a load of washing on and back to bed with a cup of tea ☕️ and iPad for a bit.
Wonder what today has in store…happy Sunday all….

Up at 2.20am, boiled a ton of pasta, packed into Tupperware when cooled and stashed in the freezer for emergencies - or when I can't think of anything more original.

Now to conjure up a bolognese sauce. When you just cannot sleep you might as well do something with the wide-awake hours (although, in truth, I'd prefer to flake out on the settee.)

Well there I was fast asleep and DH jabbed me in the ribs with his elbow. Said I’d been calling him. Then went straight back to sleep…..Honestly!

I was so tired last night I was in bed by 9.30 so six hours isn’t bad.Hopefully will get a couple more hours.I need to go to bed later I think.
Thank you for this thread BlueBelle.Knowing so many wake early and have a few hours awake has made me realise it’s pretty normal and not the problem I thought it was.

An unexpected treat? DH was awake too, so now I have a cup of tea to lull me back to sleep. I’ll probably read for a bit and then drop off.

Just getting into bed now. I’ll watch a bit of Gogglebox while I finish my cup of tea and settle down. It’s been quite a productive Saturday.

Getting up definitely helps - just lying there make it worse, really. I have a hot milk and get a fresh HWB and check on online to see if something has been posted etc - sort of a contact thing if you live alone.

I always make a Twinings night time tea when I get up, it tastes nice, but whether or not it does any good is anyone’s guess.
I never look at my phone, I just read, and then usually go back to bed after an hour.
I’ve tried every possible cure for insomnia, nothing has ever worked, I’m on reflexology at the moment, but no progress yet.
But getting up takes the panic away

Very occasionally I take a Kalms night pill if I wake around 3 or 4. But I don't want to take valerian too often as, I believe, it becomes less effective with frequent use.

What is so good about Gransnet is that whatever problem you worry about...someone or many have the same. So you could fret about sleeplessness and then find it is so common. In our age group maybe. And possibly finding it is so common and mostly nothing to worry about, the pressure is off. Which may result in better nignts.

I was about and about all day yesterday and no naps .
I slept from about nine and then intermittently through the night,but actually only waking up properly a few minutes ago.

I don’t normally manage to nod off again but did today and have just woken up😱 unheard of!

That's the nice thing about popping in, in the night, or just reading, suddenly you are not alone.

I meant to join the thread at 2am when I found myself awake. Half of me wanted to get up for an hour, go downstairs with my book, which is a heavy Robert Galbraith's latest, but I'm always aware I might make a commotion and wake o/h and on 2nd thoughts, it's too cold right now. So I rolled over and had an unsatisfactory doze, half awake, half asleep. It's good to read of others broken sleep cycles, well not for them obviously, but possibly we feel a little less alone in our frustrations over getting a good night on a very intermittent basis.

Up and down several times last night but went to sleep directly each time. Woke at 5: 15. So not too bad.
Day out today… lunch in Cardiff near the Senedd, then theatre. So no afternoon nap.
Should be exhausted this evening .

The cat woke me at 5.30 although I suspect that I was 'coming to' already. He's a very polite cat and doesn't usually miow until I've stopped snoring (according to DH). My Fitbit tells me in exact detail how I slept and gives me marks for sleep quality. Today I got '86 good' which makes a nice change.
Some days I'm absolutely desperate to get to sleep from 8.30pm which is v antisocial. I wish I could push my sleep cycle round a bit and aim for the nirvana of 10-6. No luck so far.

I slept from 8pm until 10
Then before midnight until 4:10 then straight back until now.
On the whole a decent night.
It feels milder but I can’t hear rain.
I will stay in bed for now as when I do get up early it makes for a very long day.

I very occasionally have a codeine tablet, which I did last night and after falling asleep at 10.00, one quick loo trip at 12.30 I’ve slept through till 5.30, a miracle, waited till 6.00 and am now having a lovely warm strong cuppa of tea. I do wish I could sleep like this every night.

I don’t feel so isolated now I know I am part of the 03,00 am Crew. 👍
