Thoughts on sniffing

Can be annoying I agree but other half does his "gruffing" as I call it and constantly clearly his throat and drives me mad.

2 words....Hate it!!

My dentist sniffed (behind her mask) through my last appointment. She clearly had a very nasty cold. I spent my time wishing she had taken the day off sick.

I'm a sniffer due to allergies 😕 I also sneeze a lot, really annoying for my son but even antihistamine doesn't totally stop it. Blowing your nose means you should really wash your hand immediately, not always possible.

Oh it’s sooooo annoying! Saw Michelle Obama giving a speech yesterday and she kept sniffing?

Always offer a tissue, once it was to a man on a Lisbon train, no language needed..…he took the hint and moved to another seat.

I had my sinuses at the top of my nose(?) enlarged to stop them being blocked. Thankfully, it was a success.

This is what happened to me the last time I blew my nose, so apologies, I’ll carry on sniffing, as discretely as I can.

These people might all have had colds, or be allergic to your deoderant, shampoo, or cat and dog hairs.

Personally, I would not offer an adult a hankie because he or she was sniffing, but I might well ask if they are allergic to cat hairs, as I know my clothes cannot be entirely free of them, and I also know how troublesome allergies can be.

I might well give a small child a hankie, or offer one to the grown-up witht the child, though.

Basically, I think good manners requires us to ignore people sniffing, passing wind or hiccoughing in public. They are presumably not doing it for the fun of it, or annoy us.

I experienced the same recently on a lengthy train journey. I spent the whole journey pondering should I, shouldn't I offer a tissue. Would that be too rude, would he appreciate it, would he be embarrassed. But I didn't. I just suffered it. Thankfully I'm not a sniffer but I am a dripper. All the time, all seasons . It's worse when out in the fresh air. Constantly drip, wipe, drip, wipe all day long. I always carry a stash of tissues in every pocket, every bag etc. But I don't think it causes an irritation to anyone, I hope. Well, no one has ever mentioned it

Having a cold and sniffing a lot drives me mad, especially when it's me having a cold annd doing the sniffing.

It started on Friday and I've managed to get through at least a box of tissues a day since.

My mum was a dry sniffer, it was an anxiety issue, dont think she realised she did it, I never mentioned it, but could get irritating if I was stressed and ratty...wine helped, me, not mum😂

I have a friend who has a little dry nervous sniff. I know it's just her and not something she's even aware of doing. The sniffing I object sounds more like sniveling - stuff is being sucked back in, usually swallowed but, on one recent disgusting occasion on Leith Walk, spat back out on the middle of the pavement. Yuk, yuk and yuk again!

I loathe sniffing with a passion. Having given music lessons to pupils of all ages for forty years, I soon learned that it was a good idea to always have a box of tissues to hand. Children and even teenagers never seem to have a handkerchief or tissue to hand when they have a cold, so I always give them one. It is not uncommon for them to protest that they are alright, but my reply is always that I am not going to spend the next half hour sitting next to them sniffing. They give in to the inevitable, but l have lost count of the number of times I have been offered the used tissue back again. Yuck. I tell them to put it in their pockets or up a sleeve in case they need it later. One summer's day, I had my peripatetic hat on in a school. One boy, who was aged around twelve at the time, came into my room sniffing away. He told me that it was alright as it was only hayfever. I told him that it was not alright as I didn't want to hear his sniffing for the next half hour. I told him to get some toilet paper and use that. He reluctantly agreed, but as he was leaving the room wiped his nose on his sleeve. I knew he came from a very nice home, having met his parents, so I asked him what his mother would have thought had she seen him do that. He had the grace to look abashed.

Baggs so impressed with your style. I hate sniffing and move away from sniffers if I can. I did once ask a colleague if she could stop sniffing, she was so sorry as she didn't realise she was doing it. On flights I always have ear plugs in my bag in case I'm sat next to a sniffer.

Nah, my disability money won't stretch to that by the time I've got my acrylic nails and latest iPhone.

My best friend is a dripper, when we are outdoors, she wipes her nose constantly also indoors at times

My late partner was a blower so that was OK,

but... they both open their hankies/tissues to inspect what is in there, often nothing but at times there would be a good result, they would then proceed to smooth the hanky out neatly and fold it for further use. That absolutely used to turn my stomach. I use a tissue once and discard it and as for hankies, they are a total no no for me. Snot collectors I call them full of germs and as for washing them with my whites urgh!!!!

I am afraid I am a sniffer! I have had sinus and allergy problems since I was a small child. I have seen numerous ENT specialists, had scans, x-rays and everything the medical profession can throw at me to no avail. I cannot blow my nose, suffer with numerous infections and the only relief I get sometime is to sniff. I know it is disgusting and I do not like to hear anyone doing it however I do have sympathy for those who do.

They should lock all of us sniffers in a room together, with no background noise.

Then we could all drive each other mad.

Perhaps special restaurants and holiday camps for sniffers? Maybe sponsored by Andrew?
