What spelling mistake do you hate/notice the most?

I received a flyer from a Reform candidate recently which had one glaring misuse of an apostrophe.

I circled and corrected the mistake and sent it straight back requesting they don't misuse the English language in future.

I wish I’d done that with a leaflet I once picked up in the library advertising a taught MA course in Eng Lit at our local university. It contained two very basic spelling mistakes! Not much of an advertisement for their English department!

The mis-spelling and mis-pronunciation that annoys me is 'mischievious' which should be 'mischievous'.
When I asked a class of mature students to spell 'definite', more than half thought it was 'definate'. Then I asked them to spell 'finite' which they spelt correctly and the penny dropped! I hope that for the rest of their lives they haven't reverted to their old ways!

Auto-correct is very irritating, particularly when you can't edit your Gransnet posts!

All of the above. Bad grammar and poor spelling really grate on my nerves.

As long as I can understand what’s meant, the spelling mistakes don’t bother me. I’m happy someone still wants to communicate with me.

My daughter is dyslexic, when she is very tired her spelling is wonderful. Clods in the sky is now a family favourite, yesterday she was busy iorning!

The way I was taught to remember how to spell necessary was "one "C"ollar, two "S"leeves!

As an English lecturer I came across all sorts but the worst I think is from my own, privately educated daughter who insists on pluralising with an apostrophe, for example baby's for more than one baby or the Miller's for friends of hers. Apostrophes should only be used for omission or possession and not plurals. I keep telling her but to no avail. Money well spent!

I sometimes put the subtitles on the TV so I can relax and watch without my hearing aids in the evening. Recently, anarchist came up on the sub titles as Anna kissed.
