Good Morning Sunday New Years Eve 31st December 2023

Good morning all and there’s ‘no’ weather here in Essex.

Yesterday the Ice Show was brilliant, very spectacular! A long day , lots of hanging around at the O2 and then couldn’t find the coach when we came out, wandered around in the rain, but eventually found our transport. Poor DD was exhausted but pleased we went. The cost of the merchandise on sale was exorbitant! Little DGD was extremely good and didn’t ask for anything. ‘Father Christmas brought me loads’, she said 😇.

Today ds1 will come round early to take the outside lights down and put the decs up in the loft for us. We don’t want to leave it til next weekend , so todays the day.

Roast chicken for lunch and a restful afternoon 🤞. Reading my book and snoozing I think. Might stay up for the New Year , we’ll see! 🥂. Happy celebrations to those who do. 🍾🎆🎇.

Let’s hope 2024 is better/good for us all. 🙏

Good morning Mick and everybody from a clear-skied Carlisle. The nearly full moon was shining when I pulled the blind up.
It's a welcome change from yesterday. I went out early for a few things, it was still dark but dry but as I reached the garden centre it started raining. It rained all day, often heavily. The garden centre remained deserted whilst I was there, it's normally full of folk treating themselves to a full English on a Saturday morning. They'd probably realised what a miserable, cold, wet day it was and decided to stay in their cosy beds! I was just there for some plant pot covers and saucers and, for once, found no plants to tempt me.
My foray into the delicatessen for venison steaks was unsuccessful , I expect they'd all been snaffled up for Christmas so I treated myself to some local lamb and local bacon instead, the latter is the only bacon I can find that doesn't have white stuff seep out of it when cooked. I went home and enjoyed a bacon sarnie for lunch.
A Tesco delivery arrived in the afternoon accompanied by two people not the usual one. They told me Tesco had cut the number of vans down, fewer deliveries are being booked.
Today, I might venture into the garden, I have two flowering heathers that would look better in the borders. Apart from that, I intend to have an idle day reading the papers, magazines and books that are accumulating. In the evening, I shall probably resume binge-watching the new Reacher series, it's not too mentally challenging!
I won't be staying up celebrating, if any of you are, have a good time, and have a pleasant day everyone.

Good morning from a wet and windy Oxfordshire, we had power cuts most of yesterday evening, when it went off at 11.30 we went to bed, it’s on again now, but I’ll do a cottage pie for dinner tonight, I have some small gas hobs that I’ll fetch from the garage, if the power is off we can still have something hot to eat. If I cook it early I won’t have any way of heating it up, no gas in the village, so all electric cooker here which I hate.
MissOops will be here with the dog later as they will be surrounded by fireworks, we don’t usually hear any so fingers crossed.p as the dog freaks out and becomes very stressed.
Thank you Mick for opening each morning for the last year, it’s been appreciated.
What’s the saying ‘ this year has been worse than the year before, but probably better than the year to come’
Let’s prove them wrong.

Quiet night in this evening our days of partying no longer appeal will watch the fireworks from the bedroom window.

Another wet day in West Oxfordshire, last night the rain was torrential. I long for dry, cold, bright days rather than this never ending rain.
We are not much into big New Year celebrations and are unlikely to stay up, but I hope everyone who is celebrating has a great time.
Today will be another wet dog walk, I will try out a new chicken recipe from my new book and once again, light a big fire. It'll be back to work on Tuesday so I'm making the most of it!

Good morning all - North Leicestershire is soggy but no rain at the moment.

Yesterday was not quite what I expected. My friend who has lymphoma has become very agitated in the last few days so I went and kept her company while her DH had his regular dialysis. She became more irrational and, eventually, her son called 111 who suggested that 999 would be more appropriate. I then spent the afternoon with them until the paramedics turned up. It was so sad to see my lovely, polite and very ladylike friend become so different. Also, my brother has been diagnosed with viral pneumonia- hoping 2024 gets better.

Happy new year everyone - I doubt I'll make it to the bells.

Luckily our very chilled greyhound will snooze through it all. I will go to bed with my book

Lucky you Gala 😀 not that I am complaining any more but my four previous greyhounds were quivering wrecks at the sound of fireworks, thunder or indeed the clay pigeon shooting outside the village when the wind was in that direction. I used to hate “ Bonfire fortnight” followed by Eid, Divali and then New Year because they were so terrified - panting and hyperventilating.
Rosie, fortunately is like your hound and long may they both stay that way. Happy New Year!

Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow.

I had a nightmare drive in the snow yesterday. I was wandering round Sainsbury's looking for bargains, when I checked my phone. To my surprise, my children had sent photos of the snow at their homes. It was dry when I first went out!
There was even one of Dollie in pyjamas and wellies, watching the bus stuck on the hill.
Getting home was scary, with no gritters out.
Our street was almost impossible to navigate, with my car at one point, facing sideways.😱
Not good for my cardiac health!!

We are having a family lunch today at DD's. Her village was snowed in yesterday and she was upset, thinking lunch would have to be cancelled.
DIL is still very unwell, we are quite concerned. At Mass last night, Dollie spent the whole time cuddling in and holding my hand, worrying about mummy. DS is being very circumspect, so we are keeping our in counsel, as he can be quite nippy. We will just be there for them.

In the past, we have always stayed up until midnight and celebrated with our neighbours/ friends, but DH and I have decided not too this rubbish year. There has been so much sadness and stress.

Good morning from a damp & dank Sefton. My iPad has been very uncooperative of late but seems to be behaving itself this morning. Like me it is getting old.
Christmas Day lunch went fairly well, I only forgot the stuffing, cranberry sauce & roast potatoes - rescued by OH who threw them in the (basic "I only do chips") air fryer whilst we had our starter. Returned from a trip to the sales with an all singing all dancing air fryer & cosy jogging bottoms & hoodie. And at some point in the week we had a family lunch in town followed by a very raucous but thoroughly enjoyable rock panto which had a very tenuous link to Cinderella. It seems to have been a week of Sundays. As grandMattie so rightly said it's very discombobulating. I will be glad to get back to my regular routine & knowing what day it is. A quiet day ahead until the fireworks start. Luckily our very chilled greyhound will snooze through it all. I will go to bed with my book.

DD2 is here. We will go to church this morning. I am reading a lesson.
After that we will have croissants and coffee then if it’s still dry go off for a drive.

Good morning, it’s damp and mild here on the edge of the Cotswolds.
Yesterday I pootled and faffed and got little done 🤷🏼‍♀️, not that it mattered.
Today a dog walk, I will do roast chicken for dinner and finish sorting my art materials in preparation for starting an online course tomorrow with coloured pencils. I haven’t used them since childhood!

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire but dry at the moment. I have stopped trying to second guess the weather and I think the forecasters have too - they are making it up as they go along! On Friday I emptied eighteen gallons of water out of my butt, and yesterday, it was full again. DD and the menfolk are expected later for a roast dinner. I will make a steamed sponge pudding for “afters”; we haven’t had one for ages.
I won’t stay up to see in the New Year, but wish the very best for 2024 to you all.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Yesterday's snow hasn't settled so it's just wet outside.
I haven't decided what I'll do today. I have enough supplies for a siege and my local newsagents will probably be open throughout.
Tonight I'll light the fire, watch tv and knit but not stay up for the Bells.
I quite enjoy being antisocial 😄

Good morning from Cornwall where strong winds and rain are forecast. Dug out my childhood doll's house yesterday from my work room where I'd been using it as a cupboard. I want to renovate it as an art project; a lovely challenge as it needs a new roof and stairs, upper floor and all the furniture, which I'll construct.

Today I'll pack away my Christmas decorations and restore some order to my workroom which in my haste to find the doll's house I have left in rather a jumble.

Where did that year go? It flew by for me and already there's another one around the corner!!

Good morning from Glasgow. It’s still dark outside and my guess is we will see rain again at some point. Yesterday’s snowfall was soon washed away by this never ending rain.

We had a pleasant afternoon yesterday dog sitting the adorable Millie, yellow lab who is now 9mths and huge. DD1 was shopping at our local Waitrose and collecting her steak pie order from our local butcher. When she asked if we would mind having Millie for a while we were more than happy to do so. It was lovely to hear a dog padding around the house again wandering between DH’s now downstairs bedroom and the kitchen before settling down in her favourite spot at ours.

Beds changing and vacuuming are the only tasks for today followed by a do as I please afternoon.
