I'm sorry you had such a rude Doctor. I don't think it's a sign of the times, I think it's individuals and there are some very rude Doctors. I posted recently about a very distressing experience with a Consultant (also paid privately, in desperation). I think he was ageist, sexist, a misogynist, arrogant and it left me in a state of shock (and very upset).
In comparison, I was having follow ups with a respiratory Consultant (NHS) who was wonderful, talked to me like a human being, took me seriously and bent over backwards to try and work out the best resolution for me - giving me options. And his letters to my GP all started with "I saw this pleasant lady today".
Having said that I do think bedside manner has generally gone out of the window with GP's! I feel like I'm an annoyance just for speaking to them at all! I waited three weeks for a phone consultation recently, had a lot of things that needed to be dealt with (a lot happened in a couple of months) and knew I only had 10 minutes! As it turned out I only had 3 minutes! I got an abrupt "Is it your knees" I said yes. And then told I'd be referred to a clinic. I didn't get to say well actually I can't use my right arm either and am trying to get rid of a pressure sore!
