Living in the moment

After having cancer twice I try and appreciate every day even if it's a routine one.

A school friend of mine died a couple of days ago. I knew her cancer had returned, but didn’t realise quite how poorly she was.

We weren’t huge friends, but I keep thinking about her and her family.

As I contemplate another day, I realise how I should appreciate our own health, everyday routine life, and all that makes it good.

But we take it all for granted, until something happens to upskittle it all.

I too was another who missed Urmstongran posting - one of the nicest posters on GN, in my opinion. Many years ago when I first joined GN (under another name) Urmstongran was very kind to me and I never forgot it.

Sending Urmstongran and rafichgran a virtual hug. I will hold them and theirs in my prayers. Like Gundy, I am enjoying my 70s with the precious gift of time but very aware that this is a privilege.

I remind myself of this every. single. day.

My work at the hospital (taking care of the families of trauma victims/end of life…now retired) instilled in me how suddenly things can change in a single second, in a flash, not just for the patient, but for entire families.

Keeping that in perspective I’m a person full of gratitude for the life I’ve been given, cherish my family and all my friends, hug my kitty more than she probably wants, look for greatest opportunity for rest and relaxation every chance I get, enjoy my active social sphere. I’d rather travel a bit more. Will have to get passport renewed.

I really try to live for/with EACH DAY and not to think of tomorrow. I have apologised, (mentally and out loud), to the Good Lord and to ALL for any stupid comments or actions in the past which possibly hurt or offended them. I appreciate the beauty around me and am grateful for family and friends.

Once you receive a devastating diagnosis, it affects your mindset. Every moment becomes precious, to be lived as your last.

Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.

How hard it is to live in the now. We tend to always be worrying about the future or the past, this quote brings it back to us that there is only NOW the past and future exists only in our minds. Mindfulness is everything and sharing it is priceless.

The consultant who gave my husband the devastating diagnosis, responded to mr i’s question about what he could do to help himself, advised “live your best life, if that includes a large glass of red this evening, enjoy it”.

My lovely husband lived six months after that date. We lived it as well as we could. That desire to enjoy the day has stayed with me. Grief is ever present but I cherish what we had and what I have with family and friends. I try to live well and I’m so aware that life is short and could end any time

Lovely, and particularly apposite as tomorrow will be 12 months since DH died of cancer after a particularly horrible 4 months.

What a lovely thing to say Dickens. It made me fill up just thinking of you all, rooting for us. We sorely need it and prayers too if you have a faith.

I had three precious moments today. My sister dropped in for coffee, my daughter came round too and I've had two texts from my dearest friend. She texts me every morning and evening to make sure I'm OK and visits at least once a week. I count mys

A few years ago I saw a bench dedicated to a young person who had sadly passed away. it just said

"No one knows how the day will end"

It had such a profound effect on me, I often think of it.

I thought of that poem so often when I was working. Now I’m retired the time to stop and stare, to appreciate each season, is a priceless gift.
