Marks and Spencers has started doing limited range online to deliver to home (as far as I could see no click and collect, it may come soon - just started today - it includes certain small items which I was desperate for ...all ordered you just have to reset your password is all. 😊

I went looking as I wanted to know for myself:

Found out:
M n S are staying with Microsoft: they are also working with the Co-op on their new systems: they are clearly working very hard indeed.

They have said this, crucially as regards which sections of your date might have been compromised:

“Unfortunately, the nature of the incident means that some personal customer data has been taken, but there isno evidence that it has been shared. The personal data could include contact details, date of birth and online order history. However, importantly, the datadoes not include useable card or payment details, and it alsodoes notinclude any account passwords. For more detail, see our FAQs”

The full web page gives answers to very detailed questions people may have on this - well worth it for those with doubts/reassurance or questions - go here:

I was told from what I consider to be a reliable source that Marks was hacked for ten days before anyone noticed. Heads will roll if they haven’t already. The cost is vast, £300 million I believe.

If its wakened them up then thats good, isnt it ?
(probably done same for a lot of firms - Microsoft must be making a packet)

Oh..just got a message that Evri are delivering my M n S package early - this afternoon (good job I checked my email).

Getting their act together. They really do let one know the tracking very well. Hurray, vital underpinnings at last.

We do need to be cautious and concerned, of course, but in the world we live in, this could potentially happen to any business or organisation that have our details. We took the chance when we decided to shop online, and pay in store by card. I’m going to use cash more often now!

Wyllow3 Sat 14-Jun-25 18:52:54

It's those of us that can't get out to shops I guess that benefit most?

One important thing for me is to check our security card rating It's not viable as yet to get a "Secured" credit card in the UK, but but then you have to look for cards that have Section 75 or/and chargeback provision

All my info from Martin Lewis' site www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/

the page that is on security and chargeback

www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/section75-protect-your-purchases/

But thank goodness for google who at last answered what I wanted

"All UK credit cards issued by major providers like Visa, Mastercard, and American Express offer both Section 75 and Chargeback protection for purchases. Section 75, a legal protection under the Consumer Credit Act, applies to credit card purchases between £100 and £30,000.

Chargeback, while not a legal requirement, is a scheme provided by card issuers like Visa, Mastercard, and Amex, offering a way to reverse transactions for various issues.

I was relieved that my MnS credit card is fine, yes, I admit they have me all tied in, but I have other reasons

You get to talk to a real live person, long opening hours. I once run them in the night as my now ex had started spending loads on the card - a quick text alert, then I phoned them and they pulled his access tho it was borderline.

And they have substantial special needs support, helpful as it gets harder to manage

"M&S Bank provides support for customers with special needs or who require assistance managing their finances, including those with mental capacity limitations. They offer options to help customers and their trusted contacts manage finances, and they work with attorneys appointed through a Power of Attorney to manage accounts"

I'm sure other cards do offer these too but as long as its OK, leave well alone...

I’m also using Apple devices Wyllow3 but M&S aren’t.

I have received my first order, since they were back on-line, today.

You can't collect from their shops yet.

LaCrepescule Sun 15-Jun-25 05:29:25

I agree, their systems will be one of the safest now and don’t agree that they were doing everything to keep them safe before this happened.
Unfortunately cyber criminals can be very sophisticated and the biggest problem is their anonymity. They are absolute scum.

I just bought replacement socks, pants and nighties from Sainsbury's. The old M&S ones had done well but were needing replaced. Imagine my surprise to find the Sainsbury's ones better quality fabric and cheaper price than Marks. I wonder how many customers they've lost due to this?

Hey, thats good news. I have the order I made with 2 sizes on all the bras and one size to get back - will wait a bit until mine does it.

Wyllow3 Sun 15-Jun-25 14:12:00

Just to get access to the foodie goodies at the same time, naturally. smile

Ah - I always look in Sainsbugs as need more nighties, but they dont do the choice in longer ones that I like (ie about 4 ins below the knee). Yes on socks, a definite no on bra choices where I think MnS more or less beat most rivals on choice/quality

Yes, I know, I went on above about M n S using Microsoft.

Wyllow3 Sun 15-Jun-25 14:15:27

But I love apple, whats not to like....yes they cost more, but the protection from virus's for 30 year, thats quite something.

Wyllow3 Sun 15-Jun-25 14:16:35

As well as the way they assist in navigating new software and their updates - my new computer has self updating of operating systems which has to be just tops.

Whiff Sun 15-Jun-25 14:19:48

I placed my order of 2 pairs of trousers,pj bottoms and waffle dressing gown on the 10th the day I heard on the radio they where taking orders on line . Having it delivered. Only thing I couldn't get was the 2 bras I wanted

Wyllow3 Sun 15-Jun-25 15:17:30

So great they are online at last Whiff - and atm delivering to your door is just right for you.

Wyllow3 Sun 15-Jun-25 15:18:25

They sold out of the nighties I wanted so very much, people have been buying them in shops, which I cant do!

Whiff Sun 15-Jun-25 16:04:15

I had tried in shops even in Llandudno where I went on holiday last month but could get what I wanted. I rely on home delivery for most of my shopping as I can't carry anything to heavy plus hate going to a shop only to find they haven't got what I want . Plus I am lucky I have the same delivery drivers from different companies so they know to wait until I get to my door and if it's heavy they put my parcel into my hall. Home delivery makes my life easier.

Wyllow3 Sun 15-Jun-25 16:42:29

Ironically, Covid gave a boost for those who rely on the internet and home deliveries -the world comes to us, especially living alone with rellies not too close by.

PoliticsNerd Tue 17-Jun-25 07:50:35

They seem to have prioritised, not unreasonably, getting things into the shops.

I would have to go into a larger town nearby for clothes now but we have a Simply Food shop in our town. I used to be able to collect orders from there but now they are being delivered to your home address. I can see why as they are trying, first and foremost, to stock all the shops, including the Simply Food ones.

It must all be costing them a fortune and they really do seem to be doing all they can. I wish them well but also hope those who did this are caught.

It’s a worry these days, buying online, that many scammers. Yet people will throw away data every day in the form of Official letters- my friend throws prescriptions, hospital letters with all her information.
