Yes, and elephants. Welfare standards are low to non existent. There are dedicated animal welfare organisations invested in the region and my cousin (a vet) travels there several times a year to work with The Donkey Sanctuary. Posters may wish to google and read up on their excellent work.

I don't think Viyella is the same as it was. It was bought out in the 1980s by Coats Paton. Not sure if they are still around. It was part of the portfolio of someone from QPR (football) for a very short while and maybe now is an Austin Reed label.

These iconic old brands ardoften just a name now.

Your intensions were good Boz but i didn't like items, they looked poorly finished, no style and prefer to buy from this country. Our workers are paid a reasonable wage and in safe conditions. I prefer to pay a little more for quality and add interest with accessories. Don't buy anything with air miles if i can help it.

I buy very few clothes, no more than one or two things a year, generally tops. Something has to wear out before I replace it. I live a very quiet life nowadays and my old ‘going out’ things and tailored items I have had for years. My long black ‘work’ coat is all of 15 years old and still in perfect condition despite the daily commute - it was an expensive buy but the cost per wear must be tiny. Not British though, Italian.

My favourite and most worn jacket is over 20 years old, probably 25, made by Viyella and still good - it has a zip out lining so can be worn all year. British - I think they only make men’s shirts now.

Quite a few of my jumpers and tops for wearing with jeans are actually men’s ones. They tend to be a little bit longer than ladies’ and also plain - I don’t do prints or frills. I like Sunspel (almost everything made in Britain) and Joseph Turner, a Yorkshire company manufacturing in Britain and using British wool. Sunspel are pricey but so well made and last well. Both have plenty of choice and good reductions in their sales.

The company Germansheperdsmum mentioned are ethical, but it's not practical to buy one jumper every two years for most families.

Even Marks and Spencer (gasp) no longer buy British.

It is a great shame that, although they import from all these countries, their regional stores mainly stock rather boring clothes. Still I suppose they have to stock what sells best to their clientele in order to stay solvent.

Yes I do Deedaa😄 I had 2 outfits that I loved literally until they died (wore out). Quilted bolero waist coat with full length matching skirt ( and obligatory 70's boots, no matter the weather🤣). With a paisley pattern decorating them.
Oh did I think I was the bees knees.
My first car, a decent wage, free to go and do as I liked.
Paisley pattern and cheesecloth will always remind me of those happy days.

Foreign made clothes are hardly new. I was buying a lot of Indian made clothes in the 60s and 79s. Remember all that cheesecloth we were swathed in?

The thing they have in common is not exactly cheap.

Obviously also the tailors - Jermyn Street etc. and shirt makers such as Emma Willis.
And Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing and the beautiful Eas Fors.

I buy from reputable companies, but it's not often I see a Made in Britain label these days.

They both look as though they have been made from the bags of offcuts on The Great British Sewing Bee.

Reminds me of those patchwork bedspreads, but alot of folk like them.
Generally clothes that are cheap are made in China, some people can't afford anything else. So no judgement from me.
