It’s so different than in our teens or when young women. Pornography seems to be the way youngsters ‘learn’ about sex- which I find difficult not to find horrifying.
100,000 vacancies in our care system
Last night we watched the film Northern Comfort on Netflix. It’s supposed to be a modern comedy about a group of people on a fear of flying course getting stranded in Iceland. Our granddaughter who is 15 is staying with us, and the film is a 15. I expected the usual raw language that is endemic in everything nowadays, but didn’t expect full frontal male nudes on a character’s phone and to my horror a scene where a man gives another man oral sex watched by his girlfriend. Why are film makers deliberately including perversion sandwiched in a so called comedy film ?
Pornography is just that, it shouldn’t be in a film rated for fifteen years olds. Our young people are being corrupted by people who are morally degenerate. I am cancelling Netflix today.

^I don’t think you should call gay sexual acts perversion^
The OP didn't.
However, the girlfriend of one of the men watching him and another man having sex is rather unusual.
Just watching the news. Another two 16 year olds convicted of murder but cannot be blamed because they are children.
A 17 year old rapist cannot be named because he is a child.
But posters on here think that it's fine for 15 year olds to watch what would have been considered pornography not long ago.
The more the boundaries are pushed, the more it seems normalised and the more women and girls are coerced into doing things they might prefer not to.

Whether we like it or not, once the genie is out of the bottle, you can't put it back. This kind of stuff is out there and whether you approve of it or not, teenagers are watching it. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it's there - and the best way to deal with it to use it to have a conversation with the young person about it.
The description of the scene sounds straigh out of the porn playbook. Its influence is not a good one.

Yet the uproar from some parents about their children/young teens learning about sex, relationships and sexuality is a whole other conversation. Either you teach them yourself, allow teachers to teach it age-appropriately in schools or they "learn" stuff off the internet. Which they're going to access anyway. Probably.
Well, if could be an opportunity to have a chat with a teen, around expectations, contraception, sex in general.

I don’t think it’s up to grandparents have that sort of discussion with their grandchildren.
No, you're right.
I hadn't thought of that.

It’s good they you stayed with the program so you could tell us how awful it is 🤔
I’m reminded of my mother when Bouquet of Barbed Wire was on.
Every week when I saw her it was did you see that last night no I didn’t. But she then went on and on telling me how salacious it was. 🤦🏼♀️
I feel quite shocked that people genuinely believe oral sex, with or without someone watching, is “perverted” or “pornagraphic”.
As I stated earlier, I have no desire to watch anyone else having sex, nor do I wish to watch gratuitous sex scenes with my children or grandchildren on TV.
But I also don’t want my own children to ever feel sex, between consenting adults, is somehow wrong or dirty.
I had all the fact of life chats, including sex, and consent and when they were younger puberty and keeping themselves safe. This was reinforced by good and age appropriate education at Primary and Secondary School.
I guess the message here is to check which films or TV programmes are appropriate for us to watch with teens and accept, for better or worse, that things have changed.
I’m still far more concerned about violence, stabbings, the number of youngsters losing their lives and rape, than I am about consensual sex.
When my daughter was about 15, we settled down to watch "Queer as Folk".
Well, that was quite an eye opener!
and three pages already!

Haha. Learnt a lot from watching that. Heartbreakingly brilliant series. Keep meaning to watch it again.
It was very good, I agree, once we'd got over the shock.
I agree with the poster and don’t agree with a lot of what others consider ordinary life for most teen ages and certainly don’t agree with normalising anal sex. Thing a lot agree just to be down there with the kids which they can’t be,
If they lower the bar any more we will all be in the gutter.

The scene where a man is giving oral sex to another man watched by his girlfriend is perverted. Not the act itself but the viewing.
Personally I would rather not watch others having either straight or gay sex in a film or anywhere else and it's time children aren't able to view these things on their phones.
It is voyeurism and is defined as a perversion.

Have heard of Bouquet of Barbed Wire but never seen it. Just looked and I noticed Trevor Eve was in it. He was also in one where he had an affair with someone's daughter... Ah, A Sense of Guilt.
There's something about him and the characters he plays, for sure! 🤣

A 15 year old can easily be sexually active
Just putting this fact out there
No-one's questioning that, are they?
It is a question of what is within the boundaries and what an under-age girl should be persuaded by others is normal sexual behaviour.

I didn't 'stay with the program' like your mother did (should be programme).
As I said, I wanted to see what the BBC and ITV are feeding our teenagers these days, something we should all be concerned with. I watched the first episode of the BBC series but only a few minutes of the ITV series. You cannot give an opinion on something without at least seeing some of it, but believe me, I do not want to see any more.

Exactly!
Crikey I loved Trevor Eve. A sense of guilt was quite creepy if I remember correctly. Older man with a quite young girl? It's absolutely fine to voice concerns about TV, we now look at much of the content that was seemed ok in the past and realise it wasnt. This era wont be any different.
My guess is in the future we will view the access children have to the internet, etc in the same way we view the past message that smoking was healthy.
At 15, though legally still a child and underage, I’m not suggesting a large percentage of 15 year olds are actually having sex, but the majority of them will be having discussions about sex, will possibly be having relationships and will have been kissed
Oh, shock, horror! Been kissed at 15, well I never!
I don't think the discussion is about kissing. 💑
I'm more concerned that the OP appears to be sending out the message to her GD that sexual acts between two men are depraved or perverted. really MissInterpret?. I find that strange.
I am shocked Fair2good. And many will agree with you. Doesn't make us narrow minded prudes. I watched a little bit of Naked Attraction this week. What is the world coming to?
I feel sorry for young generations.

Yes, this!!
I am shocked thst many older women think it's fine for children to view what is pornograhy.
The sexual practices people get up to in private is their own business as long as it is consensual. Pornography is available for those who wish to view it.
However, some posters do not seem to understand the difference between that and the term pornography. Including it in mainstream TV programmes, film, calling it comedy and giving it a 15 certificate is wrong. It is a form of grooming.
Girls are under enough pressure as it is.

I still love Trevor Eve! 🤣
It's a good job we're not in France, some folk here would have a coronary! I remember going to France on the French Exchange and watching TV there. Quite explicit romance scenes to which nobody batted an eyelid! I was 13.
Ultimately we all have a responsibility to be mindful of what our children are watching on the internet via laptops etc (I know I was quite forward in badgering mine ensuring they weren't watching anything they shouldn't be, whether that was sex, violence, bad language etc).and also them knowing they can talk to parents about anything they need to. I do think young people nowadays are far more open to conversations about sex, sexuality and relationships than I ever was when I was at school.
