Chilly!

I don`t mind this, it is typical july weather, was usually wet and windy when we went camping. The ground needs it so grass can grow fast and there will be a second silage cut in august. Hay was brought in during june. Good animal feed this year

I just sat out for a bit but did bring my whirly line inside as the winds later will be much worse. I am very grateful not to be in european scorching heat. My house is warm because the sun is warm enough and outside is not cold, just grim

boheminan I am also in South Oxfordshire, I woke this morning to pouring unremitting rain and thought: 'Shall i have another winter track suit day or pull myself together and get back into summer clothes plus an extra sweater.

I opted for another duvet day in my tracksuit - and the rain has cleared, the sun is out and I clearly made the wrong decision.

They said on the weather forecast that this July will turn out ot have been colder than average and this weather pattern witll continue into August.

As we are holidaying in northern France for the last week of July into August, northern France sharing our weather, not the heatwave of the south of the country, I am glad we have a good stock of firewood there.

I was reminded yesterday of a line in one of the old Flanders and Swan songs, IIRC:

‘In July the sun is hot,
Is it shining?
No it’s not!’ 😂

Yes, St. Swithins day. My birthday and the weather is fairly typical. Many a planned outdoor celebration has ended up indoors.

We used to expect June to be warm and sunny but often what we got was The June Monsoon.

That seems to have shifted to July.
July used to be hotter with spectacular thunderstorms in the evenings.
August, warm and humid. But sometimes very wet.

Whatever the weather, it's rarely right for farmers karmalady 😀

It's sunny and breezy here, only 17C apparently. But I don't think it's going to last.

We have had days of heavy rain but not cold in our part of Scotland. Lamps on much earlier in the evening due to heavy dark skies.

The sun is presently making an effort to push through grey skies but without much success. If only the rain would stop it could be quite a pleasant mild day.

We had become acclimatised to higher temperatures when we lived in southern France but 45deg. in August was spent in the shade and trying to cool down with heavy duty fans.

We had a wet day yesterday, rather frustrating as it meant 3 year old grandson couldn't play out- house looked like a bombsite after he'd gone home!

Oh Urms your post reflected your sadness, as sometimes the weather can reflect how we are feeling, can't it?
I wish I could give you a hug along with some sunny weather- have these I wish they were real. xx

A local weatherman’s mantra is ‘What don’t we conflate? Sun and warmth!’ You can have either without the other. 😂

Lots of rain overnight, intermittent sun now. I’ve got a thin cardigan on but might divest myself of it in a moment. I’m usually a chilly soul, although I don’t like to be boiled either. :pernickety:

Friday was real cold and rainy, I wore a jumper and jeans and almost lit the woodburner.
Maybe depends on your house? Mine is Victorian era and often feels chilly.
Much better today so am back in tee shirt.

it has been raining and blowing a gale here and yesterday my neighbours huge sunshade took off and landed upside down on my balcony! i managed to lower the shade down and manhandle it back over the wall but they have it out and up again today would you believe!

Rain on and off here today, so maybe just 20 days and nights of rain and the same of sun?

We've had a very weird day. It has been raining, sunny and warm and we've had high winds that have come and gone and come and gone again. I rode this morning in the dry but nearly got blown off the horse but was very warm. Went out to pick a few bits and pieces from the garden and our poly tunnels just about managed to stay put, I've worn shorts and a tee but have had to put a fleece on and off. what's happening to our weather? OH says we are having a "Spanish plume", well then can just keep it!

That is vaguely familiar and I think the lady's name is grandmaMattie. She has recently moved to a home in Bristol and you would have picked up the story on Mick's thread. I hope I am correct.

Thunder, lightning, torrential rain and hailstones in Newcastle today.
I don’t think gM would describe her new abode as a home! She has downsized from Kent to a flat in Bristol to be near family.

High winds and rain lashing against the windows. My family are away running an outdoor orchestral proms concert (it's their business) - the wind there is 44mph. I hope their tent does not vanish over the horizon!

It's very windy here but has been quite sunny with just a few showers.

Please forgive...have no idea where to place this message, as new to posting(though not to this excellent forum!)
Some weeks back, and not sure even what the topic was about (sorry) there was a post from someone who described (I think) a scenario where an elderly lady, having moved to a sheltered living facility, met and formed a friendship with a gentleman, also a resident. They seemed to hit it off from the start when the lady first came into the communal lounge at the place, much to the chagrin of of other residents (!) and a firm friendship was established. She was, apparently a no-nonsense lady distinguished by the fact that she always wore a pinafore over her clothes, not a fancy dresser! As a would-be short story writer I think this would make a lovely story, so if this person sees my post I wonder if she would reply...I could kick myself that I didn't write down the details when I saw the post (and I know this is a long shot!) Obviously, no personal details would be used in any story, if I manage to just get a few more details.

I remember that story, about an old lady who wore an apron and no make up and was no nonsense, forming a real bond with a man in a care home, it was on a thread fairly recently but can’t say which one.Will have a think.
