'End of life' songs - is yours on the list?

At my sisters funeral I requested they play Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye by Beth Nielsen Chapman and it seemed to go down very well - it's on the list for me too!

Indigo ‘Soave Sia Il Vento' would be my second choice. In fact, I might have to sit up suddenly and say “hang on I’ve changed my mind!”

I've chosen my funeral pieces, and my husband and daughters know what I want. For my grand entrance, Elizabethan Serenade by Don Goodman ( I always wanted to walk down the aisle to that when I got married, but we had a Registry Office wedding with no music so this would be my only chance!) For the middle "reflection bit", Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper (to let my girls know I will always be looking out for them) and for the exit piece it would have to be Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison - such an uplifting song and I do have brown-ish eyes!

I'm not sure what I'd want to listen to in my last moments. My all-time favourite song is "When you Get Right Down to it" by Ronnie Dyson, but somehow I don't think the words quite fit the moment! Maybe "Spanish Eyes" by Al Martino - my Mum's favourite, because I'm sure she will be waiting for me when the time comes...

We were astounded when my sister’s funeral ended with ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’. She was an old-fashioned soul and we had no idea she had ever heard of Bob Dylan!

Another friend who died very suddenly at the age of 64 was serenaded with ‘When I’m 64’ by The Beatles, which was both poignant and uplifting.

I love and prefer classical music , but it can tug at my heart strings .
So it's Jimi Hendrix and a bottle of cognac !

My old mum got stuck with hymns at her funeral, she was no age when she died so was long before people got to choose tracks of their favourite music, but at the wake my uncle played Glen Miller ‘In The Mood’ on the stereo and I could see her and my old dad dancing round the living room with the old 78 playing. He danced with my auntie then others got up. It was exactly what she would have wanted. 🙏🏾

My DH insisted one of the songs at his funeral would be “When the girl in your arms is the girl in your heart” by Cliff. It was for me.
His exit songs were Not Fade Away by the Stones (he was a lifelong fan) and Thunderstruck by AC/DC.
Chocolatelovingran I am so with you. I hate I did it my Way. It’s one of the worst songs ever.

I got my only ever 3 points for speeding listening to Hotel California Jax. I say listening, but I was singing at the top of my voice!

Hang on, this thread is not about music at funerals, it is about the music that we want played as we die, which is something entirely different.

Conversations on here evolve and meander, like they do in real life.

If I get the choice, I'll have Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto - I've loved it for most of my life and it's seen me through some tough times including a very long root canal session! So I can't think of anything I'd like more, except perhaps the soundtrack album of South Pacific ...

I don't particularly want any music played when I die, thanks.
It might become an ear worm for eternity.
