What coronation, what king?

Well, my DD in Australia will be watching.

She isn’t impressed that your prime minister is attending, she thinks he is not a monarchist and should have sent someone else in his place who would have appreciated it more.

Herself, maybe.

It has been on the French lunchtime news pretty much every day this week. On one report we saw a (French) teacher of English working with children in the first year of secondary school, creating scrapbooks and information boards. The pupils were interviewed and all seemed very excited by it. They were learning to say God Save the King. 😀

A lot of people in the U.K. aren’t remotely interested either ( over 50% in one poll). They like having a day off and an excuse to start drinking early in the day though.

A lot of people in the uk are extremely interested and excited. Bunting is up all over the place and there are planned local events with much thought and effort into having a memorable weekend. My siblings in australia will be watching too

It's not a party you go to for a good time. Those who believe it's important think it has a religious and cultural significance. Of course Heads of Government should go, it's their duty. Poor them.

I am always interested in how these things are done. Charles and Camilla don’t have the glamour that the late queen did at her coronation. She was young and pretty, they are neither. I was 13 in 1953, and remember it in considerable detail. It will be fascinating to compare the two events and the reaction to them.

I’m not sure I am particularly bothered why some people on the other side of the world should be so unaware of the Commonwealth and its Head , ignorant of what a coronation is or so daft as to think OP was going to it.
It says more about them than about Charles or the monarchy in the UK.
Are these the same people who greeted Diana with such adulation? I wonder why. .
It reminds me of Americans who think Scotland is in England or that “Yurrup” is one country.

I'm not very interested in fact I'll be out of the country so all I'll see is what's on the news. I've not see anything about street parties locally either.

Not a single flag or bunting anywhere in my town to date. Some things in a few shop windows, but that is all

Think a lot of people are far more excited about Eurovision Song contest than the Coronation.

Where I live the flags and talk surrounding the event have been slow to get going. Suddenly all started appearing yesterday over the first Bank Holiday.

For me it isn't important but relatives overseas [Hong Kong] keep mentioning it like it is some huge event. Asked me to send a commemorative tea towel, £13.99!

Must admit going from town to town in my area, I have seen one house on a terraced street with a bit of bunting across.

Gs school is celebrating and children can dress up in red/white/blue etc but there is very little bits of items out in the shops and supermarkets. I managed to get a waving flag and a bow tie for gson but that's it.

Our village has a picnic in the park, pony rides, stalls etc. Friends in France are attending events, bbq, big screen etc, involving various nationalities.

Our small town has some decorations up and many shops have been decorated. There are several big events planned, a big picnic in the park, open air concerts and activities for children.
My cousins in New Zealand will be watching and yesterday I had a message from a cousin in Italy, asking me about the preparations and telling me that the media over there is full of coronation news.
I shall be spending the day with friends and will, no doubt sip a glass or two of champagne whilst watching the ceremony.

My late husband wasn't remotely interested in all the pomp and ceremony. He usually did some gardening, painting or sorting out his man Cave whenever a royal event was televised.

Several street parties happening around our town. We will be going to one , but if I’m honest, for me it is little to do with the coronation but I enjoy a catch up with the neighbours.

Well it wasn't Vive Le Roi!
I was actually quite surprised to hear the God word, because when I was teaching English in a French primary school the teacher wanted me to sing the National Anthem until I pointed out the G word and then she wasn't sure. 😂 (No religion in state schools here).

Several shops and offices in our little town have bunting up, the WI have done a wonderful job of knitting for the tops of posts and letter boxes etc.

The Town Council have planned several events leading up to the Coronation, the Church is showing it live on a big screen for anyone to attend, I expect some will enjoy that if they would otherwise be on their own.

I prefer to watch it on my own at home. DH will probably pop his head round for the main bits.

What an indictment of our society! To not be interested in the coronation is one thing, but to regard this as an invitation to start drinking early in the day says a lot about the values of society as a whole. I’m a republican but I shall be watching because it’s a historic event, and I may not live long enough to see the next coronation.
If there’s to be a lot of drinking, let’s hope our underpaid nurses are not watching the coronation but are hard at work ready to pick up the inevitable casualties of too much alcohol, although as money is so tight, strange that they can afford it!

There is a house locally, that always does a tableau of some sort, so there was one for the queens jubilee, funeral, Halloween, Christmas Easter etc.

Saying that there is absolutely no flags etc of any sort anywhere in our locality.

We’ve got a house like that round the corner Whitewave full display as usual, some cul de sacs locally have bunting and this is near us since last Thursday.
