The Nation's Favourite Christmas Carols - tonight, Thursday

My very favourite is ‘O Holy Night’

Thank you ixion- that's got my name all over it.

I’m with you Gingster.

😀
Sounds lovely, doesn't it?

Thanks ixion.

Thanks. I’ll look forward to that!

"Silent Night" always brings a lump to my throat, closely followed by "O Holy Night", although I think that is quite a modern one - I don't remember it from my childhood.

I love the ancient Coventry Carol, even if the meaning is rather sad.

O Little Town of Bethlehem always makes me emotional - it's such a calm carol about what is now such a turbulent place.

Thanks for the reminder about the program ixion.

O Holy Night is not really modern - more that it has gained in popularity - it was more popular in the US than the UK originally

It was a French poem from 1843 that was set to music as a french carol in 1847 - the English version is from 1855

Can I offer this African version of "O Holy Night", I think it's wonderful and joyous.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Sky Arts programme and agreed about the Carol that won!

I like ‘It Came Upon The Midnight Clear’.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, ixion. It was a beautiful programme. I changed channels to watch, then, Vardy v Rooney...my late father would have described this as "from the sublime to the gorblimey".
