Flower gifts.

I always buy pots of daffodils in bud from Waitrose every spring, but this year several pots just haven't flowered. Never had that before. I will give them a while longer before they go out into a sheltered part of the garden to die down.

I wonder once I have replanted the bulbs if they will bloom next year.....as bulbs from previous years have always done.

For the OP, yes, that's unreasonable. Be grateful someone sent you something.

Our colour schemes are mostly bland, so flowers don't clash.

Oh, did you say your scheme includes Orange? Blues and purples should be fine with Orange (lots of colours are not) so can't you work with that??? I think you've found a new definition of the ultimate first-world problem?!

Why have you got a "colour scheme "? I would love to receive flowers of any colour; even a bunch of dandelions would be given pride of place should my dd or dgs give them to me.

I had a lovely bouquet from Bloom & Wild from our oldest daughter for Mother's Day - mauve freesias and snapdragons, bronze crysanths (my favourite) and pale orange roses. It may sound weird but it was a successful combinatiin, especially with three kinds of foliage. The bouquet was called Delilah, which made me laugh, as my seduction days are long past. I think a bit of total colour contrast can work.

DS sent me a Bloom & Wild bouquet for MD and my heart sank as I’d had a disaster from them in the past and no reply to my complaint. But no, they were absolutely beautiful and still going strong except for a few of the roses. It has never occurred to me to think whether flowers went with my decor and I know what people I send to regularly like. I send to others what I think they might like - maybe I’ve been getting it wrong all my life! 😳

You are fine ann, just as you are. You have had a difficult time lately and are entitled to share something with your friends.

And I did say I knew I was unreasonable.

I really was delighted with my flowers from my GD.
She is lovely and a great friend and helper to me.
I just wondered that if you did know the recipient’s colour scheme you would try to match it which I would.
Just call me picky and over the top but never ungrateful.😉

Recent flowers for Mother’s Day.

I love to receive flowers as they cheer me up. Who cares about colours schemes? Isn’t that a bit ungrateful? Sorry but I am grateful for anything that I get and the colour scheme goes out of the window.

It's the thought that counts.
Maybe we should change the decor to match the flowers? I am serious
I once painted a room to match the colour palette of a favourite poster.

Never! I match the flowers to the occasion and the likes and dislikes of the recipient, but never their decor.

My late mum loved daffodils and carnations, my lovely step daughter adores lilies, some of my dear friends like wild type flowers.

Whenever I receive flowers I’m always excited and grateful and they really cheer me up.

I’ve never given my decor a thought, as flowers do have a pretty short shelf life!

Has anyone else noticed that daffodils don't seem to be lasting any time at all? I bought a couple of bunches and after four days they were dying. The DiL brought me a big bunch for Mother's Day and they barely lasted three days. And, of course, they have no scent at all.

I complained to Dd2 that I thought that daffodils were not lasting so well. So she send me this. They are still going strong.

There are a few people who have particular likes and dislikes in the flower world in my social sphere so I try to remember those - stargazer lilies for MiL, calla lilies for DiL, nothing with a strong scent for DD - but otherwise I just hope they like them.

The selections that are pre-packed in a container of water are my usual choice to avoid the faff of finding a vase etc.
I hadn't thought about whether they fitted in with the background I'm afraid!

I love the thought and the skill of the florist but seldom the actual blooms.

I live opposite a florist and when the artic lorry from Holland is opened you can see it's packed with thousands of tubes of tulips and roses looking like shelves of paint tins. They have no scent whatsoever.
It always makes me think what food could have been grown instead.

I love garden flowers, and wild flowers but anything by post er no thanks.

Why don't you just loosen up and enjoy a lovely bunch of flowers and the love for you that your GD obviously has.

I am just grateful for any type of flowers I am given, ( do prefer a potted flowering plant) as I hate to see beautiful flowers dying, but I am still grateful for the thought.

It never occured to me to split a massive bouquet into different bunches and put them into smaller vases like you do, it is a fantastic idea. I just put the bunch I receive into one large cut glass vase.

I sent a good friend some flowers last week as a ‘thank you’ for a very generous gift.

She has a huge house, very well off, I have no idea of colour schemes, so just ordered a small, stylish , ‘elegant’ hand tied bunch in whites and creams, just stipulated no lilies as her DH hates the smell, and nothing gaudy.

She thanked me when they arrived and said they were lovely. No idea if they were as she lives away, so couldn’t see them.

When I order flowers (usually for my sister) I arrange the delivery from a reputable florist local to the recipient. The colour scheme of their home isn’t considered, as I select mostly seasonal flowers. One of my lovely granddaughters bought me flowers recently, chosen by her, and I was delighted.

Really? Consider yourself blessed that someone thought of you - and don't be picky. If we, here, had sent you flowers, we would not have known your colour scheme, and you would have complained about us, too. Just a thought - tie a scarf around the vase, to make it bend in with your colour scheme (if you have a scarf that matches your decor, that is).

I try to remember what the recipient’s color scheme is and try to tie it in with the Holiday, Season or Event of my bouquet.

And sometimes I order what I like - and what’s readily available at the florist. These days I think most people are grateful and appreciate getting fresh flowers delivered, no matter what! At least I am.
