Me too with having the socks in pairs on the line. And I HAVE to have the clock in the sitting room half an hour fast, but not the clocks in other rooms.

The weird things I doā¦confession timeš.
(111 Posts)I hope Iām not alone in having strange habits and rituals.
Please add your own quickly and donāt leave me feeling exposed and crazy!!!!
Here goes;
I pull my jaw down and make the most ridiculous face when applying mascara, I say a prayer as I put a cake in the oven, I cannot drink water from an upstairs tap, I stand in one leg when I brush my teeth, I have to sleep with a handkerchief under my pillow, cushions placed at a ājaunty angleā stress me out, they have to be square on.
There are more but I donāt want to become the completely nutty G netter!
Your turn.
I identified with so many of these "tiny" eccentricities that I have decided I am definitely "normal". Thank you Gransnetters for the reassurance.

I say āthank youā to the hole-in- the-wall on the rare occasion I take out cash.
Me, too. Also, yes to colour coordinating clothes pegs and putting socks in pairs on the washing line.
Some years ago, one of my jobs was helping with music in a special school one morning a week. There were four ladies' toilets for the staff. One day, several ladies, including me, admitted that we always chose the same cubicle and if "our" cubicle was occupied we felt slightly disconcerted, even though they were all exactly the same. Ridiculous, really. Also, in regular meetings, people always sit in the same place. Itās as if it is an unwritten rule.

I have to colour match the clothes pegs when hanging washing out.
Me too, my husband thinks Iām crazy. And when he puts the washing out and uses mismatch pegs I have to change them. š
Toilet rolls yes, clothes pegs never, but I always score through the number against a crossword clue when itās solved even though Iāve written the answer in the grid.
Love the 100 weeds idea - although I think Iād have to allocate 10 points to brambles, & maybe to dandelions depending on the time of year
I count everything, even peeling potatoes I count every piece. I have to end on an even number even if it means peeling where itās already peeled. Pictures must be correctly hung, toilet roll hung the right way too. I have a mental list of end of the day checks and if I get into bed and suspect I missed one I have to get up and make sure.
There are three of us in the house and I have to hang washing on the line according to whose garment it is. I have to answer the phone if I know who is calling, even if I have just sat down to eat. I donāt like sweet things with a savoury dish or cold food with a hot dish My daughter does nothing I do and I have to fight myself not to rehang the washing at least, because she will be cross. I am far from OCD and donāt keep a particularly tidy house unless expecting visitors but some things just have to be done rightš
On the days that I walk my dog round our village I count how many different species of wild flower are in bloom. This started in lockdown when we were not walking in other areas, and it was my way of looking forward to the summer. Each day the number of flowers increased so I knew summer was on it's way.
I also keep a spreadsheet of books I've read with a score out of 10 and a comment.
Crikey I'm sounding weird, so I won't tell you about my gardening lists. And before anyone mentions it, there is autism in my family.
I can't go to bed at night until I stare at the fire alarms and wait for the little red flash, then I know they are working. I've got three of them, so it's a darned nuisance.
When I leave a key in a door, it has to be sitting vertically, not horizontally. No idea why!
I'm no longer really a believer in God, and yet whenever anything nice happens I always feel the need to say thank you to him.
@Sueki44
I only like even numbers!
Funnily enough, I can't stand even numbers, everything has to be an odd number for me š
The volume on my T.V.s must be increased or decreased by increments of 5. Oddly, this doesn't apply to home or car stereo.
When I'm visiting someone and stand up after a long sit I apologise out loud to my cushion for making it look squashed and wrinkly. I then batter it back to full plumpness to show what a considerate guest I am. In fact I give that treatment to all cushions that need reviving wherever I come across them.
I honestly can't think of anything I do that's weird although my sister would probably not agree. I sometimes see her give me funny looks.
We had a thread recently about which way up to put cups and glasses in a cupboard. I always stand them on their bottoms but here in Germany everyone puts them with the rim on the shelf which I think is weird and unhygienic, so they probably think that my way is weird.
My kids can't understand the logic behind the way I sort things into my kitchen drawers.

Why oh why do people want to label themselves as weird and stress about it if it feel right for you go for it. What other people think is their problem so donāt think about it
My Nana had a saying āthe whole world is weird except thee and me and even thee is a little weirdā
Nobody is stressing at all Gwyllt, our weirdnesses are what make us who we are, another old saying sums it up -Thereās nowt as queer as folk.
I live alone so talk to a variety of things, also say a lot of one line prayers if doing a difficult task, canāt drink out of tap I have to stand a big jug in the fridge overnight,
I talk to plants in the house or garden to tell how well they are doing etc. I tell spiders they are lucky they are in my house as I donāt kill insects. I trap flies or wasps to put them outside rather than kill them everything has its purpose.
Yes, Gwyllt my grandma used to say that, although in her day the word queer was used rather than weird!
I don't tell people unless they are artistic /musical , but I have synaethesia .
This affects how I see the world and on a practical level how I arrange things .
I didn't realise ( even after doing an art degree ) for years until an art graduate pointed it out to me saying, "oh a fellow synesthete. "
Wikipedia explains it clearly .
I am reassured that I'm not insane nor autistic !
Cannot put tv on during the day, it depresses me and if Iām staying with people and the tv is on then, I hate it. Itās a nighttime thing to me unless a royal wedding etc.
My MIL used to drape washing around hedges and trees in the back garden when staying with me to my neighboursā amusement.
When I make a sandwich for myself, it has to be two rounds of bread cut into four pieces. Couldnāt eat it otherwise and hate bought sandwiches.
Am currently sleeping with āspacebunsā, having longish hair, I twist into a bun at each side of my head, pin and itās wavy in the morning.
I hang t shirts and tops folded over the line with the pegs under the arms so that there are no peg marks showing later. My MIL used to hang them by the bottom and they ended up with a hem that dipped down at each side.
I hang trousers by the waistband so no peg marks at the bottom of the legs.
I have different coloured pegs and each item has to have the same two coloured pegs. They don't have to coordinate with the item though.
I am very annoyed by pegs being left on the line. If my DH brings in the washing, he always leaves the pegs on the line. It drives me mad.
The tins in my kitchen cupboard always have the labels facing outwards - why wouldn't you do this. A friend though it was weird
I have quite a lot of books and I always have them aligned to the front edge of the bookshelf rather than shoved to the back of the shelf. Looks much neater. Plus the books are in size order and not iggledy piggledy.

Blossoming thank goodness, so do I. Not only that but I colour coordinate the pegs to the clothes! When I first told someone this they looked at me as if I was mad.

Relax itās a bit of funš

Thatās how I hang washing blondiescot.
Toilet rolls definitely need to hang with the end at the front. Laundry has to be hung with the smallest things in the centre of the whirligig line, pairs of socks together with matching pegs. Eyes closed when brushing teeth, horrific faces pulled while putting on mascara. Spoons and forks have to be on their sides in the cutlery drawer. If anyone else puts away cutlery I sneak behind them and re-arrange. Surely standing on one leg while teeth cleaning or kettle watching is good for balance and not odd at all? I feel perfectly normal now.
.
When it comes to hanging out the washing - tops by the bottom, bottoms by the top!
