Holiday postcards

We used to send cards to GC when they were young and they sent us them from holidays it has all dwindled away. Sometimes you even have quite a search for cards and stamps. No stands like at the seaside years ago where you and the gang got into trouble for smirking at the suggestive ones you were not meant to understand.

You could ask for the thread to be taken down if you’re worried but apart from that, lovely painting.

ginny I have an album full of old post card, nostalgic looking through them, all the old handwriting. I always sent post cards when I went away on holiday, also when I lived abroad. My late M&D have an old suitcase full of pics and my postcards from Africa, Greece and Holland where I lived for many years. Haven't been abroad since before lockdown now and don't plan to go abroad again. I holiday in UK with my D&GC&S now.

We send to family and a few friends, but not as many as we used to. However, we do buy them to bring home, as often they are much better pictures than you can take yourself (unless you travel with a cherry-picker, of course) and anyway I collect them, so they are added to the collection.

No, not for at least 10 years ,maybe more. The post is so poor now you would be home long before it arrived anyway.

i always bring post cards home, there is two walls in my bathroom that have them on it, i cover them in clear plastic, there is one wall for the stand up and one for the sit down. i always pop one in the boxes i send to my dad through out the year with his scottish tablet and other sweets, usually glasgow ones.

We always send postcards to the grandsons, and they're still young enough to like getting them, but yes, they can be hard to find these days. Some of them look as if they've been lurking in that dark, dusty corner of the shop since the 1960s. We had some beauties to choose from in Llandudno recently though, by local artists, so maybe they're getting popular again?

We post them on day one or two, and they usually do get home before we do, wherever we are. Madeira was the exception - they took 5 or 6 weeks, then all three arrived on the same day!

I stopped sending holiday postcards years ago as they never turned up until at least three weeks after I got home again.

Now, I would certainly not send postcards as both the cards and the postage are far too dear.

On occasion I have used the TouchNote app to send postcards. You can use your own photos, write a message and it is posted by them so foreign stamps are not a problem.

For 40 years my best friend and I have sent each other the worst / tackiest postcards we can find. There have been several featuring the Royal Family but they have included "Stratford by night" which was completely black: and "Basingstoke" which was just a photo of a telephone box

My late mother insisted on postcards when we holidayed, it would be hell to pay if I had got home before the postcard arrived!
I hated having to do it, it was a week or so that I wouldn’t have her on the phone twice a day moaning at me.
So I used to send her a post card on day 1 to get it out of the way, she then decided 1 card was not enough if we were away a fortnight.
Now she’s dead we don’t send any postcards.

Like others, I used to send postcards but have stopped now, partly because it’s so difficult to find them unless you’re in a holiday ‘hot spot’.

I was in Whistler, Canada on Tuesday and bought 2 PCs, one for a friend who has Parkinsons and another for a friend who has dementia. Not much choice but found an appropiate PC of a big black bear.

We take a stamped envelope with us and use it to post a card to our autistic grandson. He loves them, the only post he receives. I guess he’ll grow out of them one day.

Funny coincidence, I was just yesterday reading an article about a woman that has been sending herself postcards from her travels since her first trip in the 70's. She stated she didn't have a camera at the time, and they were the best way to capture her travels. She then delighted in the cards when she returned home, and put them in albums.

We haven't done postcards in years. With Facebook and Instagram, we can send our 'posts' to all our friends at once, while keeping a memory on line. Although I do think the GC would like to get some mail, so maybe I will re-visit the idea.

I used to send postcards,but the postage is far too expencive,so i take photos and send them with a silly or nice message.

I got a postcard last week from Scotland, and was really quite excited!

I love choosing and sending postcards and send about five or seven, don’t mind the cost and enjoy writing them. I even send them from a day trip. I’m known as the Postcard Queen in the family. (Prefer them to a telephone call).
It’s nice too for housebound friends and relatives to receive something in the post.
