Most disliked words of phrases

Interviewers who say “I can’t wait!” when told of upcoming book/film/album/tour. Chief offenders are Alison Hammond, Alex Jones, Claudia Winkleman. Claudia loves to say, “I literally can’t wait!” Er, yes, you literally can!

"Absolutely" - does nobody ever say just plain "yes" any more?

And "sicth" for "sixth".

Yes, "passed" instead of died. So coy and meaningless.

And "bleeeeessss" said in that awful whiney voice that people use....

"Impacted". I'm sorry, I know that it is now accepted English usage but I just don't like it.

Oh and ‘fell pregnant’!

And oh God how I hate being called ‘Hon’

Another irritation is people commenting on social media about a matter on which they hold strong views, and insist that it's because...

"I was always brought up to believe that...".

Or - "my mother always taught me that..."

Neither of which circumstance necessarily makes the opinion or view any more valid than one which a poster may have decided for themselves.

I also agree with the passed/ angel wings/ passed away - they are dead. Plus the rainbow bridge rubbish that they say about pets.

Yourself/myself used incorrectly. As Hicaz46 says, me or you. It really puts me off people when they ask me to ‘ring myself’.

Un-alived. Is just another way of saying dead. Its all to do with what "triggers" peoples mental health. I'm sorry but just changing a word is not going to make that much difference it still means the same.

Another favourite pet hate used by elderly women is "She had it all taken away'" usually followed by a knowing look.

My grandparents would always speak in hushed tones about the big operation Grandma had years ago. As a young adult, l realised she had had a hysterectomy, yet still the hushed tones continued. She also referred to underwear as unmentionables.

On MN, they will often say use your words. I find this one incredibly patronising.

You Guys, when we are all female in a group.

Like! at the end of a sentence, my GD does it all the time.
(Some) simpering weather people, usually women. "Hope you have had a lovely (or will have) a lovely weekend", then proceed to tell us Storm ??? is on its way.

'Only'. Used when writing of vast sums for very little value.

'Up to 50% off'. As in when an item is discounted by 10%.

'Lost'. When someone has died. How very careless.

'Uni'. People cannot be bothered to say the whole (oh so long...) word.

At the of the day, I’m sat here, with four fun babies whilst the husband is off out seeing his old Mum. Later, of an afternoon , we will be watching some awesome progs on the tellybox staring some absolute legends.
