Spring into summer FALL back to Winter

Maybe its because of all those cowboy/Westerns films I use to watch.

I incurred a double fracture of my leg one fall, in October 2013, to be precise. I prefer autumn, not fall!

To add to Rosie's post, autumn was indeed called fall in England up until the 1600's. Autumn (deriving from the fancier sounding French word) then became fashionable. It was during the 1600's that English settlers went to America and, unaffected by the imported "new" word, they continued to use the term "fall". Before the word "fall" become common usage, the English called the season "harvest" but this was deemed too confusing.

Just to add some pedantry, the names of the seasons are not capitalised. They are correctly written as spring, summer, autumn and winter.
