Bijou - I agree with everyone at what a wonderful gift your son made and presented to you. I must have taken a lot of work to find a lifetime of pictures.

I never have my photograph taken, I just don't like what I see. The only photographs of my late husband and myself are our wedding photograph and one taken on Capri many moons ago.

My sister relishes taking photos and videos of everyone even when she knows they hate it. What makes it worse is she hates being in any photos herself and avoids it like the plague but passively makes fun of others in the photos. My sister has an heart of gold and I would never dream of hurting or embarrassing her by saying this to her face but since the advent of phone cameras a avoid certain situations a lot more which is sad.

Yesterday I was showing my nearly 3 granddaughter how to take photos with a mobile.

Later on she snuggled up to me and stuck her hand up my jumper. "Granny, do you have a bottom? Can I see it? "

My DM was terrified of the camera. There's a frightened looking photo of her aged 2.
She associated the photographer with the doctor or someone of whom she was scared.

I have in front of me a photograph taken of me holding a much loved doll when I was about 2. It was taken in wartime to send to my DF in India.

On the back my DM has written This is a photo of Dolly. It is not a photo of M0nica Clearly my phobia about having my photograph taken stretches bck deep into my infancy. I was born photophobic.

Bazza I have always thought Kate Moss was rather plain with nobbly knees and I find her face totally unmemorable. I have often puzzled myself trying to work out what it is other people, especially those in the modelling world, find so remarkable about her, other than her sheer ordinariness.

I used to look awful, I had hair cut short for work and never photographed well, now with much longer hair, a full mane that frames my face I look much better.
So it was all my own fault

I don’t like getting my photo taken either. I think it stems from when I was little and my father who was a keen photographer took ages to actually press the button to take it.

That’s how my DH is! He takes so long that my planned face just drops by the time he presses the button. Still, the camera never lies unfortunately.

It's interesting. So if we are on a self enhancing project we should get someone to take loads of photos and go from that.
Then I think do I really care? Perhaps I should just be comfortable and smile!

I have a theory that we don’t really know what we look like. The mirror image is out of date -our brain doesn’t provide a new one everyday but uses the one it stores! Therefore we always look younger and more attractive in the mirror. Only photos show what we really look like !

I have lost lots of weight, four stone and at Christmas 2021 I had just started and had lost a stone and was feeling pleased with myself. Then I came across a picture of me with my son and dgd after seeing Santa. My goodness I look like a barrage balloon! I don’t now, but that photo shocked me, I thought at the time I was looking better! Fools paradise.

Oh I know how you feel. I always look awful in photos where I’m meant to look at the camera. Dreadful teeth so I can’t smile, usually have my eyes closed or squinting or frowning. We’ve recently had a rare family gathering and I so wanted a picture taken with all my grandchildren, but they are all terrible pictures - the photos of my ex-husband with our grandchildren are all lovely though!

I detest having my photo taken too!
Had one taken on a cruise for a special0 birthday, and it was so good,it must have been digitally enhanced! But the photographer said it wasn’t.I’m in my late 60s and there are by my reckoning three decent photos of me my entire life!

Bijou... what a wonderful thoughtful son to think of this gift! A real labour of love which must have taken him ages to compile. An amazing record of your life, even if there are photos which aren't quite to your liking!

Mirren Spot on! Also, your description sounds much like my own except I'm 69 and slightly underweight and bony. I think we carry a decades younger picture of ourselves in our minds (at least I know I do) so no picture seems to do us justice. I cringe every time I see myself in photos hanging on my sons' walls and put my hand up, palm out, shielding my eyes when I walk by!

I didn't used to mind having my photo taken, was regarded as attractive, but my current hate is when people want to interact with video catch-ups!! Really do not look the same as when I look in the mirror - don't even recognise me!!??😱

Oh I hate photos of me. And avoid where possible. I just look odd. I also have hidden teeth. Oh to have a lovely big smile .
But I do think sometimes people are just photogenic. The camera love them.

I’d ask her to delete it. Vain, I know. Replace it with one you like. My bet is that she’d do exactly the same. Just saying…
