Good Morning Sunday 22 October 2023

Been a fantastic autumn day in N Norfolk. Stayed in bed reading as last night I prepared a lovely piece of brisket and put it in oven on timer. Been reading Melvyn Bragg’s memoir of growing up in Wigton, Cumbria. A good read.

Got up about 11 and did all the veg, defrosted a dessert and had 5 for lunch.

My husband and I then went to the Church where my parents are buried. We replaced my Dad’s memorial bench which was 17 years old with a lovely new one made from recycled plastic but looks like wood. Did that the other day so today went and put a new brass plaque on for Mum and Dad. It looks lovely, is vandal proof, secured in concrete and I will not have to keep sanding it down and treating. Just wipe with a damp cloth.

Thanks Kalu - it was just so lovely to see the back of that storm! And it's a glorious day today - washing out! Just so sorry for the poor souls just a few miles away where rivers have broken their banks.

Taichinan, thank you. Hopefully if we can get to Edinburgh we can find a hotel to stay there. Plenty to do and lots of shops there 😀

grandmachrissy there have been no trains North of Edinburgh up to now - I should check re tomorrow before you travel, but I would assume Edinburgh to Dundee at least should be ok. I can see the main Edinburgh-Aberdeen line from here and I haven't noticed any activity yet 🤞

Good morning all from Glasgow. At last, the sun is shining on a calm and dry day, 0 precipitation of rain.

I am cheered up knowing I can spend some time pottering in the garden at a time the thought of one more day being stuck indoors, I was beginning to feel a bit stir crazy.

My heart goes out to those of you bravely struggling alone, feelings I can only imagine and that in itself is unbearable.

Best wishes to all for a good day and kind thoughts to those struggling with worries and sorrow.

A pleasant afternoon yesterday with my friend around the Bonded Warehouse where they had a canal open weekend. The sun actually shone for a while. MrJ arrived home from Bristol around 7pm after helping his DD with house move and jobs like assembling the bed and some painting of skirting boards.

This afternoon we are off to Birmingham for a concert, and we will stay over in a Hotel, so back Monday sometime.

Off to gym now, before a brunch of bacon and eggs.

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞Northampton, set to be fine all day. Slept in till 9am this morning and just finished a cup of tea and biscuit. Scrambled eggs for brunch, and then get ready for a cinema outing. Going to see Maggie Smith in 'The Miracle Club'. Saw the trailer last week, and it looked rather good.

Disappointing rugby results yesterday, my team narrowly lost at home, and England lost by 1 point in the world Cup. But well done to our boys who controlled most of the game.
I absolutely froze during yesterday's afternoon home match, and was glad to get home to a warming hotpot - and three portions left to go in the freezer. Will definitely have thermals and winter parka on for our next home match.

Must stir myself, do my eggs and then get ready to go out.
There's a good film on BBC2 this afternoon, Oscar Wilde's 'An Ideal Husband', so have set it to be recorded.

I had a lazy laid back day yesterday. I’m feeling much better, hernia and GERD are behaving and I’m doing good with the balance exercises. Today will be much the same, with added laundry. The dehumidifier is doing a great job. I’m up, showered and wearing John Lewis cashmere ‘lounging pyjamas’ so I’m ready for a lazy Sunday

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where the sky is blue and the sun has got its hat on. We have no plans. Himself is resting up after the Covid & ‘flu jabs he had on Friday.

I seem to have developed rosacea for the first time in my life. I think it’s stress related as I’m shedding hair too every time I wash it. I’m a pretty sight, not. Never mind, I rarely go anywhere these days - good job I’m not vain. In the big sea of life these are small concerns.

DD has had no power for days up north but is coping somehow.
My Helpers are staying on a couple more days as their buses were cancelled.

I'm going on a woodland walk today with my Gaelic teacher who'll teach us the names of the trees in Gaelic.

Good morning from a dry, bright but chilly Co Durham.
Hope the sun stays out to dry the washing that needs doing so I can go off to Scotland tomorrow knowing there will be none waiting when I get home. Hopefully the trains will be running well tomorrow and that we will be able to get from Edinburgh to Dundee.
Hope everyone has a good day especially those with health worries or are feeling sad.

Thunderous rain here what sounded like all night and although it’s dry at the moment the forecast is for more today.

Sunshine here today, vigil mass last night, I am looking forward to relaxing and perhaps achieving something on my long list of things ‘I will do when I have time’!

Two of my DDs are running in the Valencia half marathon this morning, they have been doing a series of six, I think there’s one left to go. This time, it being the October school break their families have gone too and I think they are all loving the beautiful city although of course the wee ones just want the beach which was yesterday’s priority. The adults are envious of the size and freshness of the fruit and vegetables in the market.

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest coast. I so enjoyed a performance of Swan Lake last night at our local arts centre. A touring company and a lovely traditional production with beautiful costumes and sets.
About to put some washing out, fingers crossed for no rain and then off again to city hospital for a ct scan for hernia. Can’t eat after ten so will have something now.
DD moved into her new flat in the south and all went well but tiring as she is working on long haul BA as flight manager. She and my sister come here next week and I’m really looking forward to it. DS back now from New York with his band, but no word, as usual. I have my list of jobs for him when he does turn up…

Good morning from Durham. We’ve had a frost overnight. It turned out sunny yesterday, so washing dried and leaves raked.
DD2 arrived with DGS2 - he’s a delight, but the ground floor was wrecked by the time he went home. I had an early night, woke for the loo at 2.45 and that was it - awake since.
DGS1 has his first wobbly tooth, so he slept sitting up, in case he swallows it - awaiting news!
Looks like another lovely day on the cards, so more washing to dry outside and plenty of ironing later.
More leaves to take - annoying, as it’s not my tree.

After the storm! These photos were taken at around 5pm yesterday - I couldn't believe my eyes when I turned round from taking the photo of the sunset and saw the rainbow! I hope those who were flooded out of their homes were able to see it as a symbol of hope.
Anyway, good morning all and it's an unbelievably beautiful one on the Angus coast!
Yesterday, although we didn't lose power again, I didn't achieve anything - lots of phonecalls and messages were what kept me occupied. People are so lovely with their support, aren't they.
Sorry you had a 'down' day yesterday grandmattie. You've been through so much in the past year it's only to be expected - but hard nevertheless. It must have been lovely to speak to your DS and DD though.

Good morning all from a brightening Sefton after a night of what sounded like torrential rain. I did expect the puddles to be a lot bigger this morning. The sun is shining, there is blue sky so hoping for a dry day even if it is soggy underfoot.
A quiet day of reading the papers/good book/loafing around yesterday. Highlight of the day was a short walk to the local travel agents where we booked a cruise to the Norwegian fjords for 2025. This will be a first for us so it is for just 5 nights on a smallish ship...dipping our toes in the water!
Off to a local NT place this morning where we will meet the family & (hopefully) enjoy a Scarecrow Trail/Festival. I will find out if my recently purchased walking shoes really are waterproof. Then we will all go to a, new to us, nearby pub for a roast lunch. DS1 will then have to dash off to an afternoon rehearsal. His amateur musical theatre group will be performing The Wizard of Oz in November.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I just get overwhelmed by misery every so often, then rally enough to spend the next month with a big smile and “not a care in the world” face.

4 years “further down the line” than you , I’m afraid I can offer no assurances that it doesn’t still happen as others will I am sure attest. But you pick yourself up, don’t you and put one foot in front of the other again
Ginny I know that post-operatic “dip” - you have probably overdone things as you seem to have made an amazing recovery. Perhaps your body is just saying “Hang on a minute- ease up!”
I am driving over to Norfolk today for lunch with D2 and family- yes it’s a long way but I was feeling very lonely yesterday and if you want things to change, you have to be prepared to change them don’t you?
