I can see no point in demonstrating. I prefer practical plans to resolve situations.
What made you fall in love with comedy?
XR has annonced that they will not disrupt the public any more in the attempt to get those in charge to listen.
FRIDAY 21st April 2023
XR are requesting a gathering around the house's of Parliament,so if you were thinking of heading into London on that FRIDAY,
maybe try to find an alternative day to visit London.
I can see no point in demonstrating. I prefer practical plans to resolve situations.
If I were younger and healthier, MOnika I'd be out demonstrating.
That is true MOnika, and it is only small consolation that I will not be here for the worst effects.
How can it ever be a consolation to anyone that they will be dead before the worst effects of climate chnage affect them?
I can only presume they are single and childless or dont give a damn about what kind of world their children and grandchildren live in.
Well I do care about my descendents, so take action. Any one can march up and down and shout slogans and cause disruption, but the best measure of someone's commitment to a cause is what they are actively doing to live the life that supports their cause and what they do to help other people to do likewise.
Everybody knows about the dangers of global warming but, many, may be most, do not know what to do about it. What they need is people who can be shown to be examplars of all the small things we can do and who can work with the media to show how easy so many can be applied.
Not the bright and breezy people seen on government websites, advertising folk, who demonstrate how to insulate empty lofts, dryline a house in a weekend, and make it draft free in half an hour. We want to see people of all ages, getting help to insulate lofts full of stuff, neighbourhood groups helping each other to stop those draughts, and helping each other. An elderly lady keeping the mugs of tea and biscuits coming, while those more able draft proof her house.
Now if ER were to undertake campaigns of insulating houses in areas where people cannot afford to do it themselves then they could really do something for the cause they espouse and win public support. Currently they are like a load of vandals careering down a street damaging everything they see and justfying it by saying they are doing it in order to get the council to improve the built environment.
It is a consolation to me that I will probably be dead before the worst effects of climate change affect me. I am sorry about all the people, animals, and plants who are already suffering but there is little I can do to help in that way.
If I were younger and healthier I'd be out with Extinction Rebellion.
It bothers me not. I feel a sadness that some feel the need to fight their battles in such a way. Perhaps the engrained bitterness will hasten their own end.
Nasty?
Caleo
ExperiencedNotOld, maybe you are old enough to be dead before the worst effects of climate change affect yourself.
Oh dear, nasty post

I thought, quite nasty that, but then, most posters on GN will fit that category.

That sounds fair enough
Well I don't suppose we need to agree to disagree - we can just disagree without the agreement!
The IEA report does indeed explain where the issues could arise in meeting the demand for minerals. And it ends by saying how to overcome those issues and ensure that demand is met. We can either decide its too hard and we'll never do it, or we can just get on and do it.
I know which I prefer. I'm not agreeing to disagree, not by a long chalk.
Yes Volver, it’s a complicated debate but, arguably, minerals demand is THE core issue. There can be no ‘energy revolution’ without extracting these raw materials and the other factors you mention are secondary.
According to the linked IEA report, demand is set to at least double in the next 20 years, with an expected 50% shortfall in supply of Lithium & Cobalt within 10 years. Of course, other analyses are available but the IEA is a good summary of the broad consensus and there’s obviously a huge hill to climb!
Predicting the feasibility and cost-benefit outcomes for these levels of extraction is well-nigh impossible and I am not confident it can ever be shown to be achievable or cost-effective. You clearly believe otherwise so I guess we’ll have to “agree to disagree” on this one.
Hang on Lathyrus, you'll need a bigger spurtle.
So their aim is an oppressive government that brings in change through force rather than change by the will of the people.
It all makes sense now.
VD You’re right! 😇
They surely didn’t want people to support their aims. If they did, they’d have had big posters advertising their aims and asking for support.
THEIR OBJECTIVES ARE NOT TO GET PEOPLE TO SUPPORT THEIR AIMS.
Which is just as well as so many people are determined not to.
Oh ok.
They have managed to alienate almost half of the population and only 19% regard them in a positive light.
Not the mark of an effective organisation that can persuade people to support their aims…….

And “popular “ actually means the populace are pro something.
Isn’t that what XR want?No. 😕

Please note, copy-posting does not imply support 😂No. As in they don’t want people to be in favour of tackling climate change?
Just no. I can't argue this any more.
When people stop being rational I lose the will to live.

I clicked on the link. The survey I saw said of those polled 4% were very positive and 15% were fairly positive about XR.
Hardly carrying the Country with them are they? 4% with them and the rest of their supporters with doubts…….
And 31% didn't know how they felt and 49% were either fairly or very negative.
So no matter how you try to portray it, your assertion that they have alienated the "vast majority" of the population is not supported by the results of this survey.
