Welbeck - had very bad experience of A&E at local hospital 2yrs ago… have pain relief -thought would be ok in couple days - just badly bruised- so after trying to get thru on phone for 2+hrs nearly gave up. Then got thru and couldn’t believe I was offered an appt within the hour- it was a blessing in disguise as had rapid heart rate which continued on and off for several hrs while in Majors at A&E. Duty Pharmacist rang me end of last wk ahe will discuss my current meds with my GP- so another layer of medical admin? But am feeling much better Thank you 🙏

My experience was very positive, too. After maybe 10 days of a nasty bug, I was hit like like an express train with pneumonia (thank goodness one side only) followed almost immediately by pleurisy, which needed a chest drain for several days.

Very nearly 3 weeks in hospital, and a total of 5 weeks of ABs.
I couldn’t fault the care, from the ambulance crew, who arrived fairly quickly, to being blue-lighted straight into the emergency dept., to the subsequent care on wards.

As a normally robust and healthy person - I rarely need to see a GP - I will confess that it all came as something of a shock.

I've been in hospital for two weeks now, very unexpectedly. The care I've received has been fantastic altho early on I thought I had been kidnapped and held hostage ! Ì was sending whats app messages to my family appealing for help.
I finally came to by recognising a doctor.

While in ICU everything was available immediately. Doctors x-rays ECG ultrasounds.I cannot praise the NHS enough.
I am hoping to go home today as I have a small party planned for Wednesday when I shall be 80.
I may have to bribe the Doctors and return on Thursday !!

i guess you were confused, having had a head injury.
your neighbours could see the situation more clearly.
how do you feel now, as your posts do seem a little muddled, unless that is usual for you.

Bea65, why didn't you go to hosp immediately after having a fall, esp as you were offered a lift.
also ringing GP 2 days later seems strange to me.
they can't really deal with trauma.
anyway, glad you are getting some attention now.

Another with a positive experience. A trainee GP, realising how unwell I was, contacted the cardiology professor, whose research I am taking part in.
I was in the room while she spoke to him.
He advised a change of medicine and asked the GP to email his secretary ASAP with my details.
Two days later at 5pm, I received a phone call from a large Glasgow teaching hospital (not my usual cardiology unit) to say that a bed had been found for me and I was to bypass A&E and come straight to the ward. My care was outstanding, with scans being done through the night.
I am forever grateful, that GP literally saved my life.

Two weeks ago our older son went to his GP as he had been feeling unwell for some time, he was asked to supply a urine sample. Within hours his GP called him and said he had been booked into hospital that day and should expect a stay of two days. The urine sample showed very high blood sugar and ketone levels. He has now been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes which is a huge shock to him and all the family, he is 57 in August. If he hadn’t been admitted to hospital so quickly he may not have survived and for this I cannot praise the NHS enough.

So now I see a post about Hating the NHS .. how offensive..how divisive
