shower screen cleaning help

I do use bar soap, but have only started to use that in the last couple of years in my campaign to reduce the amount of plastic in bathroom and kitchen. How does the soap I am using to wash myself get on to the walls of the shower?

We are in a hard water area but have a water softener system because we have solar panels on the roof which run water continually through pipes to heat our water and therefore can't get clogged up with limescale. (I'm not terribly convinced by it as I still have to descale the kettle every few weeks.)

Anyway, I have found a company that ships Delphis Eco out here to Germany and am ordering some. It costs a lot more, plus horrendous shipping charges (and maybe even customs fees when it gets here) So it had better be worth it!

Yep....tattygran - one of the posts earlier had me googling to see whether I'm in a hard water area and it came back with a reply of my postcode is a soft water area (thankfully). Prior to that all I'd known is the one thing Welsh Water gets right is at least they don't add fluoride to the water - well they gotta get summat right - considering they pollute our water currently and are forever out mending their useless pipes that were put down in this area.

Some of these posts are quite funny, obviously not from people who live on chalk! My shower quickly resembled Mother Shiptons cave when it got just a spray of ‘daily shower cleaner’
I dry it daily with a small hand towel, Viakal as necessary, but the biggest help is having an XP!

Every so often I take a lemon, cut in half, (remove pips!) into the shower and rub the glass doors fairly vigorously with said lemons. Rinse off then clear with a squeegee. This gets rid of all the scaley residue and smells good too.

We have had our glass shower cabin for over 20!years now. For much of that time I was working and the boys were at home and showering at all times of the day. None of us cleaned the shower after use.

We have a build-up of limescale which I have been fighting for at least five years now. I have tried all kinds of scourers, vinegar, proprietary shower cleaners, industrial limescale treatments, scrapers and everything from organic to radical methods.

It is just getting worse. I've even thought we will have to replace the glass soon.

The moral of the story is: clean is after every use. And dry thoroughly.
Water is the enemy - that's where the limescale is hiding.

Jacky, the buildup could be not just limescale. If you are using bar soap (made from proper soap), and have hard water, this will combine with limescale and make very persistent residues in the shower (and anywhere you use soap and water) . My solution was to switch to shower gels and liquid soaps instead of soap. Short of getting a professional cleaner with professional gadgets, I have found nothing that really gets those lime soap residues off.

While still in the shower I spray rinse the glass with cold water and then I use an old flannel to wipe off the water each time. I use white vinegar when cleaning of the bathroom.

I can't imagine anything worse than cleaning the shower screen after every use, while stark naked and shivering. Plus I can't reach high enough to the top or low enough to the bottom to do a proper job. And that is just one daily task - quite apart from the kitchen sink and worktops, the loo and basin, the floors, cooking, shopping, washing, hoovering etc. Getting older also means "slower" to me so I would be spending half the day, every day, doing these "little" jobs. Hubby can't even wash up properly and seems to make a mess of everything he touches. He sleeps in a separate room, doesn't hang up clothes, put shoes away, make his bed or even open his curtains. I struggle to keep the important things clean and as much of the living rooms reasonably tidy but hubby thinks the floor is an extension of the table.

I gave up years ago.

Citric acid is the best I think
Just a few spoons dissolved in water and put in a water spray bottle. Spray surfaces , leave a minute or too , wipe over and rinse.

Another vote for spraying with daily shower spray every time anyone has a shower. Our favourite here is Method.

I'm another lover of Mr Muscle. Just spray it on after a shower and everything is sparkling. I've tried many other similar sprays but I always go back to Mr Muscle. Simply the best!

Have used Viakal in the past but now live in area with very soft water and never seem to have a problem

I use aTesco daily shower spray and sometimes Viakill which is spray on wipe off - brilliant.

Squeegie on glass and tiles and base then finish off by drying more odd bits like chrome with a towel that is on its way to the laundry. We are lucky to live in soft water area.

I use a squeegee then spray shower shine over it (Aldi's is cheapest but does a good job shining the glass) Easy to do. No shower curtain sticking to your body

Every two or 3 days I spray the inside of the shower screen with limescale preventer/remover, wipe down with a sponge then rinse off using the shower head. Stays clean and shiny. Easy to do when you are already in the shower and wet! I do the same with the wall tiles.

The battery operated Karcher hand held machine is brilliant- it sucks up all the water in minutes- can be easily emptied and also has a rechargeable battery. Never had to wipe the glass clean with anything else. Was recommended by the plumber who put the shower in.

I use a mixture of white vinegar, water and a squirt of washing up liquid. I spray it on, then wipe with a squeezee, then dry with a micro fibre cloth. I don't do it after each shower though, just when it's showing water marks

I also use viakal and a squeegee the kind you use on cars. Squeegee during the week after shower then viakal every couple of weeks wouldn't use anything else.

I swear by viakal on our shower screen great on taps all timescale prone things and particularly the shower head just spray leave for a moment or two wipe clean and buff
